Respiratory Treatments In Post-Covid Patients To Improve Physical Activity, Pamela Tarver
Respiratory Treatments In Post-Covid Patients To Improve Physical Activity, Pamela Tarver
Dissertations
A significant number of individuals affected by the coronavirus (COVID) developed severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), causing respiratory dysfunction which led to decreased functional capacity. This project aimed to evaluate the project site's archival data for post-COVID patients to determine whether respiratory treatments improved physical activity, as evidenced by the results of the pre and post 6-minute walk test (6MWT) and oxygen saturation (SpO2) levels. The Donabedian quality model was utilized to evaluate the resources, the interventions, and the outcomes of post-COVID patients.

Implementing A Tai Chi Exercise Program To Prevent Falls In Long-Term Care, Angela F. Miles
Dissertations
Falls can be a frequent occurrence in older adults residing in long-term care facilities. At the project site there was no systematic process to impact falls, so an evidence-based solution was sought. The purpose of this quality improvement project was to determine if the translation of Li et al.'s research utilizing Tai Ji Quan: Moving for Better Balance (TJQMBB) exercise in conjunction with the current fall risk assessment would impact fall rates among older adults over a 12-week period in an urban Georgia long term care facility. Betty Neuman's systems theory and Kurt Lewin's change model provided the scientific underpinnings …

Perceptions Of Using Multiple Measures For Student Placement At Rural Virginia Community Colleges, Whitney Bowling
Ed.D. Dissertations
Remedial courses have been part of the college landscape in the United States since at least the 1800s when nearly 250,000 students were placed into remedial courses. Traditionally, students who enrolled in remedial courses were placed into that course solely based on one test score. Students who enrolled in traditional remedial courses were more likely to not graduate than their peers placed into college-level English and Mathematics courses. This research aims to understand the rural Virginia community college English and mathematics professors’ perceptions of implementing and using multiple measures to place students into first-year English and mathematics courses. The data …

Maximizing Generative Ai Benefits With Task Creativity And Human Validation, Charu Sinha, Veselina P. Vracheva, Cristina Nistor
Business Faculty Articles and Research
Much of the existing literature on generative AI applications is conflicting, with findings suggesting that investing in AI will lead to better organizational outcomes but also pointing out that incorporating AI may be a wasteful even counterproductive initiative. We develop a conceptual frame-work to characterize generative AI benefits based on the types of tasks that generative AI may be used for in management. Our work suggests that task creativity plays a key role in successful generative AI outcomes, but human validation - the extent to which a human engages in a supervisory role - is required to reap the benefits. …

Information About Honey Fraud: Implications Of Information Choice For Consumer Behavior, Christopher R. Gustafson
Information About Honey Fraud: Implications Of Information Choice For Consumer Behavior, Christopher R. Gustafson
Cornhusker Economics
The study highlights that standard research practice—exposing participants to information—may not capture what will happen outside of the lab when people have a choice about what to read, view, or do with their time. While we found that having participants read about honey fraud significantly shifted their willingness to pay for local and domestic versus imported honey, we did not find those changes when people were able to select a text to read.
The implications of these findings extend beyond the issue of honey fraud to broader contexts of food safety, nutrition, and production techniques. While people have preferences for …

Self-Efficacy In Salt Consumption Among Patients Undergoing Hemodialysis, Desy Listyaningrum, Melyza Perdana, Anita Kustanti
Jurnal Keperawatan Indonesia
Salt consumption restriction has many advantages in patients on hemodialysis (HD), but it is also very challenging for them. Self-efficacy is a crucial aspect of successful disease management. Factors related to self-efficacy have been evaluated in many countries. However, the different demographic characteristics in Indonesia may show different significant results. Understanding this problem may contribute to the development of nursing interventions and the patients’ self-management ability while undergoing HD. Hence, the present study aimed to determine the factors associated with self-efficacy for restricting salt consumption among HD patients. Altogether, 98 HD patients participated in this cross-sectional study. The Self-efficacy for …

Center for Policy Research
Finding affordable childcare can be a struggle. Childcare subsidy programs help reduce barriers to stable childcare options and support parents’ employment, but due to administrative hurdles, such as recertification periods and income reporting requirements, many eligible parents are not using these programs. Using quarterly employment and earnings data from 2016-2019 Virginia administrative data, this brief describes associations between childcare subsidy program participation and household employment and earnings outcomes among low-income families in Virginia. Results show that, following initial childcare subsidy receipt, working parents increased their labor force participation, earned more money, and experienced more economic and employment stability compared to …

Catalonia has formally acknowledged cultural diversity in its cultural and linguistic policies since the 1990s. The parliament has enacted laws protecting the Aranese language in the Val d’Aran, and the Generalitat has integrated immigrants thanks to interdepartmental programmes. Around 2010, Catalonia and Spain entered a political crisis, which was intensified by the central government’s recentralization, notably in cultural and linguistic policies. Spain ratified the UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions in 2006, but did not facilitate a wider Catalan action, oriented to promote the use of Catalan language in public and economic spheres. …
