Leisure And Reading, Pauline Stemmler
Leisure And Reading, Pauline Stemmler
Bachelors’ Theses
Our pleasures are no longer those of our forefathers. With the advent of the motor car, the plane, the radio, and innumerable other modern inventions, life for us has taken on a new aspect. Ours is no longer a day of endless toil and struggle. The hardships of pioneer days have come to an end. Ours is a modern civilization, where machinery and manifold labor-saving devices have made possible shorter working hours and a greater margin for leisure, thus leaving time for play and for the pursuits of individual interests. The increased leisure may be an important contribution to a …

Sensism, George Geldreich
Sensism, George Geldreich
Bachelors’ Theses
The introduction of sensistic notions in the field of philosophy marks a distinct point of departure in the history of philosophic speculation. Although it is true that efforts had been made to establish empirical systems before the seventeenth century, yet it was not until this time that certain men succeeded in setting forth complete philosophic systems based on principles which were fundamentally sensistic.

Devices In Spelling, Corinne H. Standish
Devices In Spelling, Corinne H. Standish
Bachelors’ Theses
To a large majority of teachers, spelling is a hopeless subject. Frank M. McMurry says in the introduction of "The Teaching of Spelling" by Henry Suzzallo; "It seems to lack the possibility of such rich subject matter as makes reading and history attractive; and to want that organization of its facts that distinguishes every worthy branch of knowledge, since the units that compose it are not thoughts, but merely individual words. In consequence, it is recognized as almost entirely a mechanical study, providing little skill from the teacher, and depending mainly on mere repetition or brute endurance for mastery."
Theories Of Knowledge, Gene H. Stemper
Theories Of Knowledge, Gene H. Stemper
Bachelors’ Theses
This Thesis is intended as a statement of some of the leading Scholastic Theories of Knowledge both old and new with a short summary of their respective strong points and weaknesses. It is intended not as an exhaustive study of the entire field but only as a short outline of selected theories. The Rationality Of Belief, Thos. G. Egan
The Rationality Of Belief, Thos. G. Egan
Bachelors’ Theses
In a philosophical discussion it is necessary, before any hope of mutual understanding can be attained, to make clear the meanings in which terms are to be used. this, I believe, is especially true in any investigation concerning the mind. The modern controversies about knowledge, how it is acquired, and whether or not knowledge is really attainable are too numerous to describe. Materialistic systems of philosophy all base their arguments on the central thesis that the mind is the brain and that there is no necessity of supposing a spiritual entity. An inspection of our concepts demonstrates the folly of …
The Relation Of Faith And Reason In The Philosophy Of St. Thomas Aquinas, Leo A. Fendryk
The Relation Of Faith And Reason In The Philosophy Of St. Thomas Aquinas, Leo A. Fendryk
Bachelors’ Theses
The history of philosophy is a story of few problems and many solutions. From Thales of Miletus to Jacques Maritain and Christopher Dawson, man has sought to answer for questions concerning the things of his experience. Those questions are the what, the whence, the why, and the who. Man has answered these questions in a variety of ways, and in his answers he has left behind him his philosophic systems for the ages to interpret.
A Translation Of St. Augustine's Dissertation On The Happy Life, Max L. Adamski
A Translation Of St. Augustine's Dissertation On The Happy Life, Max L. Adamski
Bachelors’ Theses
It is the tendency of the present generation to be constantly striving for happiness and it would profit many to study the views of one, who for more than thirty years was striving in vain to find a perfectly satisfying happiness. The views of Augustine on a happy life after his conversion should be carefully analyzed by all who desire to reach their ultimate end in life -- the possession of God. In submitting a translation of this work of the Father of the est it has been the author's purpose to present the views of this interesting character on …

Tests - Old And New, Edna Miriam Weiscoff
Bachelors’ Theses
This thesis concerns itself with a comparison of traditional or subjective tests and new type or objective tests. There are various phases of teaching that must be considered in dealing with this subject of tests. The advantages of both types should be considered. I shall give types of objective examinations and list advantages and disadvantages of each. Such concepts as validity, reliability, objectivity, sampling etc. shall be …
