This Essay presents a reflective case study on divergent leadership models in the fight for abortion access. Just as scholars study what is happening regarding abortion access, it is equally important to study how people advocate for supportive laws and policies, where they advocate, and who they center in the advocacy, so that tactics remain effective in a rapidly evolving legal, political, and social landscape. This Essay analyzes the “I Stand with Planned Parenthood” advocacy campaign of the 2000s as an example of a centralized and individual leadership model, and it identifies strategic strengths and weaknesses of that approach. The recognition and enforcement of foreign awards are governed almost universally by the United Nations Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards (the “New York Convention”). However, this recognition and enforcement necessarily invokes national judicial power. Research has indicated that historically, African Americans received disproportionate special education services (Fish, 2019; Sabnis et al., 2020; Sullivan & Osher, 2019; Watkins & Kurtz, 2001). This is specifically problematic in states and cities with smaller proportions of African Americans, such as Texas. Data indicate that the Texas Education Agency (TEA) remains non-compliant with the implementation of its Corrective Action Plan (CAP), which was issued federally by the Office of Special Education Programs due to restricting the percentage of students qualifying for special education (Morgan et al., 2023). This study aims to evaluate the engineering properties of crushed sandstone sand from the Kawkaban Member (Tawilah Group) exposed in Zigan area, northeast Sana'a city. This was accomplished through various laboratory tests that evaluated grain size, water absorption, water content, specific gravity, unit weight, and deleterious materials content on Zigan sand (ZS) and compared with standard sand (SS). The results met ASTM and AASHTO requirements for fine aggregates except the gradation. The mortar mixes were prepared by grouping the component materials by weight, using a 1:2:4 mix ratio. Cuba’s 2019 Constitution and the 2022 Law on the Process of Protection of Constitutional Rights create a mixed model of review. Accordingly, the legislature and the executive review the constitutionality of legislation and regulations, while the courts review the constitutionality of state actions. Synthesizing comparative constitutional law and new institutionalism in political science, this article argues that the mixed constitutional review in Cuba is shaped by different historical influences; competing socialist and liberal ideas and discourse; competing political interests; and competing socialist and universal values. Antitrust regulations in banking have historically targeted commercial banking activities. In the first chapter, I ask does the consolidation of investment banks have competitive effects? Using the geographically fragmented municipal bond underwriting market as a natural laboratory and employing a stacked difference-in-differences specification, I find that the underwriting spread increases by 4.8% of its sample mean following within-market consolidation. The effects double for larger M&As or in more concentrated markets and do not dissipate over time. These M&As do not generate efficiency gains that manifest as lower bond yields or substitution of other issuer-paid services. The findings remain robust when …

In this dissertation, I leverage artificial intelligence (AI) for making effective marketing decisions, specifically on how to measure the causal effects of targeting promotions and detecting suspicious retail buyers of opioids. In the first chapter, we propose a novel approach in measuring the true causal effects of targeting promotions. Targeting promotions on online platforms are often determined by AI algorithms, which utilize extensive customer and seller information to generate various algorithmic scores for targeting. Whole Genome Sequencing Identifies Monogenic Disease In 56.1% Of Families With Early-Onset Steroid-Resistant Nephrotic Syndrome, Eman Ramadan

Genetic causes of steroid-resistant-nephrotic-syndrome (SRNS) represent a rapidly growing number of monogenic diseases. The reported diagnostic yield of various studies applying genetic panels and exome-sequencing to diagnose SRNS is usually < 30%. We performed genome-sequencing in a cohort of Egyptian SRNS patients. We recruited 47 SRNS patients belonging to 41 unrelated families [28 males/19 females; median (range): 6 (0.5-22 years)]. We established a pipeline for genome sequencing, bioinformatics analysis, variant curation and protein modeling at the Egypt Center for Research and Regenerative Medicine (ECRRM). Disease-causing variants were detected in 27/47 patients (57.4%) belonging to 23/41 families (56.1%), including nine novel variants in NPHS1, NPHS2, COL4A3, MYO1E, NUP93, PLCE1, PODXL, SMARCAL1 and WT1. Novel variants were confirmed by Sanger sequencing and were segregated in families of affected patients. NPHS2 was the most common causative gene in 8/23 (34.8%) of confirmed families, followed by NPHS1, WT1, and SMARCAL1 in 2/23 families (8.7%) each. All detected missense variants were evaluated through protein modeling and were predicted deleterious. Our study expanded the spectrum of SRNS disease-causing variants and revealed a monogenic cause in 56.1% of investigated families. In our cohort, no deep intronic or regulatory variants were detected by genome-sequencing. Pursuing genetic diagnosis in SRNS patients is crucial to inform clinical decision making, genetic counseling, transplantation strategy and prenatal diagnosis thus improving clinical outcome of affected patients.

Purpose:

The purpose of this study is to provide new insights into the differences between the attractiveness drivers in different types of public procurement (i.e. efficient, technological, adapted and experimental). Design/methodology/approach This study used a qualitative multiple-case study design. The study examined eight public procurement cases by interviewing the representatives of 18 suppliers and, through cross-case analysis, formulated a framework of customer attractiveness drivers for different types of public procurement. Findings This study reveals differences in customer attractiveness drivers between efficient, technological, adapted and experimental public procurement.
