This thesis examines and analyzes the interpretation of international treaties and agreements in the legal system of the United Arab Emirates, focusing in particular on the jurisdiction granted to the Federal Supreme Court in this area. It aims to clarify the legal rulings issued in this regard, in light of the UAE Constitution and recent legislative developments, particularly Federal Decree-Law No. (33) of 2022.

Groundwater is a valuable resource in the arid climate of the United Arab Emirates, where growing population, agricultural, and industrial activities are putting increasing pressure on the limited groundwater reserves. This work investigates the hydrogeochemical characteristics of groundwater in the Fujairah region to assess water quality and potential health risks. A total of 64 groundwater samples were collected from the Eastern Shallow Aquifer (ESA) and the Ophiolite aquifer in the study area and were analyzed for physicochemical parameters, major ions, and trace metals. This study investigates the potential of lead (Pb)-tolerant actinobacteria that possess 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate deaminase (ACCD) activity and plant growth-promoting (PGP) traits to serve as a biological tool for enhancing the growth of corn (Zea mays L.) under Pb stress. The primary objective of this research was to isolate and characterize novel, Pb-tolerant, rhizosphere-competent actinobacteria and to evaluate their efficacy in mitigating Pb toxicity, reducing its uptake, and promoting biomass accumulation in corn grown in contaminated soil. A total of 43 actinobacterial isolates were obtained from Pb-contaminated rhizosphere soil and screened for Pb tolerance, rhizosphere competence, ACCD activity, and PGP traits. …

This thesis presents the development of an intelligent air hockey robot that combines precise mechanical design, computer vision, and adaptive control within an AI-based hierarchical decision architecture. The system integrates synchronized stepper motors, high-speed image processing, and a real-time decision framework to achieve competitive gameplay performance. The robot detects the puck using adaptive HSV color segmentation, supported by dynamic calibration that maintains accuracy under different lighting conditions. A two-stage trajectory prediction model, based on exponential decay velocity estimation, enables anticipation of puck motion and improves response time during fast gameplay.

Research on desistance has helped criminologists to better understand how people change their criminal identity and exercise personal choice. Yet in the UAE, these ideas has not often been applied to prisoners serving one or multiple offenses, even though incarceration and reoffending remain important social concerns. Because of this, desistance theory has not been fully used to study how rehabilitation is managed in UAE prisons, which means that some useful lessons may be missed. Using cases collected in the Sabin Center for Climate Change Law’s Climate Litigation Database, this report analyzes the 630 climate change lawsuits filed in United States courts while President Joseph R. Biden was in office. During the Biden administration, the federal government reversed course on the first Trump administration’s climate deregulation and embarked on a “whole-of-government approach to combatting the climate crisis.” Many states and municipalities pursued their own efforts to mitigate and prepare for climate change, while other states undertook climate deregulatory efforts. There is an urgent need to think differently. Colonialism, in its settler variant, has developed new and particularly dangerous strategies to advance its dual imperatives of the dispossession of Indigenous peoples and the erasure of Indigeneity as a politicized identity construct with a legitimate claim to law. This goal is advanced today through rights frameworks, which have generated a worrisome platform to support the logic of elimination by drawing Indigenous calls for autonomy, self-determination, and sovereignty into a settler colonial framework of authority. For more than a century, the American Law Institute (ALI) has developed Restatements of the Law to educate judges and the broader legal community on the most carefully reasoned common law rules articulated by courts. The judiciary’s frequent reliance on restatements has made the ALI one of the most influential private organizations in the development of American law. This Article explains that such reliance appears increasingly misplaced because the ALI has made a conscious decision in modern restatements to adopt provisions that plainly do not “restate” the law of any jurisdiction. This Article explores recent statutory interpretation disputes concerning federal firearms law, focusing on executive agency overreach and the textual limits imposed by the Gun Control Act (GCA) and the National Firearms Act (NFA). In this holdover proceeding, the landlord sought possession of a deregulated apartment after serving a non-renewal notice under RPL 226-c. The landlord moved for use and occupancy. The tenant cross-moved for leave to amend their answer and for summary judgment, arguing the landlord failed to serve the predicate notice. The court granted the tenant's motions, deeming the amended answer served and dismissing the proceeding without prejudice. The court found no affidavit of service of the predicate notice in the record, a statutory requirement and condition precedent for maintaining the holdover, thus denying the landlord's motion as moot.

Justice Thurgood Marshall argued, “There is certainly nothing irrational—indeed, there is nothing novel—about the idea of mitigating a death sentence because of lingering doubts as to guilt.” For the first time in the history of the United States, polling shows a majority of Americans prefer life in prison over a sentence of capital punishment. Capital punishment is a hotly debated national issue—recent polling shows 60% of Americans prefer a sentence of life in prison without parole when compared to the death penalty.

This article addresses the recent BIA decision in Matter of K-E-S-G-, which held that a social group defined by sex and nationality fails to meet the definition of a particular social group eligible for relief under U.S. asylum law. The article argues that while the issue of gender-based persecution is widespread, victims of such harm are united by a unique form of suffering and immutable characteristics. To offer an example of the distinct effects of gender-based persecution, the article highlights women in Eurasia who have been subject to forced marriages.

The Lee-Huang-Yang (LHY) energy correction at the edge of the mean-field stability regime is known to give rise to beyond mean-field structures in a wide variety of systems. In this work, we analytically derive the LHY energy for two-, three-and four-component one-dimensional bosonic short-range interacting mixtures across the mean-field stability regime. For varying intercomponent attraction in the two-component setting, quantitative deviations from the original LHY treatment emerge being imprinted in the droplet saturation density and width. On the other hand, for repulsive interactions an unseen early onset of phase-separation occurs for both homonuclear and heteronuclear mixtures. Closed LHY expressions for …

This thesis examines the relationship between cultural identity, political imagination, and constitutional design in the Kachin context, focusing on the strong preference for presidentialism among political thinkers and interim constitution drafters. Rooted in traditions of armed resistance, charismatic leadership, and the desire for visible sovereignty, presidentialism is widely viewed as the most viable executive model for a post-conflict Kachin future. Yet this preference is often shaped more by symbolic ideals than by a clear understanding of the structural demands of democratic governance.
