Background Infants born to pregnant women living with HIV (WLHIV) are at greater risk for morbidity and mortality and may also have poorer developmental outcomes as compared with infants who are not exposed to HIV. Nutrition interventions in pregnancy may affect developmental outcomes.

Objectives This study evaluated the effect of maternal vitamin D supplementation on infant development outcomes.

Design We conducted a secondary analysis of a randomised, triple-blind, placebo-controlled trial of maternal vitamin D supplementation from June 2015 to October 2019.

Setting Antenatal care clinics in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Neuropteran insects display a phenomenon called distance segregation during male meiosis I, where the X and Y chromosomes are unconnected from prometaphase I through anaphase I. Here we investigate chromosome number and patterns of chromosome segregation of a previously unstudied Neuropteran: the green lacewing, Chrysoperla rufilabris (Burmeister, 1839). Testes of male C. rufilabris were isolated and prepared following a chromosome squash method. Living meiosis I spermatocytes were also imaged. The data revealed a chromosome number of 2n=12 in males (2n=10+XY) and evidence of distance segregation of X and Y chromosomes in meiosis I spermatocytes.

BACKGROUND: Sonic hedgehog (SHH) medulloblastoma is the most common molecular group of infant and early childhood medulloblastoma (iMB) and has no standard of care at relapse. This work aimed to evaluate the post-relapse survival (PRS) and explore prognostic factors of patients with nodular desmoplastic (ND) and/or SHH iMB.

METHODS: This international retrospective study included 147 subjects diagnosed with relapsed ND/SHH iMB between 1995 and 2017, < 6 years old at original diagnosis, and treated without initial craniospinal irradiation (CSI). Univariable and multivariable Cox models with propensity score analyses were used to assess PRS for those in the curative intent cohort.

RESULTS: The 3-year PRS was 61.6% (95% confidence interval [CI], 52.2-69.6). The median age at relapse was 3.4 years (interquartile range [IQR], 2.6-4.1). Those with local relapse (40.8%) more often received salvage treatment with surgery …

Many western scientific disciplines adopted Indigenous Knowledge and terminology without deference to or understanding of the original meanings and values attached to Indigenous terms and concepts. This form of scientific appropriation has become a serious barrier to efforts of decolonizing Arctic research. The notion of Alaas is an example of such appropriation by the western science-based system of Indigenous knowledge about human–nature relations. BACKGROUND: Concomitant anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and medial collateral ligament (MCL) injuries are among the most commonly reported injury patterns in high-energy knee injuries. Concomitant ACL and MCL reconstruction (ACLR + MCLR) is indicated in patients with full-thickness tears and persistent valgus laxity.

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of nearpod-based interactive media on student learning outcomes on excretory system material for class XI SMAN 8 Pontianak. This study used a Quasi-Experimental method with a Pre-test Post-test Control Group Design. The average post-test for the experimental class is 79.29, which is higher than the control class, which is 72.06. Data on learning outcomes were analyzed using the Independent Sample t-test and obtained 0.001 <0.05 so that there is differences in learning outcomes between the experimental and control classes. The effect size value is 0.76 in the high category and contributes 27.64% to learning, so it can be concluded that nearpod-based interactive media affects learning outcomes.

This research explores the influence of using open-ended worksheets in interactive demonstration learning on students' understanding of harmonic motion and scientific reasoning. It is a quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest control group design. Data were obtained from conceptual understanding and scientific reasoning tests and analyzed using parametric and non-parametric tests. The results show that open-ended worksheets enhance students' concept comprehension and scientific reasoning. There was a significant difference in conceptual understanding between the two classes. However, there was no difference in scientific reasoning. These findings hold valuable implications for improving learning with open-ended worksheets and interactive demonstration models.

Disclosed herein is a series of helical sulfono-γ-AApeptides that mimic the binding mode of the α-helical HD2 domain of B-Cell Lymphoma 9 (BCL9). As disclosed herein, sulfono-γ-AApeptides can structurally and functionally mimic the α-helical domain of BCL9, and selectively disrupt β-catenin/BCL9 PPIs with even higher potency. More intriguingly, these sulfono-γ-AApeptides can enter cancer cells, bind with β-catenin and disrupt β-catenin/BCL PPI, and exhibit excellent cellular activity, which is much more potent than the BCL9 peptide. Soft tissues exhibit remarkable stretchability, fracture toughness, and stress–relaxation ability. They possess a large water content to support cellular processes. Mimicking such a combination of mechanical and physical properties in hydrogels is important for tissue engineering applications but remains challenging. This work aims to develop a hydrogel that can combine excellent mechanical properties with cellular viability. The research focused on polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/agar double-network (DN) hydrogels, fabricated by thermal gelation and freeze–thawing methods.
