Representation Of Adults Over 75 Years Old In Dialysis Outcome Studies: Implications For Generalizability, Anand Thakkar, Priyesh Thakkar

Background: End-stage renal disease (ESRD) disproportionately affects older adults, with the incidence rate of patients aged ≥75 increasing and representing a growing segment of the dialysis population. However, many trials and cohort studies either underrepresent very elderly patients, particularly those with frailty or multiple comorbidities, or do not explicitly analyze outcomes in this age group. This raises questions about the applicability of research evidence to the patients most commonly encountered in clinical practice.

Objective: To evaluate how adults aged 75 and older are represented in dialysis outcome studies and to summarize survival and quality-of-life evidence relevant to this group.

Endometrial cancer is one of the most common gynecologic malignancies in women. It originates from the innermost lining of the uterus called the endometrium and is classified into either type 1, which is most common, or type 2. Type 1 comprises endometrial cancers of endometrioid origin while type 2 includes non-endometrioid origin including serous or clear cell. Risk factors contributing to type 1 involve unopposed estrogen exposure such as obesity, exogenous estrogen, estrogen-secreting tumors, chronic anovulation, tamoxifen therapy, early menarche, and late menopause. Acute monocular vision loss is a medical emergency that requires prompt work-up to identify the cause. The etiologies of vision loss are broad including vascular, inflammatory, thromboembolic, and neural pathologies. Here we present the curious case of a 57-year-old male with a history of HTN, CAD, prior CVA and T2DM who was admitted to the medicine floor for a recurrent transient vision loss in his right eye for the past 18-months. Background: Neurological disorders represent a growing global public health burden, ranking as the leading cause of disability and second leading cause of death worldwide. Despite extensive national and global data, community-level neuroepidemiological evidence remains sparse, limiting equitable resource allocation and targeted intervention. Colquitt County, Georgia, a predominantly rural county with a population of approximately 47,000 and a significant aging demographic, represents an understudied community where the local burden of neurological disorders has not been previously characterised. This study aimed to determine the prevalence, distribution, and clinical burden of neurological disorders using hospital-based data from Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

Animal bites, particularly those from cats and dogs, are well characterized in emergency and surgical care. Equine animal bites, however, are rare and may be underestimated in severity. The genus Equus includes animals such as horses, donkeys, and zebras, with members sharing similar dental and digestive anatomy as well as comparable musculoskeletal traits. These animals generate significant crushing forces, often causing deep soft-tissue injury, devitalization, and extensive contamination with complex oral flora. For surgeons, such wounds present challenges in assessment, irrigation, debridement, and closure, as well as antimicrobial selection to prevent infection. Introduction: Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is the most common type of adult kidney cancer. It originates in the lining of the renal tubules and typically affects older individuals. Symptoms can manifest as blood in urine, flank pain, and weight loss. Lab values include, but are not limited to, anemia, polycythemia, thrombocytosis, leukocytosis, high creatinine/BUN, and hypercalcemia. Although rare, RCC has the potential to invade the venous system and extend into the heart causing subsequent bilateral pulmonary embolism (PE). Bacterial viruses, called bacteriophages, constitute a major threat to bacteria, driving a vast evolutionary arms race three billion years in the making. Out of this arms race bacteria have developed numerous types of bacterial immune systems varying in levels of complexity. The most notable bacterial immune system, CRISPR-Cas, is a suite of bacterial proteins which have enabled life-saving technologies through gene-editing and revolutionized biological research. CRISPR is only one of hundreds of anti-phage immune systems, most of which remain undiscovered. Since antimicrobial resistance in bacterial pathogens is rising, one solution to the crisis is using phages to kill pathogenic bacteria. …

Background: Research indicates that adolescents frequently exhibit overconfidence in their knowledge and abilities, often overestimating their actual competence. This overconfidence poses significant risks in legal contexts, where misunderstanding one's civil rights can lead to inadvertent waiver of legal protections and increased legal jeopardy. Miranda warnings, constitutional rights recited during arrest, conclude with officers asking suspects to confirm their understanding. Overconfident adolescents may affirm comprehension despite lacking genuine understanding of these critical protections.

Objective: This study examined the relationship between adolescents' self-rated confidence in understanding Miranda rights and their actual comprehension of Miranda warnings.

Invection is the title of a prototype game I’ve been building within the Unity game engine to explore the implementation of visual effects (VFX). In this presentation I will discuss how I’ve developed Invection and the challenges I’ve learned from when creating a cohesive visual style for the game. Invection uses several outside software, such as Blender and Touchdesigner, and built-in rendering frameworks within the Unity Technologies engine to develop lighting and environmental effects. These effects are linked to the aesthetic quality of the game, and use worldbuilding to communicate to the player a sense of danger and unease. Compared …

The data of this study were taken from the undergraduate students’ research ar ticles of English Department at State University of Malang and analyzed based on the taxonomy of Hyland (1998a) and Hinkel (2005). This sociocultural linguistic study aimed investigating the teachers' identity representation in their classroom interactions. This study was conducted by considering the significant roles the teachers played in orchestrating classroom activities which involved the accumulation of the teachers' efforts, values and beliefs. The findings revealed that the teachers exposed their identity in different ways for both different roles and local positioning which were culturally, socially, politically, and religiously constructed. The teachers also perceived their identity which could be clustered into four broad areas which showed their understanding and the significant functions of their identity representation. Chronic low back pain (CLBP) is a leading cause of disability worldwide, with increasing evidence implicating neuromuscular factors such as muscle asymmetry in its pathophysiology. The psoas major muscle (PMM), a key contributor to lumbar spine stability, has been comparatively under-investigated despite its biomechanical importance. Manuscripts have long been analyzed for how they circulated alongside traditionally published texts, with scholars taking an interest in both the content and material form of such documents. In a print-centric era like the early nineteenth century, the surplus of published writing was sometimes framed as impersonal and generic. When a layperson uses ChatGPT to obtain feedback on a legal matter, attorney-client privilege may not apply, as ChatGPT is not a lawyer, much less a human. Further, while lawyers are entitled to protection for their opinion work-product, it is not clear whether self-represented litigants are entitled to the same protection. This study examines the wrongful conviction of Anthony Hinton and other examples that illustrate the causes of wrongful convictions in the United States and the effects that wrongful convictions have on the wrongfully accused and their families. This study uses research from scholarly articles and legal cases to analyze the factors that contribute to wrongful convictions and the impact on the wrongfully accused and their families. This research examines how formative experiences inform the formation of entrepreneurial beliefs and how those beliefs relate to a practitioner-informed understanding of entrepreneurial success. Using a mixed-methods design, the study began with semi-structured interviews with 25 experienced entrepreneurs. Participants reflected on how they define entrepreneurial success and which formative experiences they associate with achieving it. Inductive thematic analysis produced a practitioner-informed definition of entrepreneurial success and identified twelve formative experiences connected to entrepreneurial development. A subsequent two-round Delphi study engaged these expert participants to further examine the relative importance of the identified experiences and to provide insight into which formative …
