Objective: To analyze correlations between the Oral Hygiene Behavior Index (OHB Index) and the plaque index, salivary flow rate, and relative quantification of Veillonella parvula in an Islamic boarding school.

Material and Method: A total of 49 male and 52 female students aged 12-14 years attending an Islamic Boarding School in Depok, West Java, were included in this study. The participants were clinically examined using the Greene and Vermillion Debris Index to determine their unstimulated salivary flow rates (ml/min). Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the amount of calcium and phosphorus contained in skipjack tuna bones, the most widely produced and consumed fish in Indonesia, so that in the future, these fish bones, which are often unused, can potentially be utilized as raw materials for tooth remineralization.

Material and Method: The sample was skipjack fish bone powder (Katsuwonus pelamis) which was then subjected to functional group analysis with the Fourier Transform Infra-Red instrument (FTIR), calcium level analysis with Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS), and phosphorus level analysis with a UV-Visible Spectrophotometer.

Male participation in contraceptive use in Indonesia remains very low, while women continue to bear a disproportionate reproductive burden, including mental health impacts from contraceptive side effects. This study aims to examine the effect of husbands’ contraceptive use on wives’ mental health. The analysis utilizes data from the fifth wave of the Indonesia Family Life Survey conducted in 2014. Wives’ mental health is measured using the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale - 10. The results of the binary logistic regression model indicate that husbands’ contraceptive use lowers the likelihood of wives experiencing depression. Additionally, being aged 25-49, having good …

This article offers a reinterpretation of the Kutika manuscript from a Buginese ethnoecological perspective. Departing from a philological study of the Lontara’ Kutika text in the National Library of Indonesia (PNRI) collection (code VT 129), this research examines how Buginese communities articulate their interaction with nature through this manuscript. The aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) is a ligand-dependent transcription factor activated by environmental toxicants like halogenated and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, which then binds to DNA and regulates gene expression. AHR is implicated in numerous physiological processes, including liver and immune function, cell cycle control, oncogenesis, and metabolism. Traditionally, AHR binds a consensus DNA sequence (GCGTG), the xenobiotic response element (XRE), recruits coregulators, and modulates gene expression. Yet, recent evidence suggests AHR can also regulate gene expression via a non-consensus sequence (GGGA), termed the non-consensus XRE (NC-XRE). Since the 1990s, coastal communities in Langkat Regency have begun cutting down forests for firewood without understanding the potential impacts. Background: Cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis (CTX) is an inherited metabolic disorder caused by variants in CYP27A1 leading to loss of sterol-27-hydroxylase activity. Sterol-27-hydroxylase generates two classes of bioactive signaling molecules: bile acids and oxysterols. The broader metabolic consequences resulting from perturbations in bile acid and oxysterol signaling and their reversibility with FDA-approved treatment chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA), are not fully described.

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), a genetically distinct strain of S. aureus, poses a significant health problem in humans and animals. MRSA is responsible for various difficult-to-treat illnesses in humans and animals. The loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) experiment was performed using four unique primers developed for six distinct mecA and femA gene sequences. The LAMP test was completed in 45 minutes at 62.5°C and visualized by gel electrophoresis. Moreover, the LAMP test has better sensitivity than conventional PCR, detecting genomic DNA at 64.8 pg/μL, which is hundreds of times more sensitive than conventional PCR.  The LAMP test is an …

Defective Viral Genomes (DVGs), which are viral genomes that are defective in some way, are naturally occurring byproducts of viral replication in numerous RNA viruses, notably Orthomyxoviridae (Influenza virus), Filoviridae (Ebola and dengue), and Paramyxoviridae (Respiratory Syncytial). They have three well-defined functions: interference with regular virus replication, immunostimulation, and virus persistence. DVGs are defective viral genomes that can hijack the replication cycle of wild-type viruses, leading to partial or complete suppression of viral populations. This study provides a systematic review of optic neuritis and neuroretinitis associated with cat scratch disease (CSD) caused by Bartonella henselae. CSD, commonly transmitted through cat scratches or bites, can lead to visual complications, particularly in children, who are more frequently exposed to cats. A comprehensive literature search identified 10 relevant studies from an initial pool of 521 articles. Typical CSD manifests with regional lymphadenopathy, but severe complications like hepatosplenomegaly and encephalitis can occur, especially in younger patients. Background: Elimination disorders, such as urinary (enuresis) and fecal incontinence (encopresis), involve inappropriate voiding beyond the expected age due to developmental, psychological, or physiological factors. These conditions impact children’s emotional well-being, self-esteem, social functioning, and family relationships. However, few studies have compared psychological functioning and family communication in affected children. This study examines general health, behavioral problems, and mother-child relationships in children with elimination disorders versus healthy peers. Background: Naegleria fowleri is a high-temperature freshwater-living amoeba causing PAM by invading nasal epithelium. N. fowleri lives ubiquitously in high-temperature freshwater, but only around 400 cases of PAM have been published worldwide. The mortality rate is 98%. No treatment is 100% effective. Case Presentation: A previously healthy 17-year-old female presented to an urgent care center with fever, headache, sore throat, ear pain, and dizziness. She had swum in freshwater 5 days prior. Her symptoms progressed to altered mental status, photo- and phonophobia, and neck stiffness. Within 4 days, she developed increased intracranial pressure (ICP) and eventually brain death. Posterior fossa hemorrhage (PFH) is a highly morbid condition in preterm and term infants. In this article, we aim to first describe a case of posterior fossa hemorrhage (PFH) and using this example, provide a comprehensive narrative review of the pathophysiology, risk factors, diagnosis, and management of PFH. Management may differ depending on the etiology and based on careful consideration of the risks and benefits of surgical versus conservative management.

After decades of punishing murder-suicide headlines, a growing body of evidence now corroborates what female domestic violence survivors have said for years: that family courts deciding child custody cases disproportionately reject mothers’ allegations of domestic violence and paternal child abuse. From prominent legal scholars to local family law attorneys (and increasingly, investigative reporters), many modern voices contend that mothers specifically face a litany of obstacles in court, including heightened judicial suspicion that they are “parental alienators,” a widespread minimization of coercive control, and state legal standards that  emphasize shared parenting over child safety.
