Giftedness In A Post-Secondary Environment: Academic, Social, And Affective Results And Recommendations, Justin Villet
Giftedness In A Post-Secondary Environment: Academic, Social, And Affective Results And Recommendations, Justin Villet
Dissertations
The field of gifted education has been present in America since the early 20th century (Jolly, 2009). After scholars developed a list of gifted characteristics in the 1950s, the concept of giftedness became far more controversial (Terman & Oden, 1959). Over the last 75 years, gifted education in America has gone from a shining star to complete ambiguity, owing partially to politics and partially to decentralized process (Ford, 2013; Gallagher, 2015; Hodges et al., 2018). This study included an examination of the gifted experience from the secondary to post-secondary environments. The researcher examined various qualitative and quantitative secondary data, including …

Black women remain vastly underrepresented in tenure-track positions at research universities in the United States, facing systemic barriers that hinder their academic progression. This study examines the experiences and strategies that contribute to Black women’s preparation for tenure-track positions while enrolled in doctoral programs at a predominantly white institution. Grounded in Black feminist thought coupled with an appreciative inquiry lens, this study utilized the sista circle methodology to capture the narratives of seven Black women from various academic disciplines. Findings revealed three experiences that contribute to Black women’s preparation for tenure track positions: intrinsic motivation, funding and institutional resources, and …
A Collective Case Study Of How Researchers Describe Their Experiences, Challenges, And Perceived Impact Of Patient Engagement, Lorna M. Richards
A Collective Case Study Of How Researchers Describe Their Experiences, Challenges, And Perceived Impact Of Patient Engagement, Lorna M. Richards
Doctor of Philosophy in Translational Health Sciences Dissertations
Background: Patient engagement (PE) in clinical research has become “extensively and internationally recognized as important and gained growing policy attention, supported by scientific evidence” (Al-Tannir et al., 2017, Background section). The proliferation of PE directives has driven the paradigm shift in drug development from a paternalistic approach to a more patient-centric approach influenced by regulatory agencies, funders, and academic initiatives (Bombak & Hanson, 2017). However, too often, PE activities are not well considered for discovering actionable insights but are merely an empty formality. For PE to be meaningful, patient involvement must be planned, supported, and valued by clinical researchers.

As social media has evolved into a prominent part of Gen Z’s social interaction, this study attempted to enrich our current understanding of Gen Z’s mental health struggles through their conversations surrounding anxiety on social media. Highlights of the findings included the following. First, the overwhelming presence of fear (83%) illustrates that anxiety is an emotionally draining experience for many Gen Z users. The use of emotionally charged language to publicly share their struggles with anxiety reflect increasing self-awareness and a cultural shift toward normalizing mental health conversations. Second, the open, candid conversations on anxiety indicate that anxiety is experienced …

Staff Education To Educate Healthcare Providers On Effective Communication And Support Strategies For Child Sexual Abuse Victims, Njideka Ajemba
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
With this project, I sought to enhance the quality of care provided to child sexual abuse (CSA) survivors by improving healthcare providers’ skills in trauma-informed communication and support strategies. The project was undertaken at a large, private behavioral health facility located in the mid-Atlantic region of the United States, where an assessment of the practice environment revealed a critical gap in provider training. This gap often resulted in missed indicators of abuse, limited emotional support, and poor therapeutic outcomes for children affected by sexual abuse-related trauma. To address this, the project implemented a targeted educational intervention grounded in current evidence …

This study, which is based on the 2021 Monitoring the Future survey of 8th- and 10th-grade students in the United States, uses machine learning algorithms to identify the most important factors that influence these perceptions. Among the tested models, random forest provided the best classification performance. Using permutation-based feature importance, we identified frequent participation in schoolwork, maternal education, paternal education, and homework completion as the most important predictors of students’ graduation perceptions. These results highlight the importance of targeted and well-coordinated …

Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton As A Mystic, Sung-Hae Kim
Vincentian Studies
Sung-Hae Kim describes how three key spiritual experiences in Elizabeth Seton’s life confirm her identity as a mystic according to William James’s four characteristics of the mystic state. These traits are ineffability, noetic quality, transiency, and passivity, and such experiences must lead to union with God. Elizabeth wrote about these experiences, which occurred when she was fourteen in New Rochelle, New York; twenty-nine in the lazaretto of Livorno, Italy; and sometime near her death at the age of forty-six in Emmitsburg. As Kim says, these “purify[ied] her ability to love, leading to serene peace and union with God and his …

Islamic Premarital Education In Malaysia Through The Lens Of Moral Education, Worapong Charoenwong
Asia-Pacific Social Science Review
Premarital education in Malaysia is recognized as exemplary, given that it has become a model for the development of similar endeavors in other countries in Southeast Asia. Several studies have been conducted to evaluate the provision of premarital education in Malaysia. However, it was found that an evaluation through a moral-educational framework was missing, even though premarital education should be viewed as part of moral education. To fill this gap, this paper offers an analysis and assessment of Islamic premarital education in Malaysia through Sanger and Osguthorpe’s (2005) two-level framework. Data were collected from official documents, non-participant observation, and in-depth …

Objective. Deformable liver motion tracking using a single x-ray projection enables real-time motion monitoring and treatment intervention. We introduce a conditional point cloud diffusion (PCD) model-based framework for accurate and robust liver motion tracking from arbitrarily angled single x-ray projections. Approach. We propose a conditional PCD model for liver motion tracking (PCD-Liver), which estimates volumetric liver motion by solving deformable vector fields (DVFs) of a prior liver surface point cloud, based on a single x-ray image. It is a patient-specific model of two main components: a rigid alignment model to estimate the liver’s overall shifts, and a conditional PCD …

This study explored the effectiveness of zeolite-embedded sheets (ZESs) in the removal of these pollutants from motorcycle washing wastewater. ZESs were prepared through treatment of nonwoven sheets with Linder Type A (LTA Zeolite) powder and heat treatment, washing, and drying. Characterization was performed via scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Over a 60 min adsorption period, the ZES achieved removal …
Does Practice Make Perfect? Examining The Impact Of Text-Based Reminders On Adherence In The Helping Our Toddlers, Developing Our Children’S Skills Program, Lauren Patrusky
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Disruptive behavior disorders (DBDs) are prevalent in approximately 17% of children ages birth to 5 years (CDC, 2023). DBDs can significantly impact a child’s learning, social-emotional wellbeing, and ability to develop and maintain healthy relationship (CDC, 2023). Behavioral parent training (BPT) has been proven effective in reducing disruptive behavior and improving parent-child relationships. However, many families do not fully engage in treatment, leading to poor outcomes for both the child and the family. Chacko (2016) describes BPT engagement as enrolling in treatment, attending weekly sessions, participating in group discussions or role plays in sessions, practicing skills between sessions, and completing …
