Coral microbiology research has long focused on the composition and functional roles of prokaryotic organisms, but microeukaryotic communities, including the enigmatic fungi remain a poorly understood “black box” within coral and other holobionts. Here, we summarise what is known and hypothesised about the diversity, functional traits and potential, and chemodiversity of coral- and reef-associated fungi and fungi-like organisms (FLOs). While analyzing health data is important for improving health outcomes, class imbalance in datasets poses major challenges to machine learning classification models. This work, therefore, considers the class imbalance problem in stroke prediction using models such as K-nearest neighbors, support vector machine, logistic regression, random forest, and decision tree. This work balances the stroke dataset, thereby enhancing model performance, through various oversampling strategies: random oversampling (RO), ADASYN, SMOTE, and SMOTE–Tomek. Compared to the results of the imbalanced dataset, all applied oversampling techniques enhanced the correct classification of stroke events by the ML model. Among these, RO–SVM with RBF kernel was …

Employing a firm-level panel dataset from Statistik Industri for 2008-2015, this study investigates the effect of incoming Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) on inefficiency traps in Indonesia. Firms often face transient and persistent inefficiencies in production and resource utilization, impeding optimal efficiency and productivity. Stochastic Frontier Analysis and Tobit estimates quantify the positive impact of FDI spillovers on inefficiency traps, with FDI spillovers reducing both inefficiencies, particularly transient inefficiencies. Foreign investment externalities diminish inefficiencies through spatial and sectoral spillovers, with spatial spillovers exerting a larger influence. Improved human capital and increased access to foreign inputs also contribute to the mitigation of …

Current scholarly literature has asserted that large non-profit organizations benefit from conducting fundraising-activity audit portfolio analyses. However, suitable techniques and tools that ultra-small nonprofits (990N-sized charities) can use to improve their fundraising-activity analyses have not been clearly established. The research problem was in modifying tools that work efficiently for hyper-localized charities to compare the effectiveness of their fundraising-activities. International Journal of Exercise Science 18(8): 263-274, 2025. The purpose of this study was to compare eccentric strengthening to static stretching for increasing hamstring flexibility. Sixty-three asymptomatic participants were recruited via convenience sampling. Nineteen participants did not meet the inclusion criteria, thus leaving 44 participants. Inclusion criteria included hamstring tightness defined using the passive knee extension test (PKE). Exclusion criteria included a history of any lower extremity injury, including hamstring injury, within the past 12 months. These discussions largely ignore the trade secrets space outside the context of other’s ownership of AI-related technology. This is likely due to the disconnect between creatorship and ownership that exists in trade secrets law, but that is not present in patent and copyright law. This paper reports on the procedures and problems associated with the development of a digital cartographic data base for the creation of small scale, small size locator maps. These locator maps are used as inserts to accompany thematic and planimetric maps. They are generally very simple outlines of coastlines or political boundaries, but may also contain boxed or shaded areas, graticules, and occasionally, thematic content. The north-central United States, namely Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin, experienced a severe drought during 1987-88 crop year. Monthly precipitation data of the crop year (September through August) were analyzed for 58 stations over the period 1964-65 through 1987-88 to quantify the intensity and extent of this drought. With the exception of a narrow strip in northern Minnesota the entire study area was affected by this drought. More than 92 percent of the stations experienced seven to eleven months of precipitation deficiency during this drought. Approximately 50 percent of the study area experienced precipitation deficiency of over 30 percent. South-central Iowa …

The Abandoned Shipwreck Act of 1987 is perhaps the most important piece of recent federal legislation enacted affecting underwater archaeology and the preservation of underwater historic sites. With this short statute, the federal government vested title to virtually all historic shipwrecks in navigable water to the states. The act also changed existing legal principles in order to allow the states to enact their own laws to protect and preserve underwater historic resources. These types of phages can be used to treat patients with antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections. This article argues that there is no international legal impediment to any State robustly asserting prescriptive, enforcement, or adjudicative jurisdiction over vessels without nationality. It first examines the rules relating to vessel nationality to demonstrate the strong international preference that vessels be properly flagged in a particular State. It then examines the phenomenon of vessels without nationality, with a focus on what constitutes statelessness, and what the contemporary understanding is of the jurisdictional effect of that status. This research focuses on improving the Low Cycle Fatigue (LCF) life of Al6063 using three different processing techniques – Heat Treatment (HT), Deep Cryogenic Treatment (DCT), and Equal Channel Angular Pressing (ECAP). Al 6063, widely used in structural applications, has limited fatigue performance, necessitating the exploration of advanced processing techniques to enhance its LCF life.

In HT phase, Al 6063 T5 samples were subjected to solid solution HT followed by air and water quenching. The air-quenched (T6A) and water-quenched (T6W) samples were subjected to precipitation hardening. The Ultimate Tensile Strength (UTS) of the T6A sample increased to 188 MPa from …

History repeats itself at Vanderbilt University. In both 1960 and 2024, the university’s administration expelled students for their involvement in protests. James Lawson was a key civil rights organizer in Nashville, and Vanderbilt University expelled him from the divinity school for his leadership in sit-in protests at local lunch counters. The university also expelled three undergraduate students following their connection to pro-Palestine sit-ins at Kirkland Hall. These students are currently facing trespassing and assault charges. INTRODUCTION: High levels of stress and burnout have been identified among resident anaesthetists in UK training programmes. Factors involving clinical roles, workplace culture and training are known stressors, but in-depth research investigating how to improve wellbeing is limited.

METHODS: We used a qualitative design in two phases with participants from across the UK. Phase 1 involved semi-structured interviews of resident anaesthetists in the 2nd-5th years of training, and educational stakeholders.
