Women in elementary and secondary education have watched with envy these past few years as their sisters in higher education formed caucuses and affirmative action committees; consulted with and documented for HEW officials their institutions' hiring practices; and generally moved ahead to seek new opportunities in employment and training for women. La Mujer Chicana, a course in the Women's Studies Program at the University of New Mexico, was taught for the third time in the fall of 1973. The idea for the course germinated in an organization called Las Chicanas. Dissatisfied with their "women's auxiliary role" in the activities of the Chicano Center on campus, these women decided to come together to conduct consciousness-raising sessions. Androgyny has been variously understood at different times in different cultures, but the idea has been ever present. Just as in each age myths are reinterpreted, so too the androgynous ideal must be redefined again and again by succeeding generations. Our androgynous vision can be informed by tradition and history, but it must be free of the misogyny and sexism which has pervaded much of what men have written about it heretofore. Residency Differentials In Mormon Fertility, Brian Leroy Pitcher

Although one of the most consistent findings of recent fertility research is the convergence of the religious differentials in fertility, little data have been analyzed to discover the Mormon fertility trends and differentials. This study, based on data obtained on 1,001 Mormon couples, is concerned with describing the effects that the dispersion of Mormon families from the Mormon center in Utah to surrounding areas with various social conditions is having on the fertility of the relocated Mormon families. Data presented clearly show that such families do, on the average, have a lower fertility than do their Mormon contemporaries residing in …
