Numerals And Other Means Of Expressing Plurality In Language And Thought: A Developmental Perspective Across Cultures., Giovanni Giuseppe G.G. Nicosia Prof.

Numeracy

Several ancient languages use linguistic structures to differentiate between singular, dual, and plural forms that are used when one, two, or many objects are referenced. (Some languages go further, adding a trial form to differentiate two from three.) In many modern languages, numerals are used to convey precise number. After reviewing a range of ways languages express number (including the interesting case of Pirahã which does not express precise number), the paper concludes with a proposed developmental path for the expression of quantity in languages.

Social Studies Teacher Perceptions Of The Effectiveness Of Professional Development To Support The Facilitation Of Controversial Conversations, Kristen Mast

Doctorate in Education

Funding and support for social studies instruction have dwindled in most public schools in the United States over the past two decades, leaving social studies teachers without high-quality curriculum materials and professional development opportunities. In a time when the political divide in the United States continues to increase, these skills can help strengthen American democracy in the long term. This study investigated professional development as a possible pathway to improve the facilitation …

Effects Of Burnout And Resilience On Turnover Intention In Long-Term Care Nurses Post-Covid, Rosemary Fromer, Rhonda Oldham, Hannah G. Callaway

Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)

Nurses constitute the most significant proportion of the healthcare workforce providing care for residents in long-term care (LTC) facilities (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2023, July). The number of licensed practical or vocational nurses who typically care for the most vulnerable populations in LTC has declined by 33,811 since the pandemic (Martin et al., 2023; National Council of State Boards of Nursing, 2023, April 13). LTC patients and staff accounted for 23% of COVID-19-related deaths in the United States (Chidambaram, 2022, February 3). A cross-sectional study conducted by Aiken et al. (2023) at magnet hospitals in the United States …
