The object of this thesis is to show, by means of the comparisons of the arguments of St. Thomas Aquinas and of Aristotle, as regards the existence of God, what manner of God exists. This I shall endeavor to do by stating the arguments of Aristotle and of St. Thomas Aquinas, and by presenting commentaries upon these theories. To substantiate their points, I shall give views regarding their theories, as expressed by other philosophers throughout the various ages.

A brief survey of Elizabethan theology is an Immense aid in developing an appreciation of the ghost scenes in Shakespeare's plays. If we can trace the important steps by which the man-animal has become man and has developed thought patterns for the discovery of the truth he needs to guide his action and to solve his problems, we shall in so doing indicate the essential nature of a phylogenetic psycho-logic of importance for a fundamental science of education, i.e. a science of the evolution of human intelligence.

It was a period of liberal thought on religion and attacks on revelation were discussed in the tavern, coffee¬ house and drawing room of the day. Men of letters and men high in religious circles gave their views in a liberal way. A certain group turned to Deistic beliefs. They were not fanatics, opposed to Christianity, but liked the conceit of challenging their neo-philosophic views against revelation.
