Emotional Intelligence Training In Physician Assistant Education: Comparing Workshops Alone To Workshops Plus Coaching, Mickey Lebowitz, William Holmes
Emotional Intelligence Training In Physician Assistant Education: Comparing Workshops Alone To Workshops Plus Coaching, Mickey Lebowitz, William Holmes
Innovations in Health Sciences Education Journal
Introduction
Clinicians and health care students with higher emotional intelligence (EQ) are more likely to experience positive outcomes for themselves and their patients. Given these benefits and EQ’s learnability, teaching EQ to health care students has been suggested. Therefore, we aimed to assess the impact of workshops combined with coaching (W+C) relative to workshops only (WO) on PA students’ EQ, and, as an outcome measure, their feelings of success. Additionally, we investigated whether these impacts depend on students’ baseline EQ.
Method
Using the Six Seconds Emotional Intelligence Inventory, we retrospectively tracked first- and second-year changes in EQ and success scores …
Cripping The Border – Acompañamiento As Access: An Ethnographic Case Study Of Transborder Youth With Disabilities, Marco O. Amaral
Cripping The Border – Acompañamiento As Access: An Ethnographic Case Study Of Transborder Youth With Disabilities, Marco O. Amaral
Dissertations
The U.S.-Mexico border is a historical, geopolitical site of intense militarization where colonial logics of "othering" converge to marginalize disabled transborder youth. While transborder studies have expanded, students with disabilities remain relegated to the "void" and contained by educational systems that prioritize surveillance over access. Grounded in Sepúlveda’s (2011) acompañamiento and Transborder DisCrit, this ethnographic case study examines the lived experiences of both students and their families who cross the border daily to attend school in the U.S. It frames these journeys not as mere commutes, but as acts of defiance within the broader disability rights movement.

The Effect Of Vestibular System Stimulation On Emotional Regulation In Children With Disabilities, Mickayla N. Coyle
Student Capstone Papers
This capstone project is a mixed-methods research study that aimed to identify the impact of vestibular system stimulation on emotional regulation in children with disabilities. Throughout this research study, swing use was used as vestibular stimulation to identify its effectiveness in improving emotional regulation in children with disabilities. The study was conducted over the course of six weeks in a school-based setting. The results of this research study are indicative that using a swing as a vestibular input is an effective intervention to manage emotional regulation in children with disabilities. Utilization of linear swinging at the beginning of occupational therapy …
Exploring The Perceptions Of Black Nurse Educators Regarding Antiracist Pedagogy In Nursing Education, Deborah Ann Stallworth
Exploring The Perceptions Of Black Nurse Educators Regarding Antiracist Pedagogy In Nursing Education, Deborah Ann Stallworth
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Racism remains a persistent issue in nursing, prompting calls to create more inclusive educational environments and confront racial disparities. Guided by an intersectionality and critical realism framework, this generic qualitative study examined how Black nursing educators perceive antiracist pedagogy, how they implement it, and what they believe is needed to strengthen its adoption in nursing education. Twelve Black undergraduate nursing educators participated in in‑depth, one‑on‑one interviews. Thematic analysis generated four themes: (a) implementing antiracist pedagogy in the classroom; (b) challenges and resistance within school environments; (c) racial marginalization norms in nursing education, and (d) advocacy and vision for institutional reform …
Evaluating Resistance Training Knowledge Among Secondary School Educators And Coaches: Development And Impact Of A Professional Development Program, Josh Redden
Doctorate in Kinesiology
Resistance training is a critical component of health-related fitness in secondary education, yet research has consistently demonstrated that physical education teachers and coaches lack sufficient content knowledge to effectively instruct and supervise these programs. This action research study evaluated resistance training content knowledge among physical education (PE) teachers, adapted physical education (APE) teachers, and sport coaches within a Louisiana school district and assessed the impact of a one-hour asynchronous professional development course delivered via school district email. Twenty-six participants completed pre- and post-assessments using a 20-item instrument developed through a modified Delphi process with an expert panel. Data were analyzed …

Social Workers’ Perceptions Of The Prevalence Of Cyberbullying Among Post-Primary Education Students In The Sultanate Of Oman, Fawziya Al Saidi, Saif Bin Naser Al-Maamri, Rahma Al Badawi
Journal of Arts and Social Sciences
The current study addressed one of the most important problems facing human societies, which is the phenomenon of cyberbullying, applied to the Sultanate of Oman. The study followed a mixed approach, represented by the documentary and qualitative approaches - the grounded theory method. The study community represented documents related to cyberbullying in terms of its nature, forms, parties, effects, and strategies to confront it. A sample of experts in basic education schools, numbering 8 experts, and semi-standardized interview questions were used as a tool to monitor their perceptions, while verifying the necessary values of objectivity and reliability. The results of …

Career Adaptability Of Prospective Teachers With Disabilities In Indonesia: A Phenomenological Study, Rr Dwi Umi Badriyah, Erfan Ramadhani, Ramtia Darma Putri, Syska Purnama Sari, Amândio De Araújo Sarmento, Kadek Suhardita
Jurnal Kajian Bimbingan dan Konseling
Pre-service teachers with disabilities face career transitions shaped by personal aspirations, accessibility barriers, stigma, and limited role models. In Indonesia, little is known about how they build career readiness for teaching within inclusive unequal educational contexts. This study explores the career adaptability of pre-service teachers with disabilities in Indonesia. Grounded in Career Construction Theory, it examines concern, control, curiosity, and confidence, while extending the framework by considering resilience and flexibility as relevant dimensions. A qualitative phenomenological design was used. Twenty-five students with disabilities enrolled in Primary School Teacher Education and Special Education programs at an Indonesian university participated in semi-structured …
Exploring How Long-Term Residents Influence Environmental Policy Decisions In The Takushara Settlement In Abuja, Nigeria, Agbanusi Uchechukwu Jonathan
Exploring How Long-Term Residents Influence Environmental Policy Decisions In The Takushara Settlement In Abuja, Nigeria, Agbanusi Uchechukwu Jonathan
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Rapid urbanization of Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has increasingly marginalized indigenous communities, creating a significant disconnect between top-down environmental governance and how it affects residents. Previous research has found that this land swap displaces indigenous stewards and erodes their traditional ecological knowledge, endangering local livelihoods, food security, and sustainable management of natural resources. The purpose of this narrative qualitative study was to explore how long-term residents perceive and experience their influence in environmental policy decisions through the lens of the social-ecological systems framework and the theory of resilience. This study examined the systematic exclusion of long-term residents of the …
"Deep In The Trenches": A Multi-Perspective Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis Of Student Mothers Navigating The Hidden Realities Of Postpartum Anxiety, Rhonda Harris
Theses and Dissertations
Despite availability of effective treatments women with postpartum anxiety (PPA) commonly go untreated because of barriers to care. Student mothers are a particularly vulnerable subgroup of women as they tend to be younger, are less likely to be married, and have lower incomes than non-student mothers. As anxiety rates in college women are higher than the general population and higher than college men, student mothers are at high risk of the adverse effects of untreated PPA. There is a paucity of existing literature about student mothers and mental health. The aim of the current study is to understand the help-seeking …
Elliott’S Embodied Inclusion 360 Framework: A Holistic Approach To Supporting Neurodiverse Individuals, Niki Elliott Ph.D.
Elliott’S Embodied Inclusion 360 Framework: A Holistic Approach To Supporting Neurodiverse Individuals, Niki Elliott Ph.D.
Neuroinclusion
The embodied inclusion (EI) 360 framework asserts that authentic inclusion requires adapting environments in support of neurodiverse learners. The EI 360 model offers an urgently needed synthesis of intersecting theories and practices that are too often addressed in silos: educational neuroscience, trauma-informed teaching, social–emotional learning, inclusive education, and culturally responsive pedagogy. The framework identifies five core domains (i.e., physiological, relational, environmental, instructional, and transcendental) that form a cohesive lens through which to understand and respond to learner needs. Each domain contributes valuable insight into neurodiverse learner neurobiology, replacing fragmented, incomplete support plans with an integrated, individualized profile of a learner’s …
Exploring Sequential Technical Practices Towards Skill Development And Musical Expression In Violin Performance And String Pedagogy Methods, Erin Kim
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
This dissertation proposes the Erin Kim System, a pedagogical framework designed to support sequential technical development and musical expression in beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels of violin performance. This system examines how structured technical progression, guided repertoire sequencing, and a nurturing learning environment with the teacher and parents can foster skill acquisition and long-term musical engagement among violin students. Musical enjoyment and inspiration serve as primary motivators for learning, particularly when students are encouraged to work toward performing aspirational repertoire such as the Sibelius Violin Concerto. By organizing repertoire and supplemental exercises in a clear step-by-step process, this system enables …

Facing The Accused: The Confrontation Clause And Protecting Child Victims Of Sexual Abuse, Raquel Pearson
Facing The Accused: The Confrontation Clause And Protecting Child Victims Of Sexual Abuse, Raquel Pearson
Idaho Law Review
The Sixth Amendment’s Confrontation Clause provides individuals the right to confront witnesses testifying against them. For decades, Idaho case law has grappled with the delicate balance between protecting victims of sexual assault and upholding defendants’ rights to cross examine their accusers. This delicate balance is further exacerbated when sexual assault cases involve minors, particularly in deciding whether victim statements implicate the Confrontation Clause. The Idaho Supreme Court considers the totality of the circumstances when evaluating whether a defendant’s right to confront a witness has been violated, but the standard for when the Clause is triggered remains unclear.

From Stigma To Statute: A Historical And Legal Comparative Analysis Of Involuntary Commitment Laws In Idaho, Jessica Cambron
From Stigma To Statute: A Historical And Legal Comparative Analysis Of Involuntary Commitment Laws In Idaho, Jessica Cambron
Idaho Law Review
A lesser-known area of law in Idaho concerns the involuntary civil commitment process, a process by which thousands of people per year are committed to hospitals around the state. These laws, specifically in Idaho, govern the criteria which must be met for a person to be placed on an involuntary hold, detained in a hospital setting awaiting proceedings, or potentially committed.
Understanding the evolution of mental illness and the role of involuntary commitment – including successes, failures, and challenges – is essential to navigating reform. This Comment provides a brief history of mental illness, including key cultural events and cases …

From Imposter To Expert: Building Students Confidence And Professional Identity, Megan E. Rodgers
Research Days
Goal of the session: This workshop transforms how graduate students experience imposter syndrome by providing evidence-based strategies for building authentic confidence and professional identity. Rather than simply normalizing imposter feelings, participants learn to recognize cognitive distortions, document their expertise development, and construct professional identities rooted in genuine competence. By session's end, participants will have concrete tools for challenging self-doubt in real-time and a foundational professional identity statement reflecting their unique strengths and values. Topics covered: Three core areas are addressed: the psychological mechanisms of imposter syndrome, including the imposter cycle and cognitive distortions such as all-or-nothing thinking; evidence-based confidence building …
Humanizing Engineering For Preservice Elementary Teachers Through Sustainable Engineering Stories, Jeffrey D. Radloff, Madison M. Morris, Jacob Pleasants
Humanizing Engineering For Preservice Elementary Teachers Through Sustainable Engineering Stories, Jeffrey D. Radloff, Madison M. Morris, Jacob Pleasants
Journal of Pre-College Engineering Education Research (J-PEER)
Meeting the goals of US K–12 science education reform requires that preservice elementary teachers (PSTs) understand engineering as a specialized discipline and a human endeavor that addresses real-world issues. Yet in their formal education, few PSTs receive opportunities to learn about the humanistic dimensions of engineering: engineers’ personal values and motivations, the sociocultural nature of engineering work, and the societal significance of engineering. Storytelling about engineering offers a practical way to give PSTs access to these ideas. This study examines the impacts of integrating storytelling about engineering in a science methods course for future elementary school teachers. Over a two-year …

When The Caregiver Becomes The Wounded, Gracelin L. Young
ATU Scholars Symposium
Burnout among critical care nurses (CCNs) is a substantial threat to nurse well-being, patient safety, and workforce stability. The aim of this paper is to identify risk factors contributing to burnout in CCNs using evidence-based articles. An organized literature search was conducted using CINAHL with key terms including critical care nurses, burnout, risk factors, compassion fatigue, and work environment. Five recent peer-reviewed studies meeting inclusion criteria were chosen. The results validate that risk for burnout is vastly influenced by emotional exhaustion, chronic workplace stress, high patient acuity, sleep disturbances, compassion fatigue, insufficient support, and organizational strain. Findings suggest that burnout …
Wellbeing And Success: Examining The Experiences Of Neurodiverse College Students, Kate Herrmann, Dr. Michael Bordieri, Phd
Wellbeing And Success: Examining The Experiences Of Neurodiverse College Students, Kate Herrmann, Dr. Michael Bordieri, Phd
Steeplechase: An ORCA Student Journal
Evidence suggests that autistic students are graduating at a lower rate than their neurotypical peers (38.8% vs 52.4%; Jackson et al., 2018). Given this retention concern, colleges should provide services specific to neurodiverse students’ needs and wellbeing, both academically and socially, yet most campus disability resources focus solely on academic support (Jackson et al., 2018; Siew et al., 2017). In recent years, some universities have started adopting programs that target the broader social and emotional needs of neurodiverse students, specifically by fostering community and authenticity (Fotheringham et al., 2023; Siew et al., 2017). Building on recent qualitative findings from neurodiverse …
Examining Outcomes Of Client Education Interventions To Reduce Caffeine Intake In The College-Age Population, Mackenzie Leonard, Mikayla Evans
Examining Outcomes Of Client Education Interventions To Reduce Caffeine Intake In The College-Age Population, Mackenzie Leonard, Mikayla Evans
James Madison Undergraduate Research Journal (JMURJ)
This scoping review aimed to explore health interventions that address excessive caffeine consumption in college students aged 18–23 years. Excess caffeine intake is associated with a range of health concerns, including neurological, cardiovascular, and behavioral issues, highlighting the need for effective interventions to mitigate its impact on overall wellness. The literature exploring interventions aimed at modifying health behaviors among the college student population is notably limited. Furthermore, there has been a lack of studies replicating interventions aimed at reducing caffeine intake. These gaps suggested the need for further investigation and exploration of reports pertaining to health promotion. The results of …
