Combining The Historical And The Personal In Painting, Christopher A. Shotola-Hardt May 1997

Combining The Historical And The Personal In Painting, Christopher A. Shotola-Hardt

Dissertations and Theses

This thesis project consists of five large scale, abstract paintings executed on Masonite panels. A major component of these paintings is the heavily built-up surface texture. There are four basic catagories, shaped largely by subject matter and environment, in which the majority of Ninas' work can be classified: the Petris and West Indies paintings and drawings, scenes of New Orleans, mural commissions, …

Useless Web Pages: Conceptual Folk Art Or Post Modern Web Dada?, Benjamin Eakins

SWITCH

When discussing “useless” web pages in regards to their existence as works of art, particularly regarding their place within an art paradigm, there are many factors to take into consideration. In this article, Benjamin Eakins states that web pages which fall under the “useless” category may do so for numerous reasons such as providing meaningless data, presenting specific personal details, or offering irrelevant and insufficient information. Eakins discusses how these pages invite the viewer through the entertainment of confrontation and absurdity with the use of interactivity, randomness, and social purposes. In addition, the nature of these “useless” web pages are …
