Emotional Valence In Sustainable Fashion Advertising And The Cognitive And Affective Drivers Of Consumer Response As Determinants Of Digital Engagement Behavior, Cassidy Jane Cisz Jan 2026

Emotional Valence In Sustainable Fashion Advertising And The Cognitive And Affective Drivers Of Consumer Response As Determinants Of Digital Engagement Behavior, Cassidy Jane Cisz

Theses and Dissertations

The dominance of the linear value chain and its perpetuation of overconsumption create persistent barriers to sustainable fashion brands in their effort to articulate a value proposition that justifies the price premium associated with ethical and sustainable production. To address this challenge and remain competitive within a marketplace dominated by low-cost fast fashion, these brands must differentiate through appeals that clearly reflect their values, mission, and climate commitments. While advertisements for sustainable goods use a broad set of persuasive strategies, this study evaluates two dominant emotional appeals, Positive Environmental Appeals (PEA) and Negative Environmental Appeals (NEA), both of which are …

Violence, Alcoholism, And Marriage In Nineteenth Century New York, Gina Rossetti Jan 2026

Violence, Alcoholism, And Marriage In Nineteenth Century New York, Gina Rossetti

Theses and Dissertations

There is a wealth of information regarding the various facets of nineteenth century American history. However, the topic of uxoricide, husband-perpetrated wife murder, has not been the focus of many American historians. Women, particularly in middle- and working-class families, tackled a variety of challenges as American society was enduring many social and cultural changes. Every day women have been often kept in the background of previous historical narratives and were rarely the focus of previous literature. This dissertation places ordinary women as the focal point by examining the questions of how changes in American society, regarding alcohol consumption and views …

No significant interaction effects were found between disability status and other demographic variables, suggesting that students …

Biogothic: New Directions In The Haunted Spaces Of Nineteenth Century Gothic Fiction, Jessica Mintzes Jan 2026

Biogothic: New Directions In The Haunted Spaces Of Nineteenth Century Gothic Fiction, Jessica Mintzes

Theses and Dissertations

The BioGothic is a set of biological metaphors in nineteenth century Gothic fiction that anticipates our contemporary understanding of what we now think of as biological processes. The BioGothic system in the novel captures the site of connection and interaction between the body and the interior spaces it inhabits. The Gothic genre, from its inception, shifts the focus onto interior spaces and the ways in which architectural spaces and the Gothic body interact with one another. This demonstrates, in part, how physical space and biological matter are not only capable of becoming integrated with each other, but also maintain the …

With the general population’s recent and dramatic increase in the frequency of ChatGPT and other similar Artificial Intelligence Generated Content (AIGC) usage throughout various industries, gray areas are becoming more prominent regarding whether ChatGPT is considered to be ethical or unethical in certain situations. Examples of unethical use of ChatGPT include plagiarism, the use of inaccurate information in drawing conclusions, and the creation of malicious code that negatively impacts various companies. Not all of these ethical concerns are necessarily the fault of the user or the AIGC. To date, peer-reviewed research on the ethical usage of ChatGPT is limited, primarily …

An Analysis Of The Impact Of Cognitive Writing Strategies On High School Writing Scores In A Suburban Tennessee District, Bethany A. Wilson

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

The 2011 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) writing assessment revealed that only 27% of eighth and 12th graders are proficient in writing. The federal No Child Left Behind and Every Student Succeeds Acts have put pressure on schools to demonstrate proficiency on reading and math tests, leaving minimal time for instruction in other subjects, including writing. In addition to the pressure of standardized testing, teachers also find themselves underprepared to teach writing and overwhelmed by the demands of large teaching loads. While researchers have reported benefits associated with cognitive writing strategies since the 1960s, instructional demands have prevented …

Imposter Phenomenon And Leadership Effectiveness In Female Leaders: Exploring The Roles Of Intellectual Humility, Perfectionism, And Mentorship, Christina Clarke

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

First identified by Clance and Imes in 1978, Imposter Phenomenon describes a widespread psychological experience marked by persistent self-doubt, difficulties in accepting personal achievements, and a fear of being exposed as an unqualified "fraud" despite demonstrated competence. For over 45 years, most research on IP has primarily focused on its negative impacts, both personally and professionally, although limited recent studies have highlighted some positive aspects. While IP doesn’t differ amongst groups, most of the research and layman’s content on IP is associated with females. Drawing on empirical data that gender-diverse leadership outperforms homogeneous leadership teams, this research seeks to address …

“We’Re Going To Notwithstand That Legislation”:Trans Rights In Saskatchewan And The Unmaking Of Charter Rights, Kyle Kirkup

The Supreme Court Law Review, Third Series: Osgoode's Annual Constitutional Cases Conference

The Government of Saskatchewan introduced its Use of Preferred First Name and Pronouns by Students educational policy in August 2023. In response, UR Pride Centre for Sexuality and Gender Diversity sought a declaration that the policy violated sections 7 and 15(1) of the Charter, and that neither could be saved by section 1. To the extent that the policy required school personnel to out, deadname, and misgender students under the age of 16 absent consent from parents or guardians, UR Pride argued that the policy be declared of no force or effect under section 52 of the Constitution Act, 1982. …

Understanding Parents’ Information Seeking About Adolescents’ Use Of Social Apps Using Theory Of Motivated Information Management, Aimee E. Miller-Ott, Lynne Kelly, Caleb T. Carr

Faculty Publications - Communications

Many parents have concerns about what their adolescent children are doing online, including potential risks of their tweens and teens encountering people who may want to harm them. Some fear they do not know what their children are doing online and may be motivated to seek information to alleviate their uncertainty. This study applied the theory of motivated information management (TMIM) to examine parents’ information management process amid feelings of uncertainty surrounding their adolescent children’s use of social apps. Respondents (N =146) were parents/caregivers of adolescent children recruited using Prolific to complete a survey measuring the components of TMIM …

Confessions Of A Beginning Dutch Learner, Kristin Lems Jan 2026

Confessions Of A Beginning Dutch Learner, Kristin Lems

Faculty Publications

I have studied, taught about, and learned new languages throughout my lifespan. In fact, it has been the very core of my teaching career.  Now, I have the humbling experience of testing those truths against a new enterprise:  learning Dutch.  I spent last summer in the Netherlands, pursuing family roots and acquiring what Dutch I could.  I took no formal classes but did attend a free dropin class at the local library, where - believe me - I was the lowest learner in the lowest group! Here are some of my insights, from notes taken during that summer:

The Emerging Social Media Water Cooler? Motivations For Reddit Use In A Niche League, Jan Boehmer, Brendan O'Hallarn Jan 2026

The Emerging Social Media Water Cooler? Motivations For Reddit Use In A Niche League, Jan Boehmer, Brendan O'Hallarn

Communication & Theatre Arts Faculty Publications

Social media play a key role in sport marketing—with athletes, teams, and leagues directly engaging with their audiences. While Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter have received much attention in the sport marketing and communication literature, research on Reddit is scant. This is particularly noteworthy, as the platform is growing rapidly and promises utility for users with nonmainstream interests to find and engage with each other. This study employs a uses and gratifications approach to investigate how prevalent Reddit use is among fans of the United Football League (UFL), what motivates users to engage with the platform, and whether Reddit use leads …

A Democratic Consultative Constitutionalism For Marxist-Leninist (Socialist) Political Systems—The Theory And Structure Of “Whole Process People’S Democracy” (全过程人民民主), Larry Catá Backer Jan 2026

A Democratic Consultative Constitutionalism For Marxist-Leninist (Socialist) Political Systems—The Theory And Structure Of “Whole Process People’S Democracy” (全过程人民民主), Larry Catá Backer

American University International Law Review

The Chinese Socialist (Marxist-Leninist) constitutional order has recently fully elaborated a theory and practice of democracy, one that has been offered as an alternative model to liberal democratic theory and practice. In contemporary China, this evolution has taken concrete form as the form of 全过程人民民主 (Whole Process People’s Democracy (WPPD)). This essay examines this emerging theory of Chinese democracy both within the structure of Chinese constitutionalism and as an expression of its Marxist-Leninist foundations. The essence of the distinction of this form of democratic theory with classical liberal democracy is the centrality of consultation rather than elections in this system; …

The Association Between Personal Particulate Matter Exposures And Cognitive Function Among Stroke Patients, Kentucky, Usa, Nana Afua Ankomah Dei

Theses and Dissertations--Public Health (M.P.H. & Dr.P.H.)

Stroke, a major cause of long-term disability and cognitive problems in the U.S., significantly affects people’s quality of life. Exposure to particulate matter (PM2.5) may result in systemic inflammation and oxidative stress, which can worsen the cognitive function of post-thrombectomy stroke patients. This project thus assessed the relationship between PM2.5 exposure and its effect on the cognitive function of post-thrombectomy stroke patients. Fifteen stroke patients (9 non-Appalachian and 6 Appalachian) undergone thrombectomy were recruited. Personal PM2.5 exposure was measured using wearable sensors for a week during the study period. Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) scores and covariates …

Closest Yet Farthest: Zhou Li And The Boundaries Of Contemporary Chinese Art, Langcheng Zhou Jan 2026

Closest Yet Farthest: Zhou Li And The Boundaries Of Contemporary Chinese Art, Langcheng Zhou

Pomona Senior Theses

The global visibility of contemporary Chinese art has been formed by politically legible or culturally identifiable styles, which often explicitly reference social critique, political history, or traditional Chinese visual elements and media. Because of the rapid expansion of the global art market, these visual identifiers quickly became the most effortless and efficient determinants for an artwork’s representativeness of the contemporary Chinese art scene. This framing undeniably helped international audiences to establish a recognizable narrative, but has also narrowed the range of practices that define the field. This thesis argues that Zhou Li’s abstract practice expands the boundaries of what contemporary …

Civil And Criminal Justice Remedies For Intimate Partner Violence, Demetrice M. Lopez, Anika Ramos

Hunter Center Publications

Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a persistent public health problem that impacts the physical and mental health of millions of people each year. The United States has historically relied on the legal system as the primary means of addressing IPV as a criminal or civil infraction. This chapter begins with a review of the history of IPV in the context of the legal system. It then considers the dynamics of IPV and its influence on the legal response. The chapter then looks at the broader impact of IPV and remedies for survivors in the justice system. Finally, it considers the …

Now, How Shall We Be? This Cultural Moment And Our Christian Response: Chapter 1: Old Moorings, Ken Badley Jan 2026

Now, How Shall We Be? This Cultural Moment And Our Christian Response: Chapter 1: Old Moorings, Ken Badley

Faculty Publications - College of Education

As we embark on this book's quest to understand this cultural moment and possible Christian responses to it, we will begin in this chapter by considering several anchor points to which western civilization previously tied itself. For the most part, these old moorings provided an agreed-upon worldview that brought security and meaning to society. Over time, as people's perspectives changed, our culture slipped away from its previous sources of confidence or even certainty. Before we begin to explore our current, unmoored, cultural moment, we need to survey, at least briefly, what these old moorings were and why they have faded …
