A Midsummer Night’S Dream

Taylor Theatre Playbills

The playbill for Taylor University’s Spring 1986 performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare.

In just one night, four magical stories are cleverly woven together: the marriage of the Athenian duke to the Amazon queen; the battle of the king and queen of the fairies; the follies of four lovers in a forest; and the hilarious antics of amateur actors staging a play. Enter a vibrant world where fairies fly overhead, a donkey bursts into song, and love potion makes your perspective turn on a dime. Creative Movement For Everyone, Robbie Scoggins Jan 1986

Creative Movement For Everyone, Robbie Scoggins

Theses

Robbie Scoggins’ thesis explores the transformative potential of creative movement and inclusive dance education. Centered on her culminating project, Bodies in Motion, the work documents the process of conceptualizing, choreographing, rehearsing, and staging four unique dance compositions performed by beginning students. These pieces—ranging from rhythmic rounds to satirical mimes and collaborative visual works—served not only as performance but as a pedagogical tool. Scoggins reflects on her evolving philosophy that dance should be a democratic art form, open to all regardless of technical training or physical ideal. Drawing from historical precedents like Isadora Duncan and educators like Barbara Mettler, she …

One Actor/Director Among Millions, Jannell L. Robinson

Theses

Jannell L. Robinson’s thesis explores the vital role of communication in theatre, both in acting and directing. The study highlights how directors must effectively convey their artistic vision to actors, designers, and stage managers to ensure a cohesive production. Through her experiences as an actress in Harold Pinter’s The Lover and Mark Medoff’s Healure, Robinson analyzes character development using the Stanislavski method, emphasizing emotional depth and psychological realism. She details her challenges and discoveries in portraying complex female roles, including the necessity of improvisation, physical commitment, and character backstory creation.

Robinson also examines her directorial process in staging A …

Ibsen's Stagecraft: The Symbolic Setting, Julie Lorraine Thompson Jan 1986

Ibsen's Stagecraft: The Symbolic Setting, Julie Lorraine Thompson

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Henrik Ibsen's critics have long acknowledged his mastery of the stage, that is, his use of the physical and off-stage settings, architectural details, props, and space as symbol. However, study of Ibsen's symbolic settings has been limited to one play or to aspects of his stagecraft in general terms. Peter Tenant's Ibsen's Dramatic Technique discusses the settings and stage directions of his major plays as they relate to plot and theme. In Patterns of Ibsen's Middle Plays, Richard Hornby studies the settings and scenic background only for An Enemy of the People. Edward Beyer in Ibsen's The Man And His …
