The World In Chaos: A Paragon For Comedic Plays, Lisa Akintilo '11
2010 Spring Semester
When Samuel Beckett wrote his tragicomedy Waiting for Godot in France, the French nation was in turmoil due to the destructiveness of World War II. One generation later, an American named Tom Stoppard also wrote a play, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, during a time of crisis; the United States was in utter confusion because of the Vietnam War. Both of these plays, as a result of the tumultuous times in which they were created, demonstrated how confusion in one’s surroundings can cause a loss of certainty and identity.

This Is Sportscenter: Performance And Performativity In Sports Broadcasting And Punditry, Anthony C. Gunn
Theses and Dissertations
Within the discipline of Performance Studies there is a debate about what is included within the ontology of “performance.” Peggy Phelan suggests that performance can only be experienced in the here and now, and any recording of a performance makes it “something other than performance.” Phillip Auslander argues the exact opposite, claiming that mediatized performance is not only valid, but also preferable to the live. This thesis is about performance in sports broadcasting, and states that performance, like sport, can be valid in both live and mediatized forms. The thesis also details how sports broadcasters perform and how their performance …

When The Smoke From The Battle Has Cleared, T. Fulton Burns
When The Smoke From The Battle Has Cleared, T. Fulton Burns
Theatre Faculty Research
I can recall the time that followed my first national workshop. All of the excitement of new friends and new skills still went through me like a child on Christmas morning considering all of the possibilities of fun with my new toys. I thoroughly enjoyed having my college friends ask me to show them what I had learned. Eventually I was approached by a former professor to choreograph the fights for a production of Hamlet at my undergraduate program. With excitement and great pride I happily accepted.

Simon Murray (Director of Theatre at Dartington College of Arts) and John Keefe (Senior lecturer at the London Metropolitan University Undergraduate Centre) offer the theatre world two movement analysis texts. These well written books, which focus on techniques from the Western world of physical theatre, would serve graduate level or highly focused classes in movement pedagogy or practice. With their identical six-chapter breakdowns (“Genesis, Contexts, Namings”; “Roots: Routes”; “Contemporary Practices”; “Preparation and Training”; “Physicality and the Word”; “Bodies and Cultures”), the books may be used in relation to one another or stand alone as individual texts.

Struktur Simbolik Tari Topeng Patih Pada Dramatari Wayang Topeng Malang Di Dusun Kedungmonggo, Soerjo Wido Mintarto

Dramatari Wayang Topeng Malang reflects the life style of the Malangese. They are believed to have historical relevance with the development Malang s oldest culture which was under the reign of Kanjuruhan Kingdom around 7th century. Topeng Patih dance, the opening dance of the traditional theatre performance are closely related to the pattern of the show related to the space, time, and content. So the symbolic structuralist theoretical approach would be the chosen strategy to understand the symbolic internal meanings.
