Lived Experience In Catholic Education: Research And Reflections From Sub-Saharan Africa And North America, Quentin Wodon

Journal of Global Catholicism

Global enrollment in Catholic schools more than doubled between since the 1970s with most of this growth observed in sub-Saharan Africa. This issue of the Journal of Global Catholicism is dedicated to lived experiences in Catholic schools. With articles reflecting on experiences from Burkina Faso, Ghana, and Nigeria, the emphasis is on sub-Saharan Africa as the region with the fastest growing enrollment in Catholic schools. In societies with rising religious pluralism, this article maintains that ensuring mutual respect and harmony among students from different faiths who study in Catholic schools is more important now than it was in the past.

The article is part of the work on media changes induced by digital technologies. He postulates that the offbeat editorial approaches of African pure players are part of an objective of legitimization and that the methods of digital writing integrate economic logics. The analysis of generic journalistic genres (flash, surveys, interviews), offbeat genres (satire, rapped newspaper) and digital genres (fact-checking , data journalism) shows that the fact of alternating formats results from an objective of legitimation, of a competitive game but also of capturing the audience. Présence Francophone: Revue internationale de langue et de littérature

This article examines the theoretical and practical interconnectedness that crosses fear, media and governing practices. It uses examples from African countries, especially Cameroon, to investigate the ways in which the media are instrumentalized to draw on fear of the Other in general and of opposition leaders in particular in order to support authoritarian regimes. Not only does it focus on the structural changes that lead to a more subtle media control in spite of an apparent liberalization, but it also further describes the discursive devices used to generate and perpetuate fear.

The recent political history of Cameroon has been marked by an important civil disobedience movement (operation town) which almost brought down the State. Although this period of crisis has often been analysed, it must be mentioned that such analysis has not sufficiently highlighted the fact that “the operation ghost town” was strongly reported and most times promoted by the print media notably: Challenge Hebdo, Le Messager and La Nouvelle Expression.
