For performers, specifically dancers and actors, the body constitutes the vast majority of focus and training. It is what we present onstage, share with audiences, and contract to casting directors and choreographers. Our bodies, the way they look and move, directly influence the amount and quality of work we make. The concept of body neutrality, then, poses an interesting challenge for performers and those of us who train them. In my recent conceptual analysis of greed, I argue that there are three different conceptual aspects, namely, a consuming desire to acquire more and more (the psychological), an inordinate love for material possession and power (the metaphysical), and an action of acquiring more than one’s share by taking what belongs to one’s fellow citizens, essentially with a calculating indifference toward others (the socio-historical). Pennsylvania has recognized the importance of public education since the Commonwealth’s inception in 1776. Although early versions of the Pennsylvania Constitution only contemplated a discretionary system of schools for poor children, in 1834 the state’s public education system was expanded through statute to provide schooling to all children. The almost universal availability and pervasive presence of the internet, and its rapidly proliferating different forms of social media, have presented challenges to defining the First Amendment rights of K-12 students when they are physically or virtually present in public schools versus in non-school settings.1 K-12 public schools publish school handbooks containing rules of conduct for students in the school context, and students are required to sign that they have read and understand the conduct rules and the consequences for violations. Schools may also require parents to attest to their knowledge of the school rules and consequences for violations.

Education is likely the most democratized area of policymaking in the United States. Of the approximately 13,500 public school districts in the United States, the vast majority are elected—and “school board member” is one of the most common elected offices in the country. At the state level, twenty-two states, two territories, and the District of Columbia have elected education officials. The exposure of public-school governance to direct democratic input has, in recent years, created an opening for outside forces to spend money and support candidates—which has included charter-school advocates and those opposed to “Critical Race Theory.”

Drawing on faith/spirituality at work and organizational legitimacy literatures, a case study of a large global meat company is used to deconstruct the concept of faith-friendly business and explore how faith-washing can provide a business with legitimacy and potentially distract stakeholders from irresponsible activities. The purpose of this qualitative multiple case study was to explore how the educational experiences and professional identities of academic librarians shape their approach to information literacy instruction within the context of post-secondary research universities. Through deep engagement with three academic librarian-teacher participants, the study sought to understand how information literacy instruction is enacted, administered, and experienced by these individual academic librarians. This thesis aims to explore the religion and politics of tenth and eleventh-century Baghdad, with a main focus on Twelver Shīʿī doctrine, by shedding light on one highly significant family that was central to the regulation of the ʿAbbāsid and Būyid government. The ʿAlid Mūsawī brothers, al-Sharīf al-Murtaḍā (d. 966/1044) and al-Sharīf al-Raḍī (d. 969/1015), were both influential figures amongst Baghdad’s scholastic community and were closely connected with the ruling elites. In this research, I examine three main activities that the brothers were involved in: their contribution towards Shīʿī law, the niqāba office, and Qur’ānic exegesis.

This thesis investigates to what extent the migration of a household member to an Arab country leads to increased social and economic empowerment among Egyptian women of two age categories (15-35 and +35) over two waves. Determined through Principle Component Analysis (PCA) of panel data from Egypt Labor Market Panel Surveys in 2018 and 2023, composite indices of social and economic empowerment serve as dependent variables in an IV 2SLS regression model. Shareholder reflective loss (SRL) claims are filed by shareholders seeking compensation for the indirect damage they incur due to the injury directly suffered by their company. The loss of shareholders reflects the company’s loss in the form of a reduction of their share value. While national corporate laws generally adopt a consistent approach regarding SRL claims, fragmentation prevails on the international plane.
