Learning By Playing: A Curriculum Utilizing Improvisational Theater To Develop Prosocial Behavior Skills And Self-Efficacy In Young Adolescents, Lynn Lovett Barr

Prosocial behavior requires competency in social-emotional skills including interpersonal skills, conflict resolution, and emotional regulation. During the developmental stage of early adolescence, youth are learning these skills and are more likely to engage in prosocial behavior if they feel efficacious in them. However, most social-emotional learning programs focus on conceptual knowledge in these areas without providing sufficient opportunities for practice, which does not allow students to develop sufficient procedural knowledge and self-efficacy. Improvisational theater offers a solution to this problem; used in concert with social-emotional lessons, it provides practice scenarios and procedural learning opportunities. This paper explores inclusive entrepreneurship course design across European universities. Drawing a sample of six cases across five universities the paper adopts a multiple case study research design to explore how educators are supporting the Missing Entrepreneurs according to the OECD definition (women, people with disability, refugees and migrants, young people and seniors). The findings show interesting and innovative pedagogical approaches to emerge by analogy and replication. The paper provides empirical and practical contribution for educators in terms of developing entrepreneurship courses according to the principles of universal design for learning drawing on needs of the Missing Entrepreneurs. International Journal of Transpersonal Studies

This paper describes “Kalos, eîdos, skopeîn,” an immersive Dhrupad-based dance installation designed to elicit feelings of awe in the spectators, in a real-life artistic context. This study used a mixed-methods approach in order to explore spectators’ awe experience (N=45), using specific scales and interpretative phenomenological analysis. Results suggested that “Kalos, eîdos, skopeîn,” with its combination of nature motifs and the slow dance-walk associated with the Dhrupad music in the choreography, was able to produce awe-related moments in some spectators and inspire a degree of positive emotions. Historically, popular media has functioned as a window into society’s ever evolving idea of normalcy. Children’s popular media, which contains elements of both entertainment and didacticism, is further burdened with the responsibility of influencing the perspectives of upcoming generations. This truth is particularly salient for the LGBTQ+ community, who have faced consistent misrepresentation or utter erasure from children’s media in the recent past. While there have been marked improvements in both the quality and quantity of queer representation in children’s media since 2015’s Obergefell v. What does it mean to be a theater director with identities and social positions that do not align with those of 19th century, Western European directors? Inspired by the incredible lack of qualitative information on most female directors and directors of color, the scholarly component of this Honors project consists of an analysis of the directing processes of Elizabeth LeCompte and Whitney White, in particular LeCompte’s Hamlet and White’s An Iliad.

For that, I draw from documentation on LeCompte’s and White’s filmed materials of their work, hours of recorded interviews about their processes, and articles about their productions. Both directors …

Women have developed a reputation for gossiping to disparage the reputation of each other, leveraging terms like “floozie,” “bimbo,” and “slut” against one another. While women will rage against men who support the patriarchy, women are often some of the strictest enforcers of its standards. In Kate Hamill’s playscript Little Women, an adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s 1868 novel, it is Aunt March, not a man, who places pressure on Jo to assimilate to society’s expectation of women. Next To Normal, the Broadway musical by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey, follows a dysfunctional family whose matriarch struggles with a multitude of mental health issues. Delving into hard topics, such as mental health and family relationships, the musical challenges what we consider to be normal family dynamics and mental states. These important themes are mainly demonstrated through Diana, a mother and wife who struggles with severe mental health diagnosis. Through this analysis, these difficult questions are unveiled while looking closely at the musical’s plot structure, characters, ideas, and dialogue.

The United States Information Agency (USIA) was America’s international public diplomacy arm throughout the Cold War. The agency used various media to counter Soviet messaging and portray the United States in a positive light. One of the agency’s most effective means of conveying such messaging was through exhibitions, such as trade fairs and world’s fairs. Jack Masey was a skilled designer and diplomat whose experiences on the ground in India and Afghanistan in the early 1950s would shape the USIA’s approach to exhibit design and execution for decades to come. The project is an initiating discussion about the dramatic function and social-ideological implication of magic and magical elements in the surviving corpus of the Italian improvisational theater commedia dell’arte scenarios from the early seventeenth century. The essay begins with a cursory exploration of the position of commedia dell'arte amongst other notable theatrical forms blossoming across the European continent in the late renaissance. The study then focuses on eight plays selected from the 1611 Scala Collection to further examine the use of magic by commedia performers, followed by individual analysis of plot construct and dramaturgical theories. Mei Lan-fang was the most well-known Beijing Opera practitioner specializing in the impersonation of historical and mythological female characters. His captivating performance style is known as “The School of Mei”. It balances the external stage presence and internal precision and attends to the minutiae. His performances were drawn predominantly from the classic repertoire, and they have won him the position that “no other Chinese actor attained and retained” (Scott ii). As of late, there has been a concerted push in the Biden administration, backed by prominent academics, to expand the application of antitrust law against major employers who are said to exercise monopsony power that reduces aggregate demand and thus leaves too many workers on the sidelines. The effort takes place chiefly in two major areas: stricter attacks on covenants not-to-compete, and more intense review of mergers under the Clayton Act.
