An Exploration Of How Motivations And Perceived Ability Influence An Advisor's Willingness To Give Advice, Ishani Banerji

Decision-makers frequently rely on advice from advisors, yet little is known about the factors influencing advisors' willingness to give advice (WTGA). This paper explores WTGA through three studies, investigating its relationship to advice quality, an advisor's motivations, and abilities. Our findings show that advisors frequently demonstrate a willingness to give advice even when their solution to the specific problem is incorrect, resulting in the dissemination of poor-quality advice. We find that both the helping and influence motives predict WTGA, with the helping motivation playing a more dominant role. This thesis presents the design, development, and prototyping of an active suspension system intended for high-performance racing applications, with a focus on karting. The goal of the project was to create a geometrically active suspension capable of dynamically adjusting key parameters such as camber, caster, toe, and track width in real-time to improve grip, cornering stability, and overall vehicle performance.

The team conducted extensive research into suspension theory, customer needs, and existing industry solutions before developing a mechanical platform based on a Short-Long Arm (SLA) double wishbone configuration. Using linear actuators to introduce five degrees of freedom, the system was …

The goal of this sabbatical research is to learn more about non-Western ways of knowing and learning (epistemologies) and to become a more effective culturally responsive teacher. I investigated how Indigenous Knowledge and research practices can enrich current definitions and practices of Information Literacy and integrate them into the research process. MOTIVATION: The mapping from codon to amino acid is surjective due to codon degeneracy, suggesting that codon space might harbor higher information content. Embeddings from the codon language model have recently demonstrated success in various protein downstream tasks. However, predictive models for residue-level tasks such as phosphorylation sites, arguably the most studied Post-Translational Modification (PTM), and PTM sites prediction in general, have predominantly relied on representations in amino acid space. RESULTS: We introduce a novel approach for predicting phosphorylation sites by utilizing codon-level information through embeddings from the codon adaptation language model (CaLM), trained on protein-coding DNA sequences. Harvest strategies for Western Australia’s (WA) aquatic resources are formal documents developed to support decision-making processes that ensure the outcomes are consistent with the principles of Ecologically Sustainable Development (ESD; Fletcher 2002a) and Ecosystem Based Fisheries Management (EBFM; Fletcher et al. 2012). Harvest strategies are a key component of all contemporary fishery management systems and a requirement for certification under the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC). The objectives of ESD are reflected in the objectives of the Fish Resources Management Act 1994 (FRMA).

This research project examines relational leadership as an ethical and strategic foundation for fostering effective workplaces. Motivated by the growing importance of human connection in leadership, the study integrates philosophical insights, particularly Emmanuel Levinas’s ethics of the face of the Other, with empirical evidence on workplace relationship-building. A mixed-methods approach was used, combining a structured survey of 32 professionals with thematic analysis of qualitative responses. Results confirmed that strategies such as encouraging knowledge-sharing and cultivating positive relational climates significantly enhance employee well-being, psychological safety, and organizational performance. This study critically analyzes the nexus between climate change and food insecurity in Latin America, with a particular focus on Costa Rica’s agricultural sector. It interrogates how industrial agricultural practices, deforestation, and trade liberalization have contributed to environmental degradation and heightened socio-economic vulnerabilities, especially among smallholder farmers. Through the lens of political ecology, this research situates these dynamics within the broader context of neoliberal and neo-extractivist development paradigms, which have systematically eroded food sovereignty. This study also evaluates agro-ecological responses, particularly agroforestry, as viable strategies for promoting ecological resilience and socio-economic equity. Background: Nurses routinely face threats, verbal abuse, and physical violence, yet widespread underreporting obscures the full scale of the problem, hindering efforts to address workplace culture and protect nurses.

Aim: Through leadership engagement and targeted staff education, this quality improvement project sought to increase workplace violence reporting rates on a 35-bed medical/surgical unit.

Methods: Over eight weeks, a three-phase intervention was implemented. Phase one equipped charge nurses with uniquely designed training (DIVER framework) to strengthen leadership support. Women veterans represent the fastest-growing demographic among military veterans and are increasingly pursuing higher education after their service. However, their experiences as student veterans remain underrepresented in academic research. This phenomenological study investigates how military identity influences the college experiences of women veterans enrolled in community colleges and universities in Oregon. Through in-depth interviews with women veteran students, the research explores the complex layers of identity influenced by military service, gender, and higher education.

This historiographical paper examines scholarship on Abraham Lincoln and the Emancipation Proclamation in our national reckoning with the legacies of slavery and race in American History since 1865. From 1974 to 2024, the House of Representatives initiated a total of 6 presidential and cabinet level impeachments—4 more than were brought in the Nation’s first 185 years. In the aftermath of the “gold standard” set during the Nixon impeachment inquiry, the process has experienced a steady decline in fairness and effectiveness and increase in partisanship, with the result being the weakening of our constitutional system of checks and balances.

Ethnic politics in Zambia is a function of the extent to which the petty bourgeoisie, who thrive largely on the ideology of tribalism, exercise strong hegemony over the other social classes in their respective ethnic groups. However, when other social classes challenge that hegemony, evidence from the Zambian experience shows that the pertinence of ethnicity as a political force is significantly reduced.
