Connectivity And Tourism Flow In Small Island Developing States, Edmir Luciano Dos Santos Ferreira, João Paulo Madeira Mar 2026

Connectivity And Tourism Flow In Small Island Developing States, Edmir Luciano Dos Santos Ferreira, João Paulo Madeira

International Journal of Islands Research

Tourism in Small Island Developing States (SIDS) faces unique sustainability challenges, with connectivity emerging as a critical factor. These nations, often situated in remote locations, encounter significant accessibility constraints and limited infrastructure, which restrict tourist flows and adversely affect economic development. The primary aim of this paper is to analyse the relationship between connectivity and tourism flows in SIDS, exploring how connectivity, proxied by geographical and cultural-political distance, influences tourism in these regions. Furthermore, the study seeks to determine whether belonging to different SIDS regions or exhibiting varying levels of development helps destinations attract greater tourist flows, by examining several …

Chulalongkorn Medical Journal

Cardio-cerebral infarction (CCI), the simultaneous occurrence of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and acute myocardial infarction (AMI), is a rare and life-threatening emergency. Management becomes even more challenging when accompanied by metabolic complications like diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). We report a case of a 45-year-old man with hypertension and a chronic smoking history, found unresponsive with right-sided hemiparesis. He was last seen well six hours before arrival. On examination, he was hypertensive, tachypneic, had a ketotic breath odor, GCS 12, and NIHSS 15. Laboratory results confirmed DKA, with a random blood glucose of 412 mg/dL and metabolic acidosis. Non-contrast brain CT revealed …

Malignant Transformation Of Giant Epidermal Cyst In The Gluteal Region - A Case Report, Xin Zen Ong Dr., Wan Mokhzani Wan Mokhter Mr., Jing Wen Loh Mr., Ruhana Amirah Abdul Halim Dr.

Chulalongkorn Medical Journal

Epidermal cyst is a very common cutaneous lesion. Giant epidermal cyst is defined by its size of more than 5 cm in diameter. Buttock is an unusual site for epidermal cyst. Malignant transformation of epidermal cyst is an exceedingly rare phenomenon. Clinicians should be vigilant of such entity especially in giant epidermal cyst despite a seemingly benign imaging finding. Long term outcome of surgery for such tumor remains an uncertainty.

Lowering Of The Lowered: The ‘Spectacular’ Construction Of ‘Humiliation’ In The Indian Prevention Of Atrocities Act 1989, Ashna Singh Mar 2026

Lowering Of The Lowered: The ‘Spectacular’ Construction Of ‘Humiliation’ In The Indian Prevention Of Atrocities Act 1989, Ashna Singh

National Law School of India Review

The Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 is the only law in India that explicitly recognises caste-based insults or hate speech as an offence. In doing so, it captures the distinctive harm of such speech as humiliation. This article focuses on Section 3(1)(r) of the Act and argues that this recognition is significantly qualified by the “public view” requirement. Drawing on socio-political scholarship on humiliation, I show that judicial interpretation of this requirement has produced an extra-legislative condition of spectacularity. Courts tend to read caste-based humiliation through the paradigm of visible, overt, and collective atrocity, …

The Role of Wait Time Disclosures in Public Housing: Evidence from Seattle: This paper studies how providing wait time information affects applicant choices and allocation outcomes in a public housing allocation mechanism, where applicants choose their preferred communities and receive housing units on a first-come, first-served basis. Under such a mechanism, applicants' choices depend on their preferences and subjective beliefs about expected wait times for each community. Using administrative data from the Seattle Housing Authority, I study the effect of its disclosure of Historical Wait Time (HWT) information, which is provided as a discrete HWT signal for each community, such …

Child Welfare Upholds Black Family Separation While Denying Essential Constitutional Protections, Samantha Nichol Mar 2026

Child Welfare Upholds Black Family Separation While Denying Essential Constitutional Protections, Samantha Nichol

UC Law Journal of Race and Economic Justice

This note examines the refusal to expand constitutional protections to include proceedings concerning child welfare. A system that largely mirrors and works in tandem with the criminal system, which enjoys robust constitutional safeguards. Important to the analysis of the rejection of these protections is an acknowledgement that child welfare, or welfare more broadly, is a system that upholds racial power structures and a tradition of family separation. Just as the overincarceration of Black people has been acknowledged by legal scholars to be a particular badge and incident of slavery, the child welfare system should also be critiqued as a system …

The Private Prison Problem: Finding Pathways To Justice In HawaiʻI, Nathan Lee Mar 2026

The Private Prison Problem: Finding Pathways To Justice In HawaiʻI, Nathan Lee

UC Law Journal of Race and Economic Justice

This article considers the many obstacles in place to challenging private prison operation. Given decades of meaningful scholarship and legal activism on the “private prison problem”, it is puzzling that successful challenges to privatized incarceration remain elusive. This article seeks to introduce the lengthy and tragic history of Hawaiʻi’s use of out of state private prisons, stretching from 1995 to the present. For 30 years, people have been sent thousands of miles from home, effectively banished. Worse, Hawaiʻi has failed to take appropriate action to implement oversight or to bring individuals back home. Moreover, despite Hawaiʻi’s prominent involvement in private, …
