Kinship Verification Based On Intelligent Techniques: Survey, Muna Ghazi Abdulsahib
Kinship Verification Based On Intelligent Techniques: Survey, Muna Ghazi Abdulsahib
Iraqi Journal of Computers, Communications, Control and Systems Engineering
Kinship verification is the process of using observable characteristics, including facial features or other biometric data, to ascertain whether two people are familial related. Current approaches to kinship verification encounter multiple challenges, despite their significance in fields such as biometric security, family reunification, and forensic investigations. The most accurate way to confirm kinship is by DNA analysis, which is expensive, time-consuming, and invasive; in contrast, the traditional methods using manual comparison and facial recognition are more prone to human mistake. Visual verification of kinship among family members can be difficult to reliably rely on due to genetic variability, aging, and …

Anaplasma Phagocytophilum’S Effect On Gopher Tortoises Of South East Florida, Elena Tonkin
Harriet L Wilkes Honors College Theses 2020 - Present
Recent studies have revealed Anaplasma phagocytophilum as a new pathogen that has started to affect gopher tortoise populations throughout Florida. This study investigated how the pathogen, A. phagocytophilum, has potentially begun to spread amongst the gopher tortoises in the Abacoa Greenway and the Florida Atlantic University Preserve (FAUP). To investigate these tortoises, blood samples were taken from multiple specimens from Range VI of the Greenway and FAUP. DNA isolated from these samples were then analyzed for the presence of A.phagocytophilum utilizing PCR and gel electrophoresis, followed by Sanger sequencing. This research demonstrated that A.phagocytophilum has not made its way …

Seed aging adversely affects agricultural productivity by reducing germination rates and seedling vigor, leading to significant costs for seed banks and companies due to the need for frequent seed renewals. This study demonstrated the use of plasma-activated water (PAW), generated by a solar-powered corona dielectric barrier discharger, to enhance germination rates of spinach seeds that had been stored at 4 °C for 23 years. Treating seeds with PAW at 17 kV for 15 min improved germination (by 135%) and seedling growth compared to untreated seeds. Through detailed analysis, beneficial PAW properties for seed development were identified, and a molecular mechanism …
