The purpose of our discussion, however, is not so much to reveal the weak features of behaviorism as it is to place it in juxtaposition with Christianity and point out the incongruities. We have seen that the philosophical basis upon which the superstructure of behaviorism has been raised is a problem that has not bothered many of the behaviorists. Most of them have chosen to remain indifferent to this groundwork - apparently because it is not objective enough for them. But whether it be objective or subjective, Christianity has a very definite philosophical basis and our comparison of the two …

The ancient people of God, too, know of a golden age, but this age is not to be found in the hoary past. All the thoughts of the people, from the pure biblical ideas to the sensuous apocalyptic and rabbinical hopes, point to the future - all are centered in the Messianic idea some form or other. How this idea originated, how the details were gradually filled in to form a complete picture, which which was then completely fulfilled by the advent of Christ and his Kingdom, is to be the purpose of the two introductory chapters. First a brief word in regard to the word resurrection. Whenever we shall speak of the resurrection, we shall always mean the resurrection of the body. Moreover we shall limit ourselves in this discussion to the resurrection unto life eternal, because this is the resurrection that is of such vital concern to us and to all Christians. This resurrection, not that of the wicked, was the one concerning which Paul desired to instruct the Corinthians. Therefore he speaks of the resurrection unto life eternal almost exclusively when treating the doctrine of the resurrection in his First Epistle to the Corinthians. …
