When COVID-19 first hit, it stopped live theatre in its tracks, on both a local and global level. As theatres started to reopen, productions looked different. Performances were now held outside and with safety precautions such as social distancing and the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment for actors and audience members, there very quickly arose a new issue of the sonic intelligibility of a performance. This thesis looks at a CBS and Warner Bros. (CW) television show, The Hundred, to examine prominent operatic themes and how it utilizes sound. The Hundred uses both its characters and plot to demonstrate a variety of dynamics, relationships and roles that are common opera staples. Todorov’s concept of the fantastic plays an essential part in the structure of the show, allowing a discussion of what qualifies as supernatural through the categorization of events under labels of the uncanny and the marvelous. Each year, hundreds of early childhood educators from the many parts of the world travel to a small town in the northern part of Italy to study the arts-based, project focused, a child-initiated method known as the Reggio Emilia approach. This unique approach focuses on infant-toddler through preschool and primary education. While teachers are engaged in professional learning and growth, it is hard to determine how many early childhood programs and classrooms are truly influenced by the Reggio Emilia approach. Based on Dwight Conquergood's key concepts of play, power, process, and poetics/language, this paper documents the theater-pedagogical model project Fluchtpunkt Magdeburg 2015 to2019, in which young people with and without refugee experiences living in Magdeburg, Germany, developed three plays and a film under dance- and theater-pedagogical direction with the pronounced goal of promoting social and linguistic integration. The aim of this documentation is to systematically describe the project and to identify successful elements that make future projects sustainable and feasible for planning and implementation in the long term.

Machinal written by Sophie Treadwell in 1928 and Clit Notes written by Holly Hughes in 1996 are two plays half a century apart yet bring forth the female body upstage and center. I see Machinal bringing attention to the societal machine that takes control of the focal character, Helen, from the first act. Clit Notes shows how a woman’s body could be removed from its first society, her parental home, simply for existing in a body that refuses to fit in a patriarchal box that is designed according to its perception of what that body should be doing. Since its discovery and documentation in the nineteenth century, Wilson’s Arch—the final arch along a stone-built bridge known as the “Great Causeway”—has been a focal point of discussion concerning Jerusalem’s urban development and the access to the most central feature in the city’s landscape, the Temple Mount. This paper presents the results of three years of excavation beneath the arch, where eight strata were exposed, ranging in date from the Hasmonean until the Ottoman period. Like many before, this thesis uses the tragedy of the Holocaust as a historical comparison to an event occurring today, mainly in the Xinjiang region of the People’s Republic of China. Many historians have argued that comparisons to the Holocaust should be academically or intellectually prohibited. Many have stated that such an effort could minimize the perceived severity of or unintentionally raise other events to the level of the Jewish genocide. First Amendment Challenges To State Vaccine Mandats: Why The U.S. Supreme Court Should Hold That The Free Exercise Clause Does Not Require Religious Exemptions, Donna M. Gitter

The U.S. Supreme Court has never issued a judicial opinion on the merits declaring that the First Amendment Free Exercise Clause permits states to mandate vaccinations without offering religious exemptions. However, in two recent cases, the Court in brief orders declined applications for emergency relief to block state vaccine mandates, and the petitioners have vowed to continue to pursue these cases.

This Comment will argue that, while the Consent Decrees seem obsolete in the 21st century when studios own significant numbers of theaters, movies are no longer released one theater at a time like they were in 1948, which implicates relevant antitrust standards. With the prevalence of streaming, termination of the Paramount Decrees would allow streaming giants such as Disney+ and Netflix to monopolize the movie release market through the hybrid release model, impacting future case law and litigation. Like legal texts, dramatic texts have a public function and public responsibilities not shared by texts written to be appreciated in solitude. For this reason, the interpretation of dramatic texts offers a variety of useful templates for the interpretation of legal texts. In this Article, I elaborate on Jack Balkin and Sanford Levinson’s neglected account of law as performance. I begin with Balkin and Levinson’s observation that both legal and dramatic interpreters are charged with persuading audiences that their readings of texts are “authoritative,” analyzing the relationship between legal and theatrical authority and tradition. The Supreme Court has never squarely addressed the First Amendment status of student-on-student verbal harassment at public institutions of higher education. Does the First Amendment permit public colleges and universities to discipline students on the grounds that their speech has created a hostile learning environment for others on campus?
