Co-occurring mental health (MH) and substance use disorders (SUDs) pose a significant challenge for social work practice, especially for licensed clinical social workers (LCSWs) in private practice who often work with limited resources and support. Glycosylation controls immune evasion, tumor progression, and metastasis. However, how tumor cell sialylation regulates immune evasion remains poorly characterized. ST6GalNAc-I, a sialyltransferase that conjugates sialic acid to the glycans in glycoproteins, was overexpressed in an aggressive-type KPA (KrasG12D/+ Trp53R172H/+ Ad-Cre) lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) model and patient samples. Proteomic and biochemical analysis indicated that ST6GalNAc-I mediated NECTIN2 sialylation in LUAD cells. ST6GalNAc-I-deficient tumor cells cocultured with T cells were more susceptible to T cell-mediated tumor cell killing, indicating a key role for NECTIN2 in T cell dysfunction. Mice injected with St6galnac-I-knockdown syngeneic cells showed reduced lung tumor incidence and Nectin2/Tigit-associated immunosuppression. …

This dissertation explores the role-space of educational interpreters at IC Cossato, an Italian public school known for its Bilingualism Project promoting LIS-Italian bilingualism and biliteracy (Rivisto, 2016; Teruggi, 2003). Role-space theory (Lee, 2023; Llewellyn-Jones & Lee, 2013, 2014) conceptualizes interpreters’ roles as dynamic and co-constructed with interlocutors along three axes: Presentation of Self, Interaction Management, and Participant Alignment. Freshwater ecosystems face various environmental pressures, such as the impacts of climate change and intensifying land-use practices. This study aimed to assess the ecological preferences of phytoplankton communities and determine the ecological status (ES) of several reservoirs and lakes in Ceyhan River Basin across different seasons. We conducted a community-science project in Northern California - the Seed Pile Project - with three broad goals: 1) to test which locally-native, seed-dispersed plants would thrive without intervention in human-occupied spaces, 2) to engage the public with the often-ignored biodiversity along our roadsides, sidewalks, and other highly-disturbed spaces, and 3) to create community around rewilding our urban areas. High temperature phase instability limits the performance of III-V zinc blende semiconductor devices. A technique using an encapsulant and sacrificial layer is developed to reduce thermal degradation by group V sublimation during thermal processing of InGaAs/GaAs structures. This technique is successful in preventing As sublimation and preserving an atomically smooth surface required for surface-sensitive characterization. The degradation of the GaAsSb/InP interface by phase separation is studied. Significant interdiffusion and intermixing occurs due to the formation of a molten InSb at the interface. The intermixing is driven by phase separation and melting of the InSb interfacial layer that enhances atomic mobility. …

Feminine-centric, heteronormative psychological restoration interventions on gay minority men exposed to trauma and human trafficking are poorly understood. This study includes an analysis of forensics and psychological causal factors retrieved from 6 semi structured interviews with gay minority male psychological services providers. The corroboration of the clinical opinions of the participants and the enrichment of data using database reviews reflected poor treatment outcomes for the gay, minority-men population. The qualitative methodology and thematic analysis framework highlighted oppressive factors of structural intersectionality. This study investigated the chemopreventive potential of two natural compounds, Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG) found in green tea, and Alpha L-Mangostin from mangosteen, on apoptosis and gene expression in ES cells. These blooms threaten both ecosystems and public health, making it essential to understand their underlying drivers. Cyanobacteria generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) during photosynthesis, which can cause cellular damage unless neutralized. San Joaquin kit foxes (Vulpes macrotis mutica) are endemic to arid habitats in the San Joaquin Valley region of central California. This species is listed as Endangered due to profound habitat loss throughout its range caused by agricultural, industrial, and urban development. Interestingly, kit foxes currently occur in three cities with the population in the city of Bakersfield being large (several hundred foxes) and self-sustaining.
