Actor Training Underwater In The Future, John Matthews
Actor Training Underwater In The Future, John Matthews
School of Law, Humanities and Social Sciences
An account and report on the findings of the Story Futures funded research project, Watercourse: Actor Training and Virtual Production in Immersive Dome Spaces, with project partners, Theatre Royal Plymouth and Hi9 Natural Language Agency. The research, testing the potential of emergent virtual production and immersive technology to ‘Queer Time’ actor training in the near future, took place at Devonport Market Hall immersive dome; a 15-metre world-class immersive projection space in Plymouth. Testing the integration of technology in training was not intent on developing actor training methodologies specifically for immersive performance or virtual production; the enquiry was into the potential …

Reiterated Empathy In Ba Director Training, Alex Cahill
Reiterated Empathy In Ba Director Training, Alex Cahill
School of Art, Design and Architecture
In 2019, the University of Plymouth started the only current BA Directing degree program in the United Kingdom. As programme creator/lead and curriculum designer, I was interviewed in 2021 by The Stage to discuss whether the craft of directing can be taught in a classroom. While some may argue the ‘director’s eye (that is – the mental ability to coherently visualise the whole production) cannot be taught, I argue that directing skills, specifically collaboration skills through reiterated empathy, can both be taught and should also be the basis of director training. Therefore, I created a series of exercises based on …

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications
Background: Based on electroencephalogram (EEG) analysis, index of consciousness (IoC) monitoring is a new technique for monitoring anesthesia depth. IoC is divided into IoC1 (depth of sedation) and IoC2 (depth of analgesia). The potential for concurrent monitoring of IoC1 and IoC2 to expedite postoperative convalescence remains to be elucidated. We investigated whether combined monitoring of IoC1 and IoC2 can effectively enhances postoperative recovery compared with bispectral index (BIS) in elderly patients undergoing laparoscopic urological surgery under general anesthesia.
Methods: In this prospective, controlled, double-blinded trail, 120 patients aged 65 years or older were arbitrarily assigned to either the IoC group …
Dark Money Darker? Irs Shutters Collection Of Donor Data, Philip Hackney
Dark Money Darker? Irs Shutters Collection Of Donor Data, Philip Hackney
Florida Tax Review
The IRS recently rescinded a longstanding rule that required certain nonprofits to disclose substantial donor names and addresses on the nonprofit annual information return. This was a mistake. Though the rule remains for charities and political organizations, the collection of this information non-publicly by the IRS is needed to enforce tax-exempt requirements and the tax law generally for social welfare organizations and business leagues. It serves both as a roadmap for audits and as a hindrance to improper transactions. It also is reasonable for the IRS to collect this information to support legal regimes ancillary to the tax law such …

Chapter X — Where To, Ethiopia?, Messay Kebede
Ethiopian Modernization: Opportunities and Derailments
In the wake of the dethronement of the TPLF, Ethiopia was presented with four options arising from the implementation of ethnonationalist ideology and policies for 27 years. The options have generated politico-ideological movements that compete for the seizure of power in Ethiopia. Broadly speaking, these movements can be viewed as different stands in relation to Article 39 of the constitution granting ethnic groups an unconditional right to self-determination, including secession (see previous chapter). Let us briefly examine the four positions with the view of clearly demarcating the lines separating them.

Reframing Space: Religion, History, And Memory In The Early Documentary Film Of The Yugoslav Space, Milja Radovic
Journal of Religion & Film
This paper examines cinematic representations of religion and religious communities in the early cinema of the Yugoslav space. This paper introduces the readers to the rich heritage of the cinema of the Yugoslav space by providing 1) the first study of the representations of religion and the concepts of faith in the early film, and 2) novel approaches in reading religion and history through film. Film is used as a primary rather than supplementary source in historical research on diverse religious and ethnic communities in this part of the Balkan Peninsula. This is the first study that investigates the importance, …
Nonprofit Organizations And Arts Education In A Rural Community, Elise Lael Kieffer
Nonprofit Organizations And Arts Education In A Rural Community, Elise Lael Kieffer
Faculty & Staff Research and Creative Activity
The connection between public administration and nonprofit administration has been in existence since ancient times, when individual volunteers (the predecessors of a formal nonprofit sector) met humanitarian needs to which the government was unwilling or unable to attend. Addams (1910) formalized this intersecting relationship during her time working in Chicago’s slums with refugees. Pandey & Johnsons (2019) drew connections between public administration, public policy, and nonprofit management. They concluded that discoveries in one of those domains should necessarily be applied to the others. They advised that continued research should draw explicit connections across those sectors and highlighted examples of the …
