Advanced Decorative Ceramics Techniques For High School Students, Deborah Ann Kent May 1981

Advanced Decorative Ceramics Techniques For High School Students, Deborah Ann Kent

Dissertations and Theses

This thesis deals with the implementation of luster and underglaze ceramic decorating techniques into the secondary ceramic curriculum. The formation and presentation of this unit is based upon historical and contemporary research of lusters and underglazes, as well as the author's own work with the materials. An instructional unit was designed to fulfill three primary objectives. First, to acquaint the student with the basic materials and techniques; second, to introduce the student to the conceptualization of successful imagery; third, to give the student ample opportunity to explore the uses and possibilities of the materials.

Influences On Early Twentieth Century Bungalow Housing In Lincoln, Nebraska, Madeleine F. Panarelli May 1981

Influences On Early Twentieth Century Bungalow Housing In Lincoln, Nebraska, Madeleine F. Panarelli

Open Access Master's Theses (through 2010)

Housing publications of the Bungalow era (1900 to 1930) containing over 1200 illustrated Bungalows and derivations, were compared with 717 photographed representatives in Lincoln, Nebraska. These samples were categorized by 10 types first described by writer Henry Saylor (1911). Interpretations of the style by local builders and architects in Lincoln, Nebraska, were traced to house pattern books, national and local publications, and state and city records, to determine how the style evolved locally. The search led to regional design features of the Bungalow, nearly square forms, and composite types.

Chosen People, S. Eugene Needham

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

This thesis is an explanation of the artist's philosophy of art and religion which brought him to complete the specific paintings prepared for his graduate show. The paintings are of a generally religious nature, painted for the artist's private enjoyment and need for individual expression. The artist, admiring the achievements of Christian Art and wanting to add his statement, has researched related areas of thought to support his beliefs in life's ultimate considerations. Within the scope of the artist's ability he has produced a limited vision of Christian subjects with hopefully original Mormon-Hebraic overtones. The thesis also develops a theoretical …

Cordray Simmons (1888-1970) And Lue Osborne (1889-1968): Two American Artists: Inventors Of A True Synthetic Resin Paint, Pamela E. Mayo

Theses & Honors Papers

With the 1908 exhibition of "The Eight" (Robert Henri, A. B. Davies, Maurice Prendergast , George Luks, John Sloan, Everett Shinn, Ernest Lawson, and George Bellows) at William MacBeth's New York gallery, American art received new inspiration . Ac ademicism was repressed and originality and artistic freedom were encouraged . Under Robert Henri's leadership, a new American outlook had developed. Paintings began to report individual views of life in America and describe the realities of life in the new century. Life in modern America became the new subject of art, as artists became commentators on human interest scenes.
