The COVID-19 pandemic caused widespread disruption to K–12 education, with middle school mathematics among the most adversely affected subject areas. While prior research has documented pandemic-related learning loss, less is known about how recovery occurred in districts where mathematics performance rebounded. The purpose of this basic qualitative study was to explore middle school mathematics teachers’ perceptions of factors influencing post-pandemic academic recovery in selected Illinois public school districts that demonstrated high levels of mathematics recovery. Guided by Bronfenbrenner’s Bioecological Theory, this study examined how classroom, school, family, and district contexts shaped students’ recovery experiences. This paper presents a non-technical introduction to three economic tools that have in recent years become widespread in competition law enforcement in general and in the analysis of proposed mergers in particular: critical loss analysis, upward pricing pressure, and the vertical arithmetic. In addition, for each tool, its use in a recent U.S. merger case is illustrated: for critical loss analysis, the Novelis/Aleris merger; for upward pricing pressure, the GE/Electrolux merger; and for the vertical arithmetic, the Comcast/NBCU joint venture.

Dawn raids remain a cornerstone of competition law enforcement, yet their execution has grown complex in the digital era. Messaging platforms and remote devices increase the risk of on-site deletions, prompting authorities in Türkiye and the EU to adopt a strict-liability stance: any deletion after inspections begin is treated as obstruction per se, regardless of intent, recoverability or probative loss. While this maximises deterrence, it raises concerns of proportionality, privacy and legal certainty. This article argues that enforcement can remain effective and proportionate by shifting towards a harm-sensitive model. Drawing on Turkish and EU decisions, it highlights outlier cases in …

Despite extensive scholarship on relational trust, social capital, place-based leadership, and culturally responsive practice, little is known about how a principal’s residency within the school community shapes leadership demands. This qualitative, multi-case study employed semi-structured interviews, reflexive memoing, and cross-case thematic analysis to examine how nine Minnesota high school principals who lived in the urban, suburban, and rural communities they served experienced leadership practice, equity work, and emotional labor. Findings revealed that residency functions as a consequential leadership condition that reorganizes how principals build trust, exercise judgment, engage families, navigate boundaries, and interpret equity-related tensions. As a racialized group that is subject to discrimination, US Latinxs are often considered “natural” coalitional partners for Black-led civil rights struggles. Although the BLM movement may serve as a potential site for cross-racial coalition building because both Latinxs and Blacks suffer from racial profiling by law enforcement, the development of a shared status across group boundaries hinges on the interpretation by Latinxs of both their personal- and group-level discrimination experiences. This staff education project addressed a practice gap in a psychiatric facility where nonclinical staff frequently submitted incomplete referral documentation for patients with co-occurring medical and psychiatric conditions. Due to the facility’s inability to provide acute medical stabilization, medical clearance is required before nurse practitioners can determine admission appropriateness. The project question was, Does educating intake staff on a standardized referral checklist improve knowledge of referral criteria, as measured by pre- and post-education surveys? The Johns Hopkins evidence-based practice (JHEBP) model informed evidence translation, and the analysis, design/development, implementation, and evaluation (ADDIE) instructional design model underpinned the development and evaluation …
