The connection between Solov'ëv's philosophy of religion and Schelling's has long been recognized but is difficult to clarify for two reasons. The first is Solov'ëv's nonchalance about citing sources. The paucity of direct references to Schelling in the work of a philosopher who has been called 'the last and most outstanding Russian Schellingian' is quite astonishing. The second reason is the ambivalence toward Schelling in Russian religious philosophy.

Luis Goytisolo’S La Paradoja Del Ave Migratoria As Postmodern Allegory: A Critique Of Absolutism, Terri Carney

Luis Goytisolo’s short work of fiction, La paradoja del ave migratoria, was published in 1987 in a Post-Franco Spain and a Postmodern world. I will investigate this unusual novel as a postmodern allegory, relying on Brian McHale’s assertion that postmodern allegory challenges the “unequivocalness of traditional allegories” by problematizing the naive assumption that abstract concepts can be communicated transparently through language (1987, 141). Luis Goytisolo populates his allegory with mythical, and historical characters that hail from a dizzying array of time periods, creating a heterotopic universe in which no one context of references serves as the key to interpretation. …

The interreligious dialogue encounters have always given an important place to common prayer in their programs. Prayer-meetings are organized to celebrate feasts and other significant events in life. The Christian ashrams too have made interreligious prayer the heart of their monastic life. Several prayer-books have now appeared, with prayers collected from different religions, for interreligious prayer meetings. The splendid picture of Pope John-Paul II praying with the Dalai Lama and with other representatives of religions at the Assisi Meeting of 1986 has become a classical symbol of interreligious prayer.

Misperceptions and misrepresentations are frequently linked to complicated dynamics between those who are misperceived and those who do the misperceiving. Oftentimes such dynamics are manifestations of underlying social, political, or, in the cases described in this issue of the Hindu-Christian Studies Bulletin, religious differences. The Hindu and the Christian traditions share a long history of mutual misrepresentations and misperceptions. Many of the authors in this issue of the Bulletin may offer detailed analyses of such misperceptions as they have been described by virtuoso Hindu thinkers such as Ram Mohan Roy, Gandhi-ji, and, in more recent times, BJP activists. The "other" remains as a mystery and puzzle before one comes to know the "other" in a personal and intimate manner. especially when the "other" is the "religious" other, it is much more puzzling and mysterious. The history of the encounter between Hindus and Christians over several centuries reveals how the "puzzle" and the "mystery" of the other can at times lead to gross misperceptions of the other. My assignment for this thematic issue of the Hindu-Christian Studies Bulletin is to address Christian misperceptions of Hinduism, which I shall do by evaluating the work and legacy of William Ward of Serampore, missionary to Bengal, and author on Hinduism in the early nineteenth century. First, however, I would like to make three preliminary observations about the idea of "Christian misperception".

Recently the controversy over conversion has received new life, given a number of events which in effect resulted in a great deal of debate over the place of Christians within the State of India. Perhaps the two most recent controversial events were the gruesome murder of Rev. Staines and his two children in orissa and the visit of the Pope to India.

At the end of World War II, doctors trained in the western bio-medical tradition integrated music into their practice as a means of helping soldiers recover, both mentally and physically, from the atrocities experienced while overseas. For many, music was a solace, opening up the peaceful memories of home and family and pushing aside the war-torn landscapes. By establishing interpersonal relationships between the therapist and the patient, as well as patient-to-patient in group settings, music enabled feelings and emotions to flow freely. Au niveau universitaire, la plupart des programmes de francais offrent un cours que l'on peut classer sous l'appellation generique de "cours de conversation" ("Conversational Skills", "French for Oral Communication, etc.). Si le but de ce cours est clair: ameliorer les competences communicatives orales des apprenants, son contenu est par contre tres ouvert. Dans ce type de cours, la "conversation" prend souvent appui sur l'exploitation de documents authentiques et permet ainsi aux apprenants d'approfondir leurs connaissances culturelles. Cette bipolarite: developpement des competences de communication orale et decouverte de la culture nous semble tout a fait appropriee. On peut cependant regretter l'absence …
