How To Vocally Train Transgender Singers: A Thorough Literature Review, Sydney A. Timmer
How To Vocally Train Transgender Singers: A Thorough Literature Review, Sydney A. Timmer
Senior Honors Theses and Projects
The knowledge of training transgender voices is just beginning to make its way into mainstream music education. However, there needs to be more known and a curriculum in place to address this critical topic. Transgender students face many unique challenges in the voice studio, and educators must have the knowledge to teach these students. There are several elements to consider when training transgender students. These elements include the anatomical changes of masculinizing hormones on the body and voice, the anatomical changes of feminizing hormones on the body and voice, vocal exercises for both transfeminine and transmasculine students, how to choose …

Population Sustainability In Rural Great Plains Towns, Andrew Husa
Population Sustainability In Rural Great Plains Towns, Andrew Husa
School of Global Integrative Studies: Faculty Publications
As researchers look to define a narrative of population decline throughout the region, the rural Great Plains towns that have been able to sustain their populations and attract new residents have seemingly gone unnoticed. This article features case studies from six rural Nebraska towns that address key questions regarding the population sustainability of rural Great Plains towns. Along with a discussion on the significance of geographic location in population growth or decline, this study includes several examples of how rural towns have used their locations to their advantage, created more job opportunities, enticed new residents to move in, and/or dealt …

Every Artist Is An Advocate: An Autoethnographic Analysis Of How Higher Education Imposes Artist Advocacy, Noah R B Durnell
Undergraduate Theses, Professional Papers, and Capstone Artifacts
Increasing instability in higher education funding (Thomas, 2021) has directly impacted the University of Montana music program but has also indirectly changed the role of music students to such an extent that I now often say, “every artist is an advocate.” In 2018, the University of Montana School of Music experienced significant threats from budget cuts, and in the years following, attempts to earn legislative funding for capital development failed. Faced with these budget cuts and other lack of funding, music students had to advocate for themselves and employ community and institutional support to maintain the strength of their program. …

Australian Journal of Teacher Education
Calls for enhancing the digital interface for teaching and learning within tertiary institutions have played out in one School of Education, with variable results. Online learning tasks were added in 2018 to regular classes to provide more flexibility for student engagement. A team of lecturers developed a questionnaire for students to be completed after the first semester pilot. Data and findings indicated that one-third of students identified online learning as an enhancement to their learning. A second survey was conducted one year later to assess changes made and analyse the longer-term impacts. During the COVID-19 lockdown, fully online pedagogy was …

Horizontal Collusion And Parallel Wage-Setting In Labor Markets, Jonathan S. Masur, Eric A. Posner
Horizontal Collusion And Parallel Wage-Setting In Labor Markets, Jonathan S. Masur, Eric A. Posner
Coase-Sandor Institute for Law & Economics Research Paper Series
Horizontal collusion among employers to suppress wages has received almost no attention in the academic literature, in contrast with its more familiar cousin, product market collusion. The similar economic analysis of labor and product markets might suggest that antitrust should regulate labor and product markets in the same way. But product markets and labor markets do not operate identically: people behave differently as employees and as consumers. Unlike consumers who can switch products relatively easily, employees face significant frictions in changing jobs. Other labor market frictions are created by the pay equity norm and downward nominal wage rigidity. These factors …

The 1950 Anta Production Of The Tower Beyond Tragedy, A Facsimile Edition: Part I, Introduction, James Karman
Jeffers Studies
The introduction to this two-part study provides an account of the 1950 staging of The Tower Beyond Tragedy, starring Judith Anderson. It contains information about the friendship between Jeffers and Anderson that occasioned the production, a description of the script used for the ANTA Playhouse performance in New York, and a summary of the critical response.
Part II of this study contains a photographic reproduction of the final script used for the 1950 production of The Tower Beyond Tragedy. As the only surviving record of that failed production, the facsimile reveals the changes made by Anderson and others to …

Social Media And Journalism: How Twitter Impacts News Coverage In Kenya, Philip Mwaniki Njung’E
Master of Arts in Digital Journalism
Twitter had been extensively adopted by the public, journalists, and news organizations as a new digital tool for disseminating information. Therefore, if Twitter is considered a new and effective way of gathering information that makes up news content, an investigation on how it impacts news coverage, journalists, and newsroom practices is significant. The present study conducted said investigation and came up with findings that significantly contributed to the available information about the relationship between Twitter and news dissemination. It particularly investigated how Twitter impacts news content and coverage, journalistic routines, and newsroom practices in Kenya. This study draws its data …

Indoor Air Quality Through The Lens Of Outdoor Atmospheric Chemistry, Jonathan P.D. Abbatt, Douglas B. Collins
Indoor Air Quality Through The Lens Of Outdoor Atmospheric Chemistry, Jonathan P.D. Abbatt, Douglas B. Collins
Faculty Contributions to Books
Outdoor atmospheric chemistry and air quality have been the topic of research that intensified in earnest around the mid-20th century, while indoor air quality research has only been a key focus of chemical researchers over the last 30 years. Examining practices and approaches employed in the outdoor atmospheric chemistry research enterprise provides an additional viewpoint from which we can chart new paths to increase scientific understanding of indoor chemistry. This chapter explores our understanding of primary chemical sources, homogeneous and multiphase reactivity, gas-surface partitioning, and the coupling between the chemistry and dynamics of indoor air through the lens of …

Relationship Between Video Games And Recovery From Work: A Comparison Of Different Genres And Leisure Activities, Jessica A. Gass
Relationship Between Video Games And Recovery From Work: A Comparison Of Different Genres And Leisure Activities, Jessica A. Gass
Honors Undergraduate Theses
Work stress can have a negative impact for both individuals and organizations, warranting research on how to recover from it. This research analyzes how the relationship between video games and work recovery differs depending on the genre of the video game played. In addition, these relationships are compared against the relationships between the recovery experiences and other leisure activities. Participants were asked to provide information on how often they play video games and engage in other leisure activities. In addition, two different measures of the four components of work recovery (psychological detachment from work, relaxation, mastery experiences, and control) were …

Sacrificing Sisters: Nurses' Psychological Trauma From The First World War, 1914-1918, Kayla Campana
Sacrificing Sisters: Nurses' Psychological Trauma From The First World War, 1914-1918, Kayla Campana
Electronic Theses and Dissertations, 2020-2023
This thesis examines psychological war trauma nurses experienced during the First World War. Psychological war trauma, or shell shock, as it was commonly known during the war, has largely been identified as a male affliction. In this thesis, I demonstrate that women too, suffered trauma and we can better understand nurses' trauma by applying some of the same analytical techniques that scholars have previously used to examine male combatant trauma. Moreover, I analyze the ways in which contemporary actors, including medical professionals and the public, imagined female trauma, specifically the way nurses' psychological trauma could be understood and articulated. Additionally, …
