Serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are commonly prescribed to pregnant women experiencing depression. Such drugs, however, might adversely affect placenta and fetal brain development. Parietal trophoblast giant cells (pTGCs) in the mouse placenta are postulated to internalize maternal serotonin (5-HT) via transport through SERT, encoded by Slc6a4, and to provide the initial source of 5-HT to the emerging brain via the placental–brain axis. Genetic deletion of Slc6a4 in pTGCs has been hypothesized to impact placental and fetal brain development. Secure multiparty computation (MPC) enables multiple participants to jointly compute functions over their private inputs without revealing them. Classical threshold based protocols, such as the BGW protocol, perform computations on scalar values using (k,n)-threshold secret sharing. While these protocols provide strong security guarantees, they become computationally expensive when applied to large matrices or multiple secret values. In this work, we investigate the use of ramp schemes, secret sharing schemes that encode sets of secrets with a trade-off between privacy and efficiency, to generalize BGW computations. Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD) represented an escalating public health challenge, profoundly affecting individuals, families, and healthcare systems. As the number of individuals diagnosed with ADRD rises, the prevalence of caregiver burden and burnout among those providing care also increases. The purpose of this quality improvement project was to evaluate the existing assessment processes for caregiver burnout and determine the effectiveness of the Zarit Burden Interview (ZBI), a measurement which identifies caregivers’ levels of stress, at a memory disorder center in south Florida. From Fruit To Nut: Revisiting Pili Nut (Canarium Ovatum Engl.) Production Capacities And Value-Adding Activities In Sorsogon, Philippines, Joey Richard V. Dio, Ryan V. Dio, Dulce Corazon F. Lacson

The value chain of agricultural products significantly influences their profitability and socio-economic contribution. This study developed a descriptive model of the pili (Canarium ovatum Engl.) nut value chain in Sorsogon, the primary producer in the Philippines, and the only province with large-scale commercial operations. Using a descriptive research approach, data were collected through purposive interviews with 15 key informants—farmers, processors, and traders—guided by Porter’s value-chain framework. Results indicate that Sorsogon produces about 3 times the quantity required daily (< 2,233 kg) by Bicol-based processors, leading to underutilization and post-harvest losses attributed to limited storage facilities and market linkages. The processing stage, which converts pili fruits into nuts and kernels, demonstrates the highest operational efficiency, while the trading stage remains constrained by limited market access. Stakeholders often perform overlapping functions, and traditional sun-drying methods remain common. Furthermore, an aging farming population, limited succession planning, and inconsistent implementation of food safety standards continue to pose challenges to industry growth. These inefficiencies result in reduced profitability and restrict expansion. Strengthening the value chain through improved processing systems, broader market integration, and streamlined production activities is necessary to enhance economic returns and support the sustainable growth of Sorsogon’s pili nut industry.

Dynamic Causal Modeling (DCM) provides a principled framework for estimating effective connectivity in neuroimaging data, with Parametric Empirical Bayes (PEB) enabling hierarchical inference across sessions and subjects. However, standard PEB assumes Gaussian distributions at all hierarchical levels and employs conventional shrinkage priors that do not enforce true sparsity, limiting robustness to outlying subjects and reducing sensitivity to parsimonious connectivity structures. This thesis introduces a robust, sparsity-inducing hierarchical extension to DCM-PEB that addresses these limitations through two key innovations. The purpose of this study was to examine representations of older and younger women in four horror films: The Leech Woman (1960), The Shining (1980), The Witch (2015), and The Substance (2024). Regarding horror film narratives, research suggests aged women are often depicted as wicked and lacking mental faculties, while young women with idealized and privileged body types are often fetishized. According to Creed (2023), these harmful, oppressive depictions are informed by male anxieties about women in patriarchy. Each year, an estimated 795,000 people in the U.S. suffer a stroke, with approximately 610,000 being first-time cases. Of these, 87% are ischemic strokes, while the remaining 13% are hemorrhagic. Current imaging methods, such as Computed Tomography (CT), Positron Emission Tomography (PET), and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), provide useful information into brain tissue properties; while each technique has its advantages, they remain expensive, non-portable, and often too slow for emergency bedside or in-ambulance use. This thesis investigates the deformation behavior of commercially pure titanium (CP–Ti) undercyclic bending under tension (CBT) through integrated experiments and multiscale modeling. Cyclic bending produces alternating tension and compression through the sheet thickness, delaying localization and enhancing ductility. Digital image correlation (DIC) measurements were used to quantify strain-path evolution and elongation-to-fracture (ETF). Finite-element simulations employing a continuum J2 plasticity model captured the macroscopic load–displacement response and width-dependent transition from uniaxial to plane-strain deformation. Background: The emergent reversal of anticoagulation in the setting of intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) is critical, and it is essential that comprehensive stroke centers adhere to the American Heart Association (AHA) metrics for door-to-reversal within the designated 90 minutes. The objective of this review is to evaluate individuals classified as stroke alert priority 1 and non-stroke alert and compare AHA metrics for door-to-reversal times and clinical outcomes when diagnosed with ICH.

Assistive technology (AT) is essential for supporting access, independence, and learning among students with visual impairments. Teachers of students with visual impairments (TSVIs) are expected to integrate AT into instruction and ensure their students are prepared for academic, social, and workforce demands. The original list of 111 AT competencies for preservice TSVIs, developed by Smith et al. (2009), provided an important foundation but has not been revised despite significant technological advances over the past decade. An experimental continuous-wave (cw) pump-probe scheme is demonstrated by investigating the population and photoionization dynamics of an atomic system. In particular, 6Li atoms are initially prepared in optically pumped 22S1/2 and 22P3/2 states before being excited via multi-photon absorption from a tunable femtosecond laser. The subsequent cascade back to the ground state is analyzed by ionizing the atoms in the field of a cw optical dipole trap laser. Conventional spectroscopic methods, such as standard cold-target recoil ion momentum spectroscopy or velocity map imaging, cannot provide simultaneous momentum and time-resolved information on an event-by-event basis for the system investigated here. The Act permits criminal defendants to introduce evidence that they are survivors of family violence, sexual abuse, or related trauma in support of a justification defense. It amends various Code sections to provide for the admissibility of such evidence, clarify the applicability of justification defenses, and establish evidentiary standards. The Act also creates privilege protections for communications made between victims and their abuser, provides civil immunity for facilitators of those dialogues, and imposes a uniform oath requirement for peace officers statewide.

The Act prohibits the use of state funds or resources to provide genderaffirming medical care to incarcerated individuals. It bans funding for sex reassignment surgeries, hormone replacement therapy, and any cosmetic or prosthetic procedures intended to alter an inmate’s primary or secondary sex characteristics. The bill includes limited exceptions, such as treatments for individuals with intersex conditions or those requiring continued hormone therapy that began prior to incarceration and is continued only for tapering purposes. The Georgia Department of Corrections is tasked with creating rules to govern these exceptions.

The Act supplements the protection of religious exercise by requiring government actions that could burden religious practices to meet a “compelling interest” test, mirroring a federal counterpart bill from 1993. The Act creates a cause of action against the state government for substantially burdening a person’s free exercise of religion without a compelling interest. The government must now clear this high legal standard before it may legally enforce laws or actions that substantially burden someone’s religious beliefs.
