RISD press was a student newspaper published weekly in the early 1970s, a self-described attempt at consolidating all the information outlets of the school, including the previous student newspapers, Montage. The March 16, 1973 issue had articles on a visit to the Providence College student activities director, Father McKeon, and a talk by Franics Rogers of Hallmark Cards on how to prepare a portfolio. There was a short article mentioning that the BFA in Teacher Education is being phased out for the 1973-1974 school year at RISD. Comics, drawings, a recipe and events for RISD students were also mentioned.

There was an open letter about the RISD student board and a brief article about the Campus Assistance Center. Also more information about COLAB 4 was included. A recipe, comics, poems, a short story,photos and events for RISD students were included.

This will involve an analysis of his conception of freedom, an analysis which involves a grasp of his philosophy as a whole. Nietzsche never wrote a systematic educational philosophy. This thesis presents a general theoretical framework and descriptive methodology for helping students develop the capacity and confidence to educated themselves by learning to trust their senses, to develop the ability to explore, to synthesize, to think about their own nature and the meaning of life and the relation between their world and the world. The framework could be termed "a philosophy of expression" which has as its basic tenet the belief that knowledge gained from experience and reflection is only fully realized when expressed.

The pragmatic movement has often been misunderstood; the most frequent misconceptions, which assimilated the philosophies of Peirce and James in particular to forms of positivism, reductionism, or crude voluntarism seem to be on the wane. Peirce's scholastic realism, his doctrine of signs, and his conception of truth as the unique and destined goal of inquiry now tend to receive the attention that was formerly reserved for his empiricism and pragmatism. There was a contest for changing the name of the students newspaper and a students won for the name change to Expose. There was an article about the recent Figure Sculpture exhibit at the RISD Museum. Also there was another article about the changes to the professional exam for students seeking architectural licenses at some New England colleges, including RISD. In this paper I provide an account of Kant's Critique of Pure Reason approach to how humans automatically shape the interpretation of their sense experiences in order to create a picture of themselves enduring in and interacting with an objective world. I contrast Kant's view with those of W.V. O.Quine, who also talks about how we create theories about what we are sensing. I claim that although Quine and Kant are both talking about making sense of our "experiences", they actually have different conceptions of "experience". The primary point of the paper is to elucidate Kant's views on these matters.

Since Aristotle's time a close connection has been recognized between metaphor and cognition. The connection can be explained if the process of understanding is metaphorical. Such an explanation involves self-reference in two ways. First, the explanation will necessarily apply to itself. Second, metaphor, because it creates significance, must include directions for its own interpretation. Self-reference has been held to result in paradox or nonsense.

Self-referential inconsistency is a problem only if meaning is determinate. Theories of determinate meaning arc based on object-reference, or propositional equivalence. Both bases are shown to be unsatisfactory, and a non-referential theory of meaning based on …
