I Think I Can: Kindergarten Teacher Perceptions On The Impact Of Loose Parts Play On Self-Efficacy Behaviors, Adena Rene Thomsa Sep 2025

I Think I Can: Kindergarten Teacher Perceptions On The Impact Of Loose Parts Play On Self-Efficacy Behaviors, Adena Rene Thomsa

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Play in the classroom is often a source of debate. The merits of play on early childhood development are well documented, especially regarding self-efficacy - an individual’s belief in their ability to perform a task or complete a goal. Self-efficacy has, in turn, been linked to academic resilience and achievement. Despite these findings, research shows a decline in unstructured play opportunities in both preschool and kindergarten. During a play intervention study, pre-kindergarten and kindergarten teachers were interviewed about student behaviors before, during, and after loose parts and other playful materials were added to their classroom environment. This thesis examines the …

Psychiatric Associations With Barriers To Use Of Mental Health Services In Medical Students, E. Cadence Rarity, Nora Newcomb, Aishwarya Vuppala, Jade Brunicardi, Kim Van, Amelia C. Phillips

Journal of Wellness

Introduction: Medical students experience stress, anxiety, and depression at rates greater than those of the general population. Medical students also underutilize mental health services. There exists a need for a comprehensive, multivariate analysis of the reasons medical students do not pursue mental health services, and the undesirable mental health outcomes that are associated with these barriers. This study associates psychiatric phenomena of stress, anxiety, and depression within the context of barriers to use of mental health services in medical students.

Methods: In this cross-sectional study, medical students (N = 128) from the University of South Florida engaged with …

Accounting For Fetal Personhood: Confronting The Implications Of Fetal Personhood On Vital Statistics Law, Alix Rogers Sep 2025

Accounting For Fetal Personhood: Confronting The Implications Of Fetal Personhood On Vital Statistics Law, Alix Rogers

San Diego Law Review

In February 2024, in LePage v. Center for Reproductive Medicine, the Alabama Supreme Court held that embryos created through in-vitro fertilization (IVF) were legal persons. The national conversation about this ruling focused on the implications for IVF treatment. The impact of fetal personhood on the realm of vital records law has, to date, gone unnoticed. Vital records laws in the United States mandate the registration and collection of data for legislatively determined vital events. Vital records law influenced by fetal personhood, as well as broader trends to criminalize pregnancy, has profound and troubling implications for individuals experiencing spontaneous abortion …

Children’S Rights At The United States-Mexico Border: Is The United States Of America Breaking International Laws?, Avery Anderson

Immigration and Human Rights Law Review

The treatment of migrant children at the United States-Mexico border has become a contentious issue worldwide. International human rights frameworks set certain standards for the treatment of migrant children, and there are growing allegations that the United States has violated international legal obligations due to its inadequate detention conditions. This article argues that while the United States is not explicitly violating international treaties due to specific reservations, its border policies are in direct contradiction with global norms for the humane treatment of children. Through a review of the legal obligations under customary international law and international treaties, this article highlights …

When Love Is Not Enough: The Muñoz Decision And The Erosion Of Family Unity In U.S. Immigration Law, Katerina Fernandez Sep 2025

When Love Is Not Enough: The Muñoz Decision And The Erosion Of Family Unity In U.S. Immigration Law, Katerina Fernandez

Immigration and Human Rights Law Review

The Supreme Court’s decision in Department of State v. Muñoz marks a significant shift in U.S. immigration law, reinforcing the doctrine of consular non-reviewability and weakening long-standing protections for family unity. Historically, marriage and family have been recognized as fundamental rights; yet, Muñoz limits judicial oversight of visa denials, allowing for indefinite separations between U.S. citizens and their non-citizen spouses. This piece examines the ruling’s legal and human rights implications, its parallels to family separation policies, and its potential to justify future erosion of parental rights in immigration enforcement. It also examines possible legal avenues to challenge arbitrary family separations, …

However, research found that many faculty do not feel prepared to incorporate transversal skills in their teaching. This article presents an innovative approach with recommendations for integrating transversal skills through curriculum enhancement and teaching methods. The authors propose a three-step framework: …

Habeas Mentem: Revisiting Sufficiency-Of-Counsel Standards In Post-Aedpa Habeas Corpus Proceedings, Alejandra S. Alvarez Sep 2025

Habeas Mentem: Revisiting Sufficiency-Of-Counsel Standards In Post-Aedpa Habeas Corpus Proceedings, Alejandra S. Alvarez

Florida Law Review

The Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996 (AEDPA) has contributed to long-standing complexities in our understanding of habeas corpus and its function as a device for judicial inquiry into the constitutionality of imprisonment. Since its passage and subsequent interpretations by Congress and the courts, criminal defendants have faced heightened challenges in seeking federal review of their state convictions. The United States Supreme Court has yet to recognize a concrete right to counsel for post-conviction proceedings--during which most criminal defendants file their habeas petitions claiming, for example, ineffective assistance of trial counsel-meaning that a large number of defendants file …

Journal of Dentomaxillofacial Science

Introduction: Pain is a biological response to orthodontic forces and a major concern during orthodontic treatment. This leads some patients to delay or avoid orthodontic treatment. Pain intensity during orthodontic treatment is generally assessed using the visual analogue scale (VAS). Pain stimulates the sympathetic adrenal medullary system, which increases salivary α-amylase (sAA) secretion. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between VAS pain intensity and alpha-amylase pain biomarker concentration during the initial stages of orthodontic tooth movement. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study. Fourteen patients requiring orthodontic treatment with maxillary premolar extraction and canine distalization using the Standard Edgewise (SE) …

Quality Improvement Project Simulation Orientation For Nursing Faculty, Emily Harvey Sep 2025

Quality Improvement Project Simulation Orientation For Nursing Faculty, Emily Harvey

Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects

Many nursing faculty are expected to teach using SIM without adequate preparation, which can limit competence in SIM-based teaching. A university-level school of nursing identified this gap and initiated a quality improvement project to strengthen faculty readiness through a structured online orientation. The intervention used the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) Essentials in Clinical SIMs Across the Health Professions and was guided by Benner’s Novice to Expert Model, Lewin’s Change Theory, and the Plan-Do-Study-Act cycle. A quasi-experimental pretest–posttest quantitative design was conducted with nursing faculty participants. The Facilitator Competency Rubric (FCR) assessed competence across five domains: preparation, prebriefing, facilitation, debriefing, …

Emotion Labor As A Catalyst For Language Teacher Identity Renewal And Well-Being: An Autoethnography, Yasser Aminifard Sep 2025

Emotion Labor As A Catalyst For Language Teacher Identity Renewal And Well-Being: An Autoethnography, Yasser Aminifard

The Qualitative Report

In this autoethnographic study, I explore how my temporary engagement in emotion labor, triggered by teaching and assessment demands imposed by my university, prompted a renewal of my teaching style and enhanced my well-being. Personal journals supplemented by semi-structured interviews with the university’s vice-chancellor, whose expectations precipitated my emotion labor, served as the primary data sources. Drawing on Engeström’s (2015) activity theory, I analyze the contradictions within my university’s activity system that gave rise to my emotion labor, understood here as the management of the negative emotions and tensions arising from discrepancies between teachers’ professional beliefs and workplace demands (Benesch, …

A Not-Quite-Assessment Of Assessing Autoethnography: Ekphrastic Compositions On Quality, Clarity, And (Un)Certainty In Autoethnography, Aaron Hoy Sep 2025

A Not-Quite-Assessment Of Assessing Autoethnography: Ekphrastic Compositions On Quality, Clarity, And (Un)Certainty In Autoethnography, Aaron Hoy

The Qualitative Report

Taking an ekphrastic approach, this essay responds to and reflects on my reading of Assessing Autoethnography: Notes on Analysis, Evaluation, and Craft by Andrew F. Herrmann and Tony E. Adams. It has three parts. First, I summarize the book’s central chapters and discuss their practical uses, especially as prompts for in-progress autoethnographies. Second, using clarity as a point of entry, I explore a tension I felt while reading the book—between the comforting utility of specific criteria and the marginalizing power of criteria themselves. Finally, I share a found poem composed in response to the book and reflect on the impermanent …

A Few Millimeters Of Bone: How Male Supremacists Leverage Scientific Sexism To Reinforce Misogynistic Ideologies, Robin O'Hanlon

Publications and Research

In recent years, male supremacist actors have reinforced their misogynistic worldviews by using narrative strategies centered on authoritative “common sense” and scientific “fact.” This paper presents a thematic narrative analysis of The Incel Wiki and the Wiki4Men, representing the first formal analysis of the wiki for the men’s rights organization A Voice for Men. The analysis indicates male supremacists use techniques including misappropriation of scientific information, manipulation of statistics, and leveraging pseudoscientific information to develop their narrative strategies of supremacy. The most consistent narrative strategies of scientific sexism on the wikis are male victimhood, denial of inequality between men and …

Paws Off My Image: Why Rights Of Publicity Should Be Expanded, Lauren Didelot

Journal of Intellectual Property Law

In our increasingly digital world, exposure to fame and fortune has become more accessible than ever, and many pet owners have taken advantage of this. The rise of “petfluencers” has called into question the extent of available rights of these celebrity animals’ owners to protect and maintain their pet’s commercial value, thus preventing instances of unfair enrichment from other’s exploitation of their beloved animals. This Note argues for the acceptance of an animal’s right of publicity. We begin with an exploration of the right of publicity itself and its current applications. Next, we will discuss the intellectual property rights currently …

Effectiveness Of An Adapted Physical Activity Program On Anxiety, Depression, And Self-Esteem On A Heterogenous Sample: A Randomized Controlled Trial, Mathilde Plard, Claire El Jor, Rebecca Shankland, Quentin Hallez Sep 2025

Effectiveness Of An Adapted Physical Activity Program On Anxiety, Depression, And Self-Esteem On A Heterogenous Sample: A Randomized Controlled Trial, Mathilde Plard, Claire El Jor, Rebecca Shankland, Quentin Hallez

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

In recent decades, numerous studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of Adapted Physical Activity (APA) interventions in improving the mental health of individuals. However, a limitation of these studies is their predominant focus on homogeneous groups, characterized by similar diseases or disorders and characteristics. Thus, effects associated with these groups may largely account for the observed benefits, rather than the physical activity itself. This study aimed to investigate the impact of an eight-week APA intervention on anxiety, depression, and self-esteem in a heterogeneous group of participants with diverse health conditions and ages. Participants were randomly assigned to either an experimental group …

Establishing Discriminative Control In Multioperant Settings, Stephanie A. Bonfonte Sep 2025

Establishing Discriminative Control In Multioperant Settings, Stephanie A. Bonfonte

Doctoral Dissertations - College of Arts and Sciences

The development of functional communication is an important goal for individuals diagnosed with autism. It is common to begin with dense schedules of reinforcement when establishing mands, however schedule thinning is important for meaningful treatment outcomes. Although multiple schedules can be used to bring behavior under discriminative control and avoid high rates of manding when a reinforcer is unavailable, it is important to extend research to multioperant environments in which several reinforcers may be available simultaneously or at different times. We evaluated a method for establishing discriminative control over multiple distinct mands. Our findings demonstrated discriminative control over several mand …

Women Clergy Members' Perceptions Of Mentorship Strategies For Leader Development, Linda Ann Brady Sep 2025

Women Clergy Members' Perceptions Of Mentorship Strategies For Leader Development, Linda Ann Brady

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

According to recent studies, women were underrepresented in senior leadership in the global Christian church, and leadership pathways for the development of women were often lacking. The local problem within the International Christian Church (ICC) was a lack of understanding of holistic mentoring strategies that support the development of women clergy members, which could help fill the current leadership gap. Guided by Dahlvig and Longman’s model of women’s leadership development, the purpose of this basic qualitative study was to explore the perceptions of women clergy regarding holistic mentoring strategies that might increase the number of women in leadership within the …
