Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a disorder of the gut-brain interaction that is a chronic and often debilitating disorder characterized by symptoms of recurrent abdominal pain and disordered defecation, affecting up to 10-12% of adults in North America. The purpose of this study analysis is to compare tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) use to diet modification and visceral manipulation in the treatment of IBS. Two editions were published: La hija que no soñaste in Mexico and Yo no soy tu perfecta hija mexicana in the United States. Similar to dementia management, treatment of mild cognitive impairment includes both non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic options to help prevent progression of further cognitive decline and dementia. This dissertation investigates the cognitive, emotional, and physiological factors contributing to weight loss maintenance, emphasizing the roles of eating behaviors, depressive symptoms, and inflammation. In a retrospective cohort study, data was collected on individuals enrolled in the Michigan Weight Management Program who consented to involvement in this research. It is well known that the composition/excipients of a topical dermatological drug product (TDDP) affect the permeation of an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) through the skin. While it is generally accepted that the vehicle mostly modulates the release of the API from the product, little is known whether the vehicle might also influence the kinetics of the API within the skin itself. This quantitative study examined the impact of job satisfaction and salary on Latina principals' decisions to remain in their current positions. The research utilized data from the National Teacher and Principal Survey (NTPS). A logistic regression was employed to examine the relationship between independent variables, such as time spent with students and parents, salary, and job satisfaction, and the dependent variable of Latina principal retention. and data analysis utilizing DataLab. The results indicated that job satisfaction was positively associated with retention, while salary was not a significant predictor. Metastatic diseases comprise 1-3% of malignant oral neoplasms with nearly one-third of patients being unaware of having a primary cancer1-4,9. This retrospective analysis identified all oral lesions diagnosed as metastatic disease in the CDM Department of Oral Pathology’s oral biopsy database from 2015-2020 and reported on patient demographics, clinical presentation and diagnosis, origin of the primary, and whether the patient had known history of the disease. From 17,500 total cases, 7 cases were identified as metastatic disease and described in detail. Clinicians’ recognition and awareness of these lesions’ often evasive, ambiguous oral presentations may help facilitate diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis.

Multi-modality learning, exemplified by the language-image pair pre-trained CLIP model, has demonstrated remarkable performance in enhancing zero-shot capabilities and has gained significant attention recently. However, simply applying language-image pre-trained CLIP to medical image analysis encounters substantial domain shifts, resulting in severe performance degradation due to inherent disparities between natural (non-medical) and medical image characteristics. To address this challenge and uphold or even enhance CLIP's zero-shot capability in medical image analysis, we develop a novel approach, Core-Periphery feature alignment for CLIP (CP-CLIP), to model medical images and corresponding clinical text jointly. Utility-scale solar energy is the fastest-growing source of energy in the United States, and it provides many benefits related to climate change mitigation, pollution reduction, and tax revenue for the impacted localities. However, the rapid expansion of this technology raises some concerns, including the possible loss of farmland, forest land, and sensitive ecosystems, as well as potential environmental justice impacts from concentrating these facilities in low-income and/or minority communities.

Though the ACRL Framework holds metacognition as crucial to exercising information literacy, its emphasis was reduced from prominence in early drafts to a single mention in the final document. At the same time, few of the frequently-taught sets of source evaluation criteria include a step for self-awareness. This raises the question: do librarians explicitly teach metacognitive concepts when they teach source evaluation? While microplastics have become a novel pollutant of concern, few studies have directly compared different polymers’ effects on plants. We investigated the effects of high-density (HDPE) and low-density (LDPE) polyethylene on arugula growth. We hypothesized that polyethylene microplastics would inhibit growth and that LDPE would have a greater effect than HDPE due to its branched structure and lower density. We grew arugula (Eruca vesicaria) in plain soil or soil mixed with HDPE or LDPE microplastics. Instruments for Measuring Online Teaching Practices

Although online courses have been a part of academia for nearly 30 years, they are still perceived as “different” than face-to-face instruction. Through in-depth interviews with four instructors, we explored how STEM faculty approach teaching asynchronous online undergraduate STEM courses. The faculty interviewed for this study viewed online courses as “not regular class[es]” and teaching those classes as “not teaching per se.” Each of the instructors had assumptions about what a classroom was and about good instruction, but even for instructors who taught online for multiple years, those assumptions remained grounded in the face-to-face environment. The use of online instruction for undergraduate STEM courses is growing rapidly. While researchers and practitioners have access to validated instruments for studying the practice of teaching in face-to-face classrooms, analogous tools do not yet exist for online instruction. Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) is the second-most widely farmed fish species globally, playing a critical role in food security and livelihoods, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. With the increasing global focus on the ethical and sustainable production of animal-source foods, the assessment and improvement of fish welfare in aquaculture systems has become a priority.
