Illustration has often been dismissed as just a mechanical art, concerned with technique more than intellect. In fact, illustration is a theory of something’s essence, expressed and communicated visually. Craftsmanship – or a playful, mindful lack of it – is always in service to a concept and a purpose. The Masters theses summarized in this book are the result of struggles to give form to more than the tangible world. As writers and visualizers our students picture new meanings and refreshed experiences for the familiar; they define things previously unnamed.

By exploring diverse environments and interacting with environmental puzzles, you can uncover a story of existentialism and self-discovery. This project aims to explore how interactive media can represent the process of reclaiming one's identity in moments of darkness. Moreover, Finding Light aims to promote mental health awareness.

This thesis presents a group of sculptures and installations that explore how material, labor, and communication shape unequal access in diasporic life. It questions the common belief that movement, visibility, or relocation automatically leads to stability, care, or belonging. In my experience, arrival does not guarantee access. Using clay, steel and found materials, I create tension between softness and control. Many of these materials are worn and discarded. I cut and rebuild them, leaving marks of strain and repair visible rather than hiding them.

Clay retains histories; the memory of each action it experiences is depicted on its surface and in its form.  I am a potter focused on making objects that capture these moments. Pinching, scraping, trimming, throwing, and carving expose tooth and excavate form, revealing the qualities of the material and showing the marks of handwork. As a potter, I am interested in participating in a history of vessel making and understanding making through an interpretation of the historic object. This poster examines how the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas has developed a community engagement ecosystem through exhibitions, public programming, partnerships, and educational initiatives. Using the Living Here exhibition as a case study, the project demonstrates how university museums can function as community-centered spaces that foster dialogue, belonging, and civic participation. The poster highlights collaborative partnerships, oral history initiatives, student learning opportunities, K–12 engagement programs, and the future expansion of Living Here as a national traveling exhibition. This project includes a 3-dimensional adaptation of Charlotte Perkins Gilman's "The Yellow Wallpaper," highlighting struggles with mental health and women’s empowerment amid patriarchal oppression. The use of a 3-D model of the story gives the viewer a visual representation of the narrator’s mental and physical decline. Representative elements of this decline include the use of a chest and a string stretched across the “ceiling” of the room, which visually convey the narrator’s feeling of being trapped. Gender, a social construct, exists on a spectrum that is shaped by social, cultural, and embodied experience. Edges That Touch examines the instability of gender through the lens of combat sports, focusing on the way the hypermasculine environment abstracts femme identities. Informed by my lived experience, the work investigates the paradox in which empowerment and alienation coexist and destabilizes gender binaries.

These sister poems "more than any thing" and "more than any one" were written as an exploration of how we tend to romanticize people we are involved with romantically. After they break our hearts or hurt us in some way, we begin to see them as they truly are, for better or worse. "more than any thing" is the process of viewing someone through rose colored glasses, while "more than any one" is looking back on the relationship and wishing you had spent more time learning to love yourself.
