Weather Shocks And Sectoral Labour Reallocation: Evidence From The European Regions, Federico Zilia, Paolo Nota, Alessandro Olper

This paper examines how weather variability influences inter-sectoral labour reallocation and sectoral value-added (GVA) growth across 238 European regional units (NUTS2 level) from 1980 to 2022. Leveraging this large and granular dataset, we employ flexible functional forms within a fixed-effects panel framework, where the impact of weather shocks is conditional on long-term climate. Unlike previous empirical research in climate economics, which primarily focused on inter-annual variations in average temperature, this study emphasizes the significant role of daily temperature variability. Temperature variability is particularly critical in warmer regions with low seasonal variability, which are more vulnerable to sudden temperature shifts or …

This thesis investigates several arithmetic and algebraic properties of polynomials, with a particular emphasis on irreducibility, monogenity, and the behaviour of iterated polynomial sequences. We first study truncated binomial polynomials over the rationals and establish new affirmative results concerning their irreducibility. A substantial part of the work develops a detailed analysis of Newton polygons under polynomial composition. These structural insights yield broad applications, including criteria for stability and eventual stability of large families of polynomials, as well as precise information about the degrees and number of irreducible factors appearing in their iterates. This dissertation explores the art songs of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky through the lens of his queer sexuality by offering performers interpretive strategies that focus on themes of desire, repression, identity, intimacy, and longing. By placing these songs within both their 19th-century cultural context and contemporary queer discourse, the project shows how Tchaikovsky’s musical choices could be interpreted as code of his emotionality and experiences as a queer person. Through historical context, letters, and analyses of selected songs, performers can draw upon layered meanings in choices of phrasing, acting, and staging. Measuring Human Ability To Detect Emotional Energies In Transpersonal Fields Of Consciousness, Carol Richardson Phd, Mdiv, Mph

This research presents original data from an online research survey with 111 respondents regarding their ability to detect emotional energies in transpersonal fields of consciousness in crowds and dyads. The data show that a majority of respondents, from 90% to 96.4%, reported experiencing different emotions “in the air,” such as excitement, tension, anxiety, anger, and love. Personal data responses include age, gender or gender identity, and worldview. Examples of possible worldviews include: “scientific, not religious, not spiritual”; “spiritual and scientific”; “religious”; and “religious and scientific.” Respondents were given two free-answer essay options: one in which they could describe their personal …

Parents in recovery from substance abuse rely on social support and programs to maintain their sobriety consistently. However, specific programs crucial for their social and mental well-being, such as most 12-step groups and recovery centers, were shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite some research on the impact of substance abuse during the pandemic, little attention has been given to sustained recovery. Therefore, the purpose of this descriptive qualitative study was to explore how parents maintained recovery from substance use amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The rapid digital transformation of the food-away-from-home (FAFH) sector has redefined how consumers access and select meals. Digital delivery platforms such as Uber Eats, Deliveroo, and Meituan have become influential market intermediaries, shaping the nutritional landscape of food environments and raising concerns about their healthfulness. This study reviews empirical evidence on policy-based and industry-led interventions aimed at improving dietary outcomes in digital FAFH environments. Following PRISMA guidelines and using machine-learning–assisted screening (ASReview), 37 peer-reviewed studies were identified across four domains: nutritional labeling, fiscal measures, food-assistance programs, and digital nudges or decision-support tools. Providencia rettgeri is a Gram-negative bacterium, rarely reported as a cause of diabetic wound infections. Its frequent resistance to β-lactams and carbapenems limits treatment options, especially in immunocompromised patients. We present the case of a 59-year-old unhoused male living with diabetes, peripheral artery disease, and prior bilateral transmetatarsal amputations who presented with a University of Texas 3B diabetic foot ulcer. Magnetic resonance imaging showed osteomyelitis of metatarsals 2–4, and bone biopsy grew Providencia rettgeri and Proteus mirabilis. The patient declined further surgery and was treated with 6 weeks of cefepime and metronidazole, with outpatient wound care, achieving wound closure …

Gliomas represent a heterogenous group of primary brain tumors with overlapping imaging phenotypes. Treatment typically includes surgery and/or chemoradiation, however this varies based on the overall lesion and clinical presentation. This heterogeneity in both lesion characteristics and management strategies contributes to a lack of reliable findings when evaluating treatment outcomes with conventional MRI. The overlapping imaging features of radiation necrosis and tumor progression post-treatment can be particularly challenging for radiologists. We present a dataset of 203 glioma patients with 594 post-treatment timepoints of relevant clinical history and routine T1, T1 postcontrast, T2, and FLAIR weighted MR sequences. A growing number of contemporary film critics, influencers, and audiences criticize film remaking, a tested and successful Hollywood practice. The main complaints are a lack of originality, overreliance on repeated titles, and an openly commercial nature. Despite criticism, film remakes have existed for decades and are a vivid and resilient form of recycling under new cultural and geopolitical circumstances. The purpose of this study was to examine the continued rise of violent police encounters between urban police and urban citizens. This study explores pre-service teachers' perceptions of university culture, their beliefs regarding academic self-efficacy, and their engagement in self-handicapping behaviors, as well as the interrelationships among these variables. A questionnaire was administered to a sample of 251 pre-service teachers selected through an appropriate sampling method. In addition to descriptive statistical analyses, correlation and regression analyses were conducted.

The findings indicate that pre-service teachers predominantly perceive university culture as hierarchical, exhibit high academic self-efficacy beliefs, and demonstrate minimal self-handicapping behaviors. Furthermore, both university culture and academic self-efficacy beliefs were found to be negatively correlated with self-handicapping behaviors. Notably, only the university's …

This paper examines the issue of partisan polarization in U.S. county-level presidential voting. Although the extant literature that addresses partisan sorting and/or polarization is extensive and growing, the literature is not without controversies. Our paper investigates the sequence and timing of shifts in partisan vote shares at the county level from 1932 through 2020, with a focused review of the dynamics of partisan shifts in southern states. While some scholars of southern politics conclude that the South generally follows national trends, other scholars suggest the opposite—that the nation follows the South.
