External Resistance Changes The Rotation-Extension Strategy In Accelerated Running, Marvin Zedler, Martin Pinter, Wolfgang Potthast, Bjoern Braunstein, Jan-Peter Goldmann Nov 2025

External Resistance Changes The Rotation-Extension Strategy In Accelerated Running, Marvin Zedler, Martin Pinter, Wolfgang Potthast, Bjoern Braunstein, Jan-Peter Goldmann

ISBS Proceedings Archive

This study aimed to investigate the effect of external resistance on running mechanics by comparing unresisted and resisted acceleration tasks. Fourteen elite bobsleigh athletes performed unresisted (bodyweight) and resisted sprints by pushing a loaded sled (85 kg). Ground reaction forces as well as 3D marker trajectories were recorded for five ground contact phases to quantify whole-body posture and rotational and extensional components of forward centre of mass velocity. Resisted acceleration provoked more forward oriented postures (p < .001), and higher extensional velocity components (p < .001) compared to unresisted. Accordingly, the strategy to produce propulsion shifted from rotation to extension in the presence of an external mass. Resisted acceleration exercises are therefore appropriate to stress the extensional component to produce propulsion.

Comparison Of Thorax And Pelvis Motion During Iron Club Golf Swing Between Female And Male Skilled Golfers, Karolina Kanova, Jiri Skypala, Pavel Brtva, Roman Farana Nov 2025

Comparison Of Thorax And Pelvis Motion During Iron Club Golf Swing Between Female And Male Skilled Golfers, Karolina Kanova, Jiri Skypala, Pavel Brtva, Roman Farana

ISBS Proceedings Archive

This study compared thorax and pelvis biomechanics in male and female golfers using an iron club, analysing eight skilled golfers (4 female, 4 male) with over 10 years of experience and a handicap below 10. The aim was to compare the biomechanics and movement variability of thorax and pelvis motion during the golf swing between genders. Biomechanical analysis was conducted using a combination of marker-based and markerless motion capture systems, focusing on the downswing. Results showed gender- based differences in 3D angular displacement, with significant movement variability in pelvic lateral tilt across all downswing phases (top of backswing, mid-downswing, and …

ISBS Proceedings Archive

Aim: This scoping review systematically maps current trends in artificial intelligence applications for sports biomechanical analysis, examining performance enhancement and injury prevention utility, methodological approaches, implementation challenges, and ethical considerations. Methods: A comprehensive analysis synthesized evidence on AI methodologies applied to sports biomechanics across various contexts, including machine learning, neural networks, and deep learning approaches integrated with learning management systems. This review examined data collection modes, analytical approaches, and practical implementation in laboratory and field settings. Results: AI applications evolved from basic statistical modeling to sophisticated machine learning configurations, demonstrating superior performance in technique analysis (94% agreement with international judges), …

Encapsulation Of Corrosion Inhibitors: Methods, Preparation, And Emerging Applications, Mahdi M. Hanoon, Baha. S. Mahdi Nov 2025

Encapsulation Of Corrosion Inhibitors: Methods, Preparation, And Emerging Applications, Mahdi M. Hanoon, Baha. S. Mahdi

AUIQ Technical Engineering Science

Corrosion remains a critical global challenge, imposing substantial economic, safety, and environmental burdens across infrastructure, transportation, marine, and energy sectors. Traditional corrosion inhibitors, while effective, suffer from rapid depletion, uncontrolled release, environmental risks, and limited long-term stability. Encapsulation of corrosion inhibitors has emerged as a transformative strategy, enabling controlled and stimuli-responsive release, improved stability, and self-healing capabilities. This mini review provides a comprehensive overview of encapsulation technologies, including polymeric microcapsules, inorganic carriers, hybrid systems, and advanced nanoengineering approaches. Preparation methods, ranging from physical and chemical routes to emerging microfluidic and electrospinning techniques, are critically examined. Furthermore, the article highlights state-of-the-art …

The Relationship Between Sex Guilt And Sex Anxiety On Sexual Function In Sexually Active Adult Women, Mia Audina Olivia, Ahmad Naufalul Umam Nov 2025

The Relationship Between Sex Guilt And Sex Anxiety On Sexual Function In Sexually Active Adult Women, Mia Audina Olivia, Ahmad Naufalul Umam

Papers from the International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology Conferences

Sexuality is a deeply ingrained aspect of human identity and experience, and its importance can vary greatly from person to person and across different cultures and contexts. There is a widely accepted perspective in sexual behavior research that western women have more flexible sexual norms and thus function better than women from eastern cultural background. Meanwhile, research in eastern countries often only focused on health matters and bounded to abstinence-centred moral value. This study addresses this gap by investigating the intricate relationship between sex guilt, sex anxiety, and sexual function among sexually active adult women in Indonesia. A sample of …

Factors Influencing Flourishing In Autoimmune Patients: A Systematic Review, Amherstia Pasca Rina, Endang R. Surjaningrum Nov 2025

Factors Influencing Flourishing In Autoimmune Patients: A Systematic Review, Amherstia Pasca Rina, Endang R. Surjaningrum

Papers from the International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology Conferences

This scoping literature review aimed to identify factors that influence flourishing and to synthesize gaps in previous studies that flourishing is not only influenced by the internal factor but how the social conditions individuals live in can also affect flourishing. Autoimmune diseases are incurable and associated with mental health conditions that can exacerbate the intensity of recurrence, so it is necessary to take protective measures, namely flourishing as a form of behavioral management of chronic diseases. The prevalence of autoimmune patients who are declared flourishing is relatively small, but flourishing is actually a psychological concept that is needed by everyone …

It Takes A Village . . . But Let The Teenagers Vote, Joseph Fishkin Nov 2025

It Takes A Village . . . But Let The Teenagers Vote, Joseph Fishkin

Notre Dame Law Review

In their article Give Parents the Vote, Kleinfeld and Sachs argue that we ought to give parents extra votes to cast by proxy on behalf of their minor children. In this response, I argue that their proposal misconceives the nature of voting itself. Unlike a child’s personal medical or financial decisions, which we entrust to those most responsible for a child’s care, voting is a collective act by which a political community makes collective choices. Each of us is obligated to cast our vote in the way we think best for the whole community. And each voter—whether a parent …

Does The Law Ever Run Out?, Charles F. Capps Nov 2025

Does The Law Ever Run Out?, Charles F. Capps

Notre Dame Law Review

Although laypeople commonly believe that a judge’s job is to decide every case as the law requires, a broad consensus exists among legal scholars that the law not infrequently “runs out,” leaving the judge to decide the case on extralegal grounds. This Article subjects that consensus to critical scrutiny. Tentatively, the Article concludes that none of the alleged sources of indeterminacy in the law—including permissive rules, balancing tests, vagueness, ambiguity, silence, contradictions, and uncertainty—actually causes the law to run out. More confidently, the Article maintains that the extent to which the law runs out, if it does at all, depends …
