Cheating From A Distance: An Examination Of Academic Dishonesty Among University Students, Timothy K. Daty

Academic dishonesty among college students has been an enduring issue within higher education. While prior research has explored this issue, the recent global pandemic has shifted collegiate demographics dramatically, particularly within online courses. As a result, previous findings may prove less applicable, warranting new research into student cheating within this current educational landscape. Given these new enrollment trends, this study investigated intentions to cheat in traditional and online class settings, and for criminal justice and non-criminal justice majors. Utilizing principles of rational choice theory, other factors related to academic misconduct also were explored.

This past week, from Oct.10–16, was International OCD Awareness Week—a week I never thought would have any significance for me. However, after beginning college, my struggle with mental health and anxiety heightened, and I sought out resources to help me cope with all the things I was feeling. Through therapy and a lot of support I realized what I had been struggling with my whole life, but that I was never able to understand, was obsessive-compulsive disorder or OCD.

A committee of representatives from several universities in the U.S. East Coast, called the Intercollegiate Commission on Academic Costume, standardized the American system of academic costume in 1895. The keystone of the standards was the hood, in its shape, edging, and colours. This article looks at changes to the colours assigned to degrees and areas of study from 1962 through the present. Charts showing when the colours started, and in some cases stopped, being used make up the appendices.
