Love On - The Life Of A Suicide Survivor: A Performance Autoethnographic Study, Patricia R. Wheeler
Love On - The Life Of A Suicide Survivor: A Performance Autoethnographic Study, Patricia R. Wheeler
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Suicide touches the lives of millions of people each year in this country alone, yet conversations about suicide loss and survival after a loss remain taboo and often do not happen. The story I performed for this performance autoethnographic study centers on my life as a survivor of suicide. It provides a starting point for dialog regarding trauma, grief, and suicide loss. The narrative was constructed directly following the sudden death of my father, which had a direct effect on my ability to produce artistic work. The development, staging and performance of the story were altered to account for the …

Kimmo Hakola's Diamond Street And Loco: A Performance Guide, Erin Elizabeth Vander Wyst
Kimmo Hakola's Diamond Street And Loco: A Performance Guide, Erin Elizabeth Vander Wyst
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
Kimmo Hakola (b.1958) has emerged in the past two decades as one of Finland’s leading contemporary composers. His numerous clarinet and bass clarinet works include a clarinet concerto, five chamber works with various instrumentations, a work for solo clarinet, a work for solo bass clarinet, and a work for solo clarinet and pedal bass drum (the clarinetist performs both the clarinet and bass drum parts). While this relatively large output featuring the clarinet family may be a result of Hakola’s personal interests, it may also be the result of a friendship with virtuoso clarinetist Kari Kriikku (b. 1960). This document …
Shards And Cycles: Lighting Design For "The Chairs" By Eugene Ionesco, Jacob Hofer
Shards And Cycles: Lighting Design For "The Chairs" By Eugene Ionesco, Jacob Hofer
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This thesis will describe the historical context, analysis, design, and implementation of the lighting design for the University of Arkansas’s production of Eugene Ionesco’s "The Chairs". Special time will be taken to explain the unique challenges faced by this production both in early design meetings as well as during the implementation of the design. This document will tackle the question: How does the idea of triboluminescence help inform the design of shattered, crystal shafts of light that illuminate and highlight cyclical world of "The Chairs"?
Included in this thesis are all essential lighting design documents including: the light plot, paper …

Taylor Theatre Playbills
Taylor Theatre presents William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Performed April 29-30 and May 6-7, 2016 at the Mitchell Theatre. Mischief meets merriment in this fresh re-imagining of Shakespeare's most popular romantic comedy.

Chasing Eliza: Shifting And Static Women In Elizabeth Craven's The Miniature Picture, Heather A. Ladd
ABO: Interactive Journal for Women in the Arts, 1640–1830
Georgian actress and author Mary Robinson famously wore a miniature portrait of her royal lover, the Prince of Wales, whom she captivated in the Shakespearean breaches role of Perdita. Intriguingly, Robinson’s final stage appearance was as the cross-dressing heroine of The Miniature Picture (1781), a three-act comedy penned by writer and socialite Lady Elizabeth Craven, later Baroness Craven and Margravine of Brandenburg-Ansbach. The play’s action, initiated by the threat of exposure, is driven by Eliza Camply, who aims to retrieve her miniature from the man who left her. Craven, like the actress playing her enterprising protagonist Eliza Camply, was no …

I recently ignored the cardinal rule of parenthood and kept my 2-year-old, Huck, awake during his normal naptime. I knew it was risky, but then, so is suggesting he wear a shirt that isn’t his favorite color orange, so I was willing to take my chances.

It premiered on April 2, 2016 at the Bowling Green Performing Arts Center in collaboration with choreographer Sophia Schmitz and conductor Robert Ragoonanan. Other elements of the project included set design, costuming, lighting, audio and video recording, and marketing. My Mind Made No Sound: The Downward Spiral Of Scholars In One Act, Jacob Lorrin Buechler
My Mind Made No Sound: The Downward Spiral Of Scholars In One Act, Jacob Lorrin Buechler
Student Theses and Dissertations
This is a one-act play on the world of academia. Set in a city during an academic conference, inside a bar, the characters are representations of my real life involvement in higher education. Told in a creative nonfiction style, using characters and stories that I have personally faced, this play brings to life the conflicts and tragedies inherent in our higher education process. Through the seven different characters, each with their own arrogance and prejudices, the play reaches into the ethos of what it means to be a scholar, what events lead to our toleration of what education means, and …
Movement In The Classroom To Practice Sight Words, Galina Vander Meer
Movement In The Classroom To Practice Sight Words, Galina Vander Meer
Honors Theses
This project encompassed the development and implementation of a unit plan that proved beneficial for first grade students in learning and practicing their sight words. Sight words are words that students are expected to read and write by the end of the school year. Every student learns differently, and using movement to enhance students’ learning can give kinesthetic learners a chance to grow. There were four lessons in the unit plan that incorporated different modes of learning, including movement and technology, and correlated to the first grade curriculum. By the end of the four lessons, the students collaboratively created a …
