Background:

Discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE) is a relentless autoimmune disease that, when affecting the scalp, can lead to permanent, disfiguring scarring alopecia. Despite its potential for early intervention, many cases go undiagnosed or undertreated, leaving patients with irreversible damage. This case follows a 22-year trajectory of progressive scalp DLE, illustrating the consequences of delayed care and the challenge of managing chronic cutaneous lupus.

Our research focused on the fluid gusher complication from cochlear implant surgery. Fluid gusher is one of the most prevalent complications of cochlear implant surgery and occurs when cerebral spinal fluid leaks from the cochleostomy site. The complication occurs with opening the round window. We performed a systematic review of the literature, focusing on overviews of cochlear implant surgery complications. There are many factors contributing to the cause of fluid gushers including, biological sex, age, time of procedure, follow up time, temporal bone abnormalities, and abnormalities of the lateral wall of the internal auditory canal. Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther films brought the genre of Afrofuturism to a mainstream audience. Afrofuturism seeks to reclaim a past that was stolen by Western colonial and imperialist powers; because that past has been erased, it must be imagined in fiction. Afrofuturistic stories are then used to address issues in the present and look towards a better future. Long-duration space missions pose significant challenges to astronaut health, primarily due to the detrimental effects of microgravity on musculoskeletal and cardiovascular systems. This research proposal aims to address the critical gap between pre- and post-spaceflight physiological conditions, focusing on the marked decline in muscle mass, bone density, and cardiovascular function. Existing countermeasures, such as resistive exercise, are insufficient to prevent muscle atrophy and bone demineralization, highlighting the need for novel solutions. Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) emerges as a promising intervention, capable of eliciting muscle contractions to maintain function and mitigate atrophy. Journal of Counseling Sexology & Sexual Wellness: Research, Practice, and Education

In recent years, there has been an increase in legislation that limits access to resources and affirming environments for LGBTQ+ individuals in the United States. This research aimed to identify trends in legislation at the state level impacting gender-affirming school counseling services in the United States. This study represents a content analysis of 225 pieces of state-level legislation from 2023 affecting LGBTQ+ youth in schools. Legislation largely created limitations on use of affirming pronouns for youth in school, availability of appropriate restrooms and changing facilities for transgender and gender expansive youth, and curriculum in schools addressing gender and sexuality.

Journal of Counseling Sexology & Sexual Wellness: Research, Practice, and Education

Sexuality counseling training remains underdeveloped and lacks standardization across counselor education programs in the United States. We examined the integration of sexuality counseling in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) programs. Out of 191 CMHC programs, 45% offered a standalone course and only 15.2% required one. We also performed summative and latent content analyses on the course descriptions to review the primary content of sexuality counseling courses. Content analysIs revealed course content largely focusing on sex positivity and inclusivity, though invalidating and potentially stigmatizing language persists. We conclude with implications for counselor education and future directions for research.

Sexuality is a multifaceted topic that many counselors feel under-equipped to handle with their clients. Working with sexual aspects is often avoided, especially with younger clients. The purpose of this conceptual article is to provide a framework for understanding and working with children on sexuality-related topics. A positive, contextualized approach to sexuality is offered to understand, assess, and intervene with different developmental levels. We conclude with a case study to demonstrate application of the contextualized model in family counseling.

Information and public policy analysis are critical factors in adequate public policy formulation, implementation and evaluation if the public good is to be achieved in Nigeria. This paper has carried out a critical examination of the interface between information and the public policy process and the effect on public policy analysis and has found that there is a crucial interrelationship among them in order to promote sustainable development. Early prediction of response to therapy or lack thereof can help physicians plan treatment more efficiently. Biomarkers based on circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) are promising. However, biomarkers beyond direct comparison to baseline have not been thoroughly explored. We develop a model for ctDNA shedding under targeted therapy that incorporates pharmacokinetics. Using a simulated cohort of virtual patients with varied parameters, we define and analyze a biomarker based on ctDNA samples at baseline, 12 hours, and 24 hours after initiation of treatment. In Drosophila melanogaster, hematopoiesis produces three types of blood cells (hemocytes): plasmatocytes, lamellocytes, and crystal cells, all of which provide vital immunological activities. Crystal cells have an especially essential role in melanization, a wound reaction mediated by prophenoloxidase enzymes. This study investigates genetic regulators of crystal cell growth by RNAi-mediated knockdown of five potential genes: ACXA, ACXB, Gp210, CG4390, and Cyp4s3. We used the GAL4/UAS system to selectively silence each gene and quantify crystal cell counts in wandering third instar larvae after heat shock-induced melanization. To address these issues, a class of materials is introduced that uses 3D printing to seamlessly integrate fibers within porous scaffolds, allowing improved sound absorption performance without a significant weight addition.
