The Use Of Social Prescribing And Community-Based Wellbeing Activities As A Potential Prevention And Early Intervention Pathway To Improve Adolescent Emotional And Social Development: A Systematic Mapping Review, Siobhan B. Mitchell, Lucy Cartwright, Alex Gude, Alison Bethel, Harriet Hunt, Jane R. Smith, Daniel Hayes, Marcello Bertotti, Paul Jarvis-Beesley, Vashti Berry, Kerryn Husk

Peninsula Medical School

BACKGROUND: Social prescribing (SP) initiatives which aim to connect individuals to community-based assets have received increased research and policy attention, however schemes have mostly centred on adults. There is little research examining how social prescribing might work for children and young people (CYP), and specifically, what pathways into social prescribing look like for this group.

METHODS: We conducted a systematic mapping review to understand what social prescribing pathways look like for CYP. Searches were carried out in February 2022. We reviewed published journal articles and grey literature on pathways for CYP accessing activities or services in the community. We synthesised …

An Exploration Of The Career Choices Of Nursing And Midwifery Students In A Uk University: A Survey, Kevin Hambridge, Frazer Underwood, Gosia Bettache, Matt Carey, Mohamed Eid, Lisa Burrows, Christian Brailsford, Rachel Tims

School of Nursing and Midwifery

AbstractBackground:There is a worldwide shortage of nurses, so an increase in the supply of graduating nurses is needed. Little is known about nursing students' career choices and the reasons why certain jobs, specialties and locations are chosen. Gaining a better understanding of these choices could help healthcare employers to plan the nursing workforce of the future.Aims:The study explored the career choices of nursing and midwifery students. Methods:A convenience sample of 163 final-year nursing, midwifery and nursing associate students responded to an online survey exploring career choices.Findings:Most students (87.1%; n=142) had secured their first job, with the vast majority staying in the …

Between Sound And Theology: Timbral Performativity In Brazilian Religious Musicking, Marcell Silva Steuernagel Oct 2025

Between Sound And Theology: Timbral Performativity In Brazilian Religious Musicking, Marcell Silva Steuernagel

Yale Journal of Music & Religion

This article explores the performativity of timbre, summarizing key perspectives from the English-language scholarship on the topic and setting them in conversation with Latin American perspectives on timbre. In addition, it examines a performance of “500 Graus” (500 degrees), a song performed by Brazilian Pentecostal artists Cassiane and Shirley Carvalhaes, to demonstrate how the performativity of timbre unfolds within a particular expression of Latin American religious musicking. In doing so, it investigates the phenomenon of timbre between music and sound studies, and theology and church music studies, providing insights relevant to the study of timbre and the study of religious …

The Self-Curating Musician: An Innovative Concept And An Intensive Learning Experience By Systemic Design Thinking, Joris Blanckaert, Ellen Loots, Saskia Westerduin, Pawan V. Bhansing Oct 2025

The Self-Curating Musician: An Innovative Concept And An Intensive Learning Experience By Systemic Design Thinking, Joris Blanckaert, Ellen Loots, Saskia Westerduin, Pawan V. Bhansing

Journal of Arts Entrepreneurship Education

Self-curation is an emerging notion in the artistic practice that we propose as an alternative to the questioned notion of entrepreneurship in the realm of classical music. Systemic Design Thinking (SDT) methods helped conceptualize self-curation and develop an intensive, week-long learning experience. Participants validated the self-curation concept and its five components: activating creativity, seeking uniqueness, developing a discourse, understanding the performance practice and engaging communities. Our study further highlights that rather than suffering from a tension between arts and commerce, young (performing) musicians experience a tension between the expectation of the outside world that they need to be exceptional as …

Assessment Of Microbial Contamination On High-Touch Public Surfaces And Its Implications For Community Health: A Cross-Sectional Study From Urban South India, Muhammed Suhail S Oct 2025

Assessment Of Microbial Contamination On High-Touch Public Surfaces And Its Implications For Community Health: A Cross-Sectional Study From Urban South India, Muhammed Suhail S

Journal Of Indian Physician Associates

Objectives High-contact public surfaces, such as bus seatbacks, mall escalator belts, and theater armrests, may act as reservoirs of opportunistic and antimicrobial-resistant microorganisms, posing a significant but underreported risk to community health. In urban environments like Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, surface-level microbial surveillance remains poorly characterized. This study aimed to assess the magnitude, composition, and density of microbial contaminants on commonly touched surfaces across transit and commercial hubs.

Methods A total of 30 surface swab samples were collected from five public locations, including intra-city TNSTC buses, inter-state SETC coaches, Brookfields Mall escalator handrails, multiplex theaters and local bus seat-grips. Standardized 25 …

Saunders Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, And The Place Of Magic In Fantasy, Alexander Retakh Oct 2025

Saunders Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, And The Place Of Magic In Fantasy, Alexander Retakh

Mythlore: A Journal of J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, and Mythopoeic Literature

Welsh writer Saunders Lewis was, just as his almost exact contemporary J.R.R.Tolkien, a politically conservative Catholic with a deep interest in medieval myths. Both authors wrote fantasy based on Celtic tales, such as Lewis's play Blodeuwedd and Tolkien's poem The Lay of Aotrou and Itroun. While the latter follows the dicta of Tolkien's own "On Fairy-stories," Lewis created a more modernist work. Despite biographical and ideological similarities, the two approached their sources differently. Tolkien looked for unifying aesthetic principles that he called "unhazy unromantic momentariness," while Lewis used the traditional material to escape the constraints of romantic and realistic …

Thou Art Not Yet Dead: The Existential Struggle Of Indians In Eighteen-Century North America, I. B. Landry Oct 2025

Thou Art Not Yet Dead: The Existential Struggle Of Indians In Eighteen-Century North America, I. B. Landry

Bound Away: The Liberty Journal of History

The popular narrative of Indians in America typically has its genesis in the era of the Revolution. By pushing the scope of this narrative back only twenty years, one would find thriving indigenous population groups, contrary to the perception given to them in a story of America that begins with the War of Independence. By taking a traditionally neutral position, the Indians helped in maintaining a North American balance of power in every conflict preceding the Seven Years’ War. The wars ebbed and flowed according to the allegiances of the Indians. Not only would the Seven Years’ War be …
