Relationship Between Cognitive Distortions And Burnout Among Primary Care Physicians, Wilson Albarracin Jan 2024

Relationship Between Cognitive Distortions And Burnout Among Primary Care Physicians, Wilson Albarracin

PCOM Psychology Dissertations

Burnout is a depleted state characterized by three components: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and low personal accomplishment (Wong et al., 2020). A widespread problem among physicians, burnout may increase the likelihood of committing occupational errors (Buran & Altın, 2021). The medical profession encompasses many demanding responsibilities related to direct patient care (Amanullah & Ramesh, 2020). Burnout associated with the recent pandemic may have led to medical malpractice lawsuits and even jeopardized patient safety (Sung et al., 2020). Along with burnout, physicians are at a greater risk of developing psychiatric disorders and committing suicide than the general population (Ofei-Dodoo et al., 2021; …

Exploring The Usefulness Of Pre-Visit Materials For Children With Autism At A Public Museum, Jennifer K. Fortuna, Elaine Chamberlain, Libby Filice, Madeline Kurt, Taylor Porter, Shannon Twichell, Stephanie Ogren Jan 2024

Exploring The Usefulness Of Pre-Visit Materials For Children With Autism At A Public Museum, Jennifer K. Fortuna, Elaine Chamberlain, Libby Filice, Madeline Kurt, Taylor Porter, Shannon Twichell, Stephanie Ogren

Translational Science in Occupation

Abstract

Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) participate in community-based settings at lower rates than typically developing children. Museums provide a structured, predictable, and supportive place for children with ASD to learn. Visiting a museum may create unique challenges for children with ASD and their families. Sensory processing disorder (SPD) is a common barrier to participation that makes it difficult to process information coming in through the senses. For children who are easily overstimulated, crowds, noise, and long lines can be a source of anxiety and stress. Providing pre-visit materials such as social stories, accessibility maps, and communication books can …

Methods: Participants completed a survey with questions that included demographics, 3-item UCLA Loneliness Scale, Brief Sense of Community Scale, and open-ended questions. Results: Participants (N=21, median age of 76-80) report …

Changes In Visual Scanning During Stimulus Equivalence Training, Katelyn Jones Jan 2024

Changes In Visual Scanning During Stimulus Equivalence Training, Katelyn Jones

Graduate Theses/Dissertations

Stimulus equivalence-based training allows learners to gain new knowledge by deriving novel relations without being directly taught. This is an important skill that some individuals, especially in special populations, have as a deficit. One possible reason individuals may struggle with stimulus equivalence is a deficit in visual experience that promotes selective attention to stimulus properties. With the advancement of technology, visual tracking and visual scanning offers a means to assess visual behavior in detail while learning stimulus associations. Identifying individual differences, and deficits in visual scanning behavior should provide researchers with better means to design interventions, promoting appropriate visual scanning …

Perfectly Disconnected: Examining The Role Of Neuroticism In The Perfectionism Social Disconnection Model, Brooklynn Madison Cook Jan 2024

Perfectly Disconnected: Examining The Role Of Neuroticism In The Perfectionism Social Disconnection Model, Brooklynn Madison Cook

Graduate Theses/Dissertations

Numerous studies have examined the effects of various personality traits on social functioning. Perfectionism is a multidimensional personality trait that has been related to lower social connection and perceived social support. The Perfectionism Social Disconnection Model (PSDM) suggests that perfectionism traits lead to interpersonal disconnection as those with perfectionism are inclined to intensely fear rejection due to the innate need to be accepted by others. Conflictingly, this leads to a distant presentation in social relationships, impeding interpersonal connection. While researchers have employed several variables to further examine the interpersonal nature of perfectionism, neuroticism has yet to be considered in the …

Sharing Is Caring: The Effect Of Interpersonal Interdependence, Shame Proneness, And Empathy On One's Physiological Response When Witnessing And Experiencing Shame, Lauren Michelle Smith Jan 2024

Sharing Is Caring: The Effect Of Interpersonal Interdependence, Shame Proneness, And Empathy On One's Physiological Response When Witnessing And Experiencing Shame, Lauren Michelle Smith

Graduate Theses/Dissertations

This study identifies the impact of interpersonal interdependence on one’s physiological response when one witnesses shame and examines the predictive qualities of shame-proneness and empathy on these differences. It is predicted that interpersonal interdependence, shame proneness, and empathy will affect the physiological response. A One-way Repeated Measures ANOVA, single linear regression, and multiple linear regression were used to assess differences. The findings showed that participants experienced significantly higher levels of physiological arousal when experiencing shame personally compared to witnessing it in others (stranger and loved one). It was also found that shame-proneness has a negative relationship with physiological arousal when …

Experience Of Parents Attending A Perinatal Lullaby Program, Emily J. Skeers Jan 2024

Experience Of Parents Attending A Perinatal Lullaby Program, Emily J. Skeers

Graduate Theses/Dissertations

Previous research performed with mother–infant dyads has demonstrated that infant–directed singing may make significant contributions to mother–infant attachment, may reduce infant stress, reduce maternal stress, assist mothers and babies with emotional regulation, improve mother–infant interactions, prevent colic, and improve infant sleep. Despite these benefit potentials, parents of today are much less likely to sing to their infants than parents of previous generations. Attendance of postnatal lullaby education programs has been associated with increased maternal singing at home and confidence in their parenting role. Perinatal lullaby programs are not represented in the literature. This qualitative study explored the lived experiences of …
