Employee turnover presents significant challenges for organizations, such as diminished productivity, loss of critical knowledge, and heightened recruitment costs. Effective retention of talented employees is vital for organizational success, yet many organizations face difficulties in managing turnover. This dissertation explores employee turnover and retention through the framework of Herzberg’s Two-Factor Theory, which differentiates between motivators that enhance job satisfaction and hygiene factors that prevent dissatisfaction. Utilizing a multiple case study approach, the research examines one public sector organization and one private sector organization in Tioga County, Pennsylvania to analyze how Herzberg’s theory applies in varied organizational contexts and its impact …

Changing The Narrative For University Students With A History Of Aces: Campus Assets And Student Well-Being, Hailey Ellingson Jan 2025

Changing The Narrative For University Students With A History Of Aces: Campus Assets And Student Well-Being, Hailey Ellingson

West Chester University Doctoral Projects

College students often report high levels of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), which are linked to poor mental and physical health and lower academic success. While some positive experiences in childhood can lessen the risk outcomes associated with ACEs, limited research has explored how this applies to college students. This study examined how assets – specifically, college climate and resources – relate to student well-being and whether these assets buffer the impact of cumulative ACEs, which refers to adverse experiences within the home (e.g., abuse, neglect, and witnessing domestic violence) and community (e.g., bullying and neighborhood violence). Undergraduate students (n …

Detection Of Data Leakage And Disruption Of Covert Timing Channel In Secure Drone Communication Using Machine And Deep Learning, Jonathan Walatkiewicz

Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations

The utilization of recreational drones has experienced a substantial increase in both the United States and globally. However, it is noteworthy that most drones, classified as Internet of Things devices, are produced with a limited security lifecycle. This study's findings are of paramount importance, as traditional computing exploits can be applied to drones, designating them as high- value targets. This study examines the detectability and disruptability of covert timing channel traffic in secure drones. The investigation aims to ascertain the effects of multiple interarrival times, distances ranging from 1 to 330 feet, various detection algorithms, and stream sizes between 32-bit …

Policing In Pixels, Lea Cazaudumec Lucas Jan 2025

Policing In Pixels, Lea Cazaudumec Lucas

Journal of Law, Technology, & the Internet

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming border security and law enforcement, with facial recognition technology (FRT) at the forefront of this shift. Widely adopted by U.S. federal agencies such as the FBI, ICE, and CBP, FRT is increasingly used to monitor both citizens and migrants, often without their knowledge. While this technology promises enhanced security, it’s early-stage deployment raises significant concerns about reliability, bias, and ethical data sourcing. This paper examines how FRT is being used at the U.S.-Mexico border and beyond, highlighting its potential to disproportionately target vulnerable groups and infringe on constitutional rights.

The paper provides an overview of …

Exploring Law Enforcement Officers' Experiences With Athletic Trainers And Work-Related Injury, Stephanie H. Clines, Rubie Gaudette, Amanda Wheeler, Jennifer Ostrowsk

Athletic Training Faculty Publications

Law enforcement is an emerging clinical setting for athletic trainers (ATs), yet little is known regarding law enforcement officers (LEOs) perceptions of the profession. This qualitative study following a general inductive approach explored LEOs' experiences with musculoskeletal injury and their interactions with ATs. Seven officers (N = 7) participated in one-on-one semi-structured interviews. Three themes emerged: (1) roles and responsibilities of ATs, (2) education and training, and (3) impact of injury on LEOs. While participants viewed ATs positively, they demonstrated limited understanding of the profession's scope and expertise. Participants commonly described managing musculoskeletal injuries on their own due to …

Deconstructing The Digital Sentence: A Call For The Protection Of Privacy, Identity, And Rehabilitation In The Age Of Ai, Noah Baumgaertel Jan 2025

Deconstructing The Digital Sentence: A Call For The Protection Of Privacy, Identity, And Rehabilitation In The Age Of Ai, Noah Baumgaertel

Student Work

As our society has transitioned into the digital age, we have found ways to implement technology and more efficiently capture criminal suspects. Under the guise of transparency, many former offenders and mere suspects have had their personal information shared publicly on the internet. It follows, then, that many perceived ‘criminals’ are judged by society even after being exonerated or having served their time, largely as a result of this data. Inevitably, we must attempt to address the concerns at hand: How can criminal justice data be effectively safeguarded to support ethical AI and the successful reintegration of individuals in the …

Research Into Public Acceptance Of Drone Applications In Rural Areas (Ongoing Project), Jan-Christian Mahrt

International Symposium on Aviation Psychology - 2025

As unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) become increasingly relevant in agriculture, logistics, and emergency services, their integration into rural areas offers bothopportunities and challenges. Public acceptance is a key factor for successfulimplementation and is influenced by perceived usefulness, emotional responses, trust, and local relevance. Acceptance also varies across application fields andgeographic contexts. Despite growing interest in drone technologies, empiricalresearch on rural-specific acceptance remains limited. This study addresses thatgap by investigating public acceptance of civilian drone applications in ruralnorthern Germany, particularly in coastal regions. It explores cognitive andemotional acceptance factors, cross-sectoral differences, and developscommunication strategies to foster support. The research is part of a …

The Dangers Of Denying Prosecutorial Independence: Wrongful Convictions, Official Misconduct, And Public Corruption, Meagan R. Hurley

Articles

In recent years, desires to limit prosecutorial discretion have become the focus of a national dialogue on the authority of the elected officials, allegations of their misconduct, and the need for stronger accountability measures. Legislatures across the country have considered a slew of bills aimed at diminishing prosecutorial power by prohibiting “progressive” office policies, creating oversight commissions, and promulgating simplified processes to recall or remove prosecutors entirely. In various jurisdictions, those proposals are now coming to fruition. While heightened scrutiny for some of the legal system’s most powerful leaders may seem attractive, an analysis of national trends aimed at curtailing …

Concealed Carry And The Right To Self Defense In Missouri, Andrew Stafford Ii Jan 2025

Concealed Carry And The Right To Self Defense In Missouri, Andrew Stafford Ii

Law Student Works

Firearm regulation, both nationally and in Missouri, sits at the center of ongoing constitutional debate and evolving public policy. Missouri’s legal landscape reflects a significant shift over the past two decades. The state moved from a traditional permit-based concealed carry system to a broad permitless carry framework that allows most adults to carry concealed firearms without a permit. This shift follows major developments in federal Second Amendment case law, including District of Columbia v. Heller, McDonald v. Chicago, and New York State Rifle & Pistol Ass’n v. Bruen, as well as Missouri’s 2014 constitutional amendment requiring courts to evaluate restrictions …

The Disparity In Litigating Racial Disparity Claims: The Need For California Courts To Articulate A Framework For Assessing Racial Justice Act Challenges To Charging, Conviction, And Sentencing, Romo, Lisa M.

Santa Clara Law Review

Under California’s Racial Justice Act (RJA)—codified in Penal Code section 745—the state may not seek or obtain a criminal conviction or sentence on the basis of race, ethnicity, or national origin. There are four pathways to establishing an RJA violation. Two of the pathways proscribe discriminatory or biased conduct or language inside or outside the courtroom by specified criminal legal system actors, including judges, attorneys, law enforcement officers, and expert witnesses. The other two are based on disparities in charging, conviction, or sentencing associated with defendant race, ethnicity, or national origin and alternatively, in the case of sentencing, that of …

The Bridge-Builder Project: Social Justice Bridge-Builder- A Model For Addressing Racial Justice, Marguerite Williams Jan 2025

The Bridge-Builder Project: Social Justice Bridge-Builder- A Model For Addressing Racial Justice, Marguerite Williams

All Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The Bridge-Builder Project demonstrates that social justice is based on God’s Character, God’s Covenant, and God’s Call. God consistently addressed inequities affecting the oppressed, the orphaned, the imprisoned, and the widowed. Social justice has been associated with political parties; however, it is clearly reflected in God’s view of humanity. For the Christian, our frame of reference begins with God. Scripture offers a clear framework. That framework begins with understanding humanity through the lens of the One who made us – God. God created each diverse human being in His Image—Imago Dei. Based on this premise, God values humanity and that …
