Chapter Iv — Eurocentric Versus Ethio-Centric Approaches To Ethiopia’S Modernization Lag: The Concept Of Derailment, Messay Kebede
Ethiopian Modernization: Opportunities and Derailments
After studying the link between survival and modernization, the next logical step is to provide concrete answers to the question of why Ethiopia’s impressive record of survival failed to initiate a successful process of modernization. In fact, the greater the resolution to survive, the more determined should have been the drive toward modernization. Yet, not only is Ethiopia still ranked among the poorest countries, but it is also entangled in numerous internal conflicts, the primary consequence of which is an unending political instability threatening its very existence. However, before delving into the reasons for the Ethiopian failure to modernize, we …

Effect Of Operational And Design Parameters On Desiccant-Assisted Hybrid Air-Conditioning Systems Performance, Shaimaa Mohamed El-Hetamy, Alsaid Khalil, El-Sayed Abdelazim El-Agouz, Mohamed Samadony
Journal of Engineering Research
Energy savings are a major goal in our lives because energy consumption is continuously increasing. We have studied in this paper four air conditioning systems, so that each system mainly consists of a vapor compression cycle and a rotating desiccant wheel. The thermodynamic analysis for air conditioning system, the heat exchanger, the ground heat exchanger and the evaporative water spray cooler were presented. Design and operating parameters including outlet air temperature, outlet air humidity, regeneration air temperature, and desiccant wheel speed are studied to assess its effect on the performance of the systems considered. This hybrid system significantly decreases the …

Sustainable Urban Design Of Urban Spaces In Residential Areas And Their Impact On Human Behavior, Amira Gaber
Journal of Engineering Research
Public spaces in residential areas can be considered as a key controller of people's behavior. As these spaces motivate people to socially interact this by the way tailor their personality and mental processes. Besides, this interaction affects the quality of life of individuals and the way they interact with the environment. Accordingly, it is essential for architects to pay more concern to the design of open areas with more consideration to human aspects rather than just physical aspects only. Moreover, the goals and principles of sustainability, especially social sustainability has to be considered. This attributed to the strong relationship and …

Active Analysis In The Beginning Acting Classroom, Michael Shipley
Active Analysis In The Beginning Acting Classroom, Michael Shipley
Theatre Arts Faculty Publications
Often, the exercises in the acting classroom can feel at odds with the processes used in the rehearsal room. I believe Konstantin Stanislavsky’s rehearsal method of Active Analysis provides tools and perspectives for dealing with these challenges. At The S Word Symposium in November 2022, I outlined a process I developed for teaching beginning acting using principles of Active Analysis as a tool to bridge the gap between training and rehearsing. This article outlines the experiences and thought processes that went into creating this class structure and reviews the benefits for students. Applied in this way, Stanislavsky’s impulse to place …
