The teaching of Jesus on limitless forgiveness is a difficult one with which to reckon, especially when an offense is repeated again and again (recidivism}, sometimes by the same offender. This article finds in the gospel of Matthew (Matt. 18:15-17} and Paul's letters to the Corinthians (I Cor 5:2-11 and II Cor 2:5-8} a model of forgiveness that is assertive, confrontative and direct in style, pastoral in application and reconciling in spirit.

This article promotes ecumenical discussion of the eclesiological question: what structures are required to preserve the values of freedom and accountability in matters of faith? it is the author's contention that freedom and accountability are essential elements in the experience of Christian faith but are not easily reconciled; indeed, in the history of the churches, one element has often been sacrificed to the other. This essay expands upon the existentialist analysis of contemporary American sexual mores presented in Rollo May's Love and Will (1969), specifically the section of that work entitled "Contraceptives and the tragic". The author accepts May's analysis of the ambiguous psychological effects of artificial contraception--an increase in ambivalence and anxiety as well as freedom and choice--and argues that the massive popular response of Catholics to artificial contraception is based upon a failure to recognize the subtly ambiguous character of artificial contraception. LDS discourse commonly uses the term mysteries to refer to truths that we don’t know or shouldn’t worry about. But the scriptures—and particularly the Book of Mormon—speak of the mysteries very positively, as something we should seek to know. The scriptural terminology appears to refer to the things of God that the faithful come to know—things that nonbelievers never understand.
