AS scholars committed to explore and illuminate the varied regions of thought and practice, text and image, or prescription and custom circumscribed by the rather curious samāsa “Hindu-Christian,” we may do well to pay more thoughtful attention to ludic features of the landscape. Christology After Dominus Iesus: The Early Panikkar As A Creative Resource, Erik Ranstrom

IN a post-Dominus Iesus age, Catholic theologians are called to avoid christological proposals rooted in the context of interreligious dialogue that radically revise the meaning of both the scriptural and conciliar traditions. It is no longer possible to avoid or explain away central texts and tenets of the faith because they are inconvenient for dialogue. There is a sense that canon and creed must be embraced if theologians wish to have any impactful future in shaping interreligious dialogue in the Church. THE poetical and theological dynamics of apparent absence, which kindle the desire for the always-elusive presence of God, are shared by the Sanskrit Rāsa Līlā and the Spanish Cántico espiritual. Although these Hindu and Christian mystical works of literature are not historically or philologically related, they converse in poetical and theological terms, revealing aspects that are not so obvious when they are read alone. Vijñānabhikṣu’S Approach To The Īśvara Concept In Patañjali’S Yogasūtras, T. S. Rukmani

PATAÑJALI discusses Iśvara, the paramapuruṣa, as he calls Īśvara, in sūtras 23-29 of the first pāda (chapter) called the samādhipāda of the Yogasūtras (YS). The description of Iśvara in these sūtras makes it difficult to classify Īśvara in a purely theistic mode. In these seven sūtras one can see shades of theism as well as non-theistic ideas. Since I am dealing with Vijñānabhikṣu’s take on Īśvara in Patañjali’s YS I shall first concentrate on the first two sūtras i.e I. 23 and 24 dealing with Iśvara before examining the others in the first and second pādas (chapters) where we get …

FOR over three thousand years, people have attached divergent meanings and functions to yoga. Its history has been characterized by moments of continuity, but also by divergence and change. This applies as much to precolonial yoga systems as to modern ones. All of this evidences yoga’s malleability (literally, the capacity to be bent into new shapes without breaking) in the hands of human beings.

As dialectical theology rose to prominence in the years following World War I, the new theologians sought to distance themselves from liberalism in a number of ways, an important one being a rejection of Schleiermacher’s methods and conclusions. In reading the history of Weimar-era theology as it has been written in the twentieth century one would be forgiven for assuming that Schleiermacher found no defenders during this time, as liberal theology quietly faded into the twilight. FIVE YEARS BEFORE the publication of his novel Castorp, the Gdansk writer Pawel Huelle published a short piece of the same title in the essay collection Inne historie (1999), the title of which-translated as either "other stories" or "other histories"-consciously plays with the difficulty of writing a history of Gdansk, a theme to which almost all of the short pieces in this collection somehow return. The essay tells the story of a literary correspondence between a Lvov pastor and the writer Thomas Mann, in which Mann voices regret over some unelaborated ideas and abandoned storylines in The Magic Mountain. …
