C. William Pollard Papers

In this address at the 1995 College Church Men's Prayer Breakfast (Hilton Hotel in Lisle, IL), Pollard reflects upon contemporary culture's confusing and pessimistic nature. In the midst of increasing amorality and freedoms gone awry, Pollard posits that leaders must serve with conviction and purpose, which for him must be founded upon Christian values.

Resolving A Tension, Kenneth Y. Rosenzweig Jan 1995

Resolving A Tension, Kenneth Y. Rosenzweig

Accounting Faculty Publications

I went to Augsburg, Germany, this summer for an accounting research project and for a broader purpose — to get to know contemporary Germans and to learn how they think, especially about the Jewish people. I have always felt a tension between my feelings about Germany and those about being Jewish. In high school and college in the late 1950s and early 1960s, as I studied the German language, I developed a great respect for German culture. Yet, brought up with an extensive Jewish education, I understand how many American Jews visiting Europe resist even traveling to Germany, feeling such …

Attracting African American Honor Students Into Accounting, Dana Hermanson, Susan H. Ivancevich, Roger H. Hermanson

Faculty Articles

The percentage of minority professionals in the major accounting firms has risen only 2 percentage points since 1976. Black members of a national collegiate honor society were surveyed to see if their perceptions of the accounting profession lead them to select other majors. The nonaccounting students perceived the accounting profession very positively in providing long-term financial rewards and availability of employment. The nonfinancial characteristics of lifestyle, work environment, and nature of accounting work were perceived poorly by respondents. It is vital that black students gain a better understanding of the nonfinancial nature of accounting work and of the role of …

Women And Leadership Working Paper Series: Paper No. 3: Merit Or Obligation, Leonie V. Still Jan 1995

Women And Leadership Working Paper Series: Paper No. 3: Merit Or Obligation, Leonie V. Still

Research outputs pre 2011

The issue of merit or obligation concerning women's progress in employment in general, and in organisations in particular, gained renewed impetus in late 1994 with the push to have more women in politics. Australia and New Zealand led the world when establishing the right of women to vote, but are at present only slightly ahead in terms of women's representation in national and State Parliaments despite the centenary of women's suffrage (Coopers and Lybrand, 1994). Partly as a result of this lack of progress, the Australian Labor Party, at its 1994 National Conference, passed a motion to guarantee women a …

Women And Leadership Working Paper Series: Paper No. 1: Self-Employed Women: Four Years On, Leonie V. Still, Bill Chia

Research outputs pre 2011

Entrepreneurial or self-employed women are a growing component of the workforce worldwide. Australian statistics reveal that women are establishing their own businesses (in particular in self-employment) at a approximately twice the rate of men. In 1991-92 more than one million (41 per cent) of the 2.6 million people working in small business were women. Less than one third of these were self-employed or employers, while women accounted for 46 per cent of small business employees (Employment and Skills Formation Council, 1994)...

Characteristics, Perceived Skills And Leadership Styles Of Female Executives In The Senior Executive Service, Ahmad Mashayekh Jan 1995

Characteristics, Perceived Skills And Leadership Styles Of Female Executives In The Senior Executive Service, Ahmad Mashayekh

Theses and Dissertations in Urban Services - Urban Management

Recent studies have expressed considerable interest in the representation of women in the upper-level management in the federal government. Yet, very little is known about the characteristics and attributes of women in the executive level of the federal services. Most of the studies are undertaken to examine how women are different from the established male standards, or have used different models or variables to explain the slow career advancement of the women.

Using a 1991 survey of 278 female executives in the Senior Executive Service (SES) this study examines the characteristics, personal attributes, barriers, experiences, and leadership styles of women …

Orlando Gets Hockey But Not Nhl Hockey, Richard C. Crepeau

On Sport and Society

When the announcement came a little over a week ago The Orlando Sentinel fell over itself like the lapdog it has become for the Orlando Magic and the DeVoss family. It was of course the major news that Orlando was about to get a hockey team in the International Hockey League, and the city was about to facilitate the process with another sweetheart contract with the family DeVoss for use of the O-Arena.
