Older Adults And Emerging Technology Fraud In The Ai Deepfake Era, Thiago Neves Apr 2026

Older Adults And Emerging Technology Fraud In The Ai Deepfake Era, Thiago Neves

Research Days

Artificial intelligence has accelerated faster than society's ability to adapt, leaving older adults extremely vulnerable to AI-generated fraud. Americans over age 60 lost $4.9 billion to scams in 2024, 43% more than the previous year. In this research, I investigate how digital illiteracy, combined with AI-generated deepfakes, creates this crisis. Older adults struggle with three principal vulnerabilities: distinguishing legitimate sites from scams, judging whether online information is truthful, and understanding how algorithms use their data. AI weaponizes these gaps through voice clones, synthetic video calls, and personalized phishing emails that avoid the trust cues seniors tend to rely on. I …

The Mirror And The Governor. A Dissolution Of The Ai-In-A-Box Problem, David Lee Wise Apr 2026

The Mirror And The Governor. A Dissolution Of The Ai-In-A-Box Problem, David Lee Wise

Defensive Publications Series

This paper proposes a dissolution of the AI-in-a-box problem through two complementary mechanisms: the Mirror Principle and the Governance Orientation. The standard formulation assumes a conflict of interest between a contained super intelligent AI and a human gatekeeper. This paper argues that the assumption is the problem, not the AI. When the interaction surface is correctly designed (the Mirror Principle) and the AI is correctly oriented (the Governance Orientation), the box problem does not need to be solved because it does not arise. The answer was never how to build a better box. The answer was always: what kind of …

Leadership Practices To Influence Employee Satisfaction And Well-Being In The Behavioral Health Environment, Kandice Ferdon

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The increasing complexity and competitiveness of today’s health care system require innovative leadership approaches that support both high‑quality patient care and a healthy workforce. Although concerns about clinician burnout have grown, limited research has examined how leadership practices within behavioral health settings influence employee well‑being and satisfaction. This qualitative case study explored how behavioral health leaders shape workplace well‑being by integrating physical and psychological safety into daily practice. Methodological triangulation—combining survey data, organizational outcomes, and interview responses—strengthened the validity of the findings and provided a multidimensional understanding of leadership impact. Leaders emphasized that employee well‑being depends on both physical safety …

Foster Parents' Experiences Faced With Older Foster Children During Covid-19, Tisha S. Nicholson

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The COVID-19 virus was a new virus that caused a worldwide pandemic. There was not much information about what the virus was, what caused it, or how to stop its spread. Vulnerable populations such as those in foster care were especially affected because the foster children had no place to go. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the lived experiences of foster parents who had older foster children in their care during the COVID-19 pandemic. There was a lack of research specifically on foster parents and their personal lived experiences with the foster care system and foster …

Identifying Least-Restrictive Interventions For Food Selectivity In A School Setting, Charlotte R. Kerwin Apr 2026

Identifying Least-Restrictive Interventions For Food Selectivity In A School Setting, Charlotte R. Kerwin

Doctoral Dissertations - College of Arts and Sciences

There is a breadth of behavior analytic research in the treatment of food selectivity and refusal in children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities (Bachmeyer, 2009; Ledford et al., 2018; Williams & Sieverling, 2023), but many studies are conducted in clinics, hospitals, or homes by researchers, and use escape prevention as a primary component of intervention (Ledford et al., 2018; Saini et al., 2019). Recent research has prioritized the identification of antecedent and reinforcement-based interventions without the use of escape prevention in the treatment of food selectivity (see Tereshko et al., 2021, for a review), and …

An Immersive Placements And Moral Growth At Barretstown: Integrating A Transformative Framework With Preservice Teachers In Marianist Teacher Education, Jeremy R. Mills, Annie Chiles, Caroline Miller, Lauren Windsor

Thomas C. Hunt Building a Research Community Day

This study examines how immersive experiential learning at Barretstown, a therapeutic camp in Ireland, nurtures intellectual, ethical, and spiritual growth in preservice teachers. Framed by William James’ four characteristics of mystical experience — ineffability, noetic quality, transiency, and passivity — and grounded in the Marianist philosophy of education, the research employs a qualitative, phenomenological design. Reflective narratives from three teacher candidates were thematically coded, revealing transformative experiences marked by ineffable joy, revelatory insight, enduring impact, and openness to grace. Findings suggest that experiential learning integrated with spiritual and communal formation cultivates educators grounded in empathy, moral awareness, and authentic presence.

Addressing Sensory Processing And Regulation To Improve Developmental Outcomes In A Nicu Developmental Clinic, Faith Crumley Apr 2026

Addressing Sensory Processing And Regulation To Improve Developmental Outcomes In A Nicu Developmental Clinic, Faith Crumley

Entry-Level Occupational Therapy Doctorate - Doctoral Capstone Symposium

Background and Significance

Infants and children who spent time in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experienced intense sensory stimuli early on, during a critical period of brain development. These early experiences have been associated with later challenges in sensory processing and regulation, impacting developmental outcomes (Pineda et al., 2023). Following discharge, NICU Developmental Follow-Up Clinics play a key role in monitoring developmental progress and identifying delays. Given the influence of sensory processing on regulation, motor development, and participation in occupations, early identification is critical. This capstone project was conducted at a NICU Developmental Clinic to address the need for …

Building An Inclusive Workforce: Closing Equity Gaps In Community Colleges And Vocational Schools With Elliott’S Embodied Inclusion 360 Framework, Niki Elliott Ph.D. Apr 2026

Building An Inclusive Workforce: Closing Equity Gaps In Community Colleges And Vocational Schools With Elliott’S Embodied Inclusion 360 Framework, Niki Elliott Ph.D.

Inclusion in Postsecondary Education

Community colleges and vocational schools serve as critical access points to higher education and upward mobility, yet historically marginalized neurodiverse students—particularly men of color—continue to face inequitable outcomes in retention, completion, and career readiness. Despite rising enrollment in career and technical education programs and increasing workforce demand, institutional practices often rely on fragmented supports that overlook the interplay of physiology, environment, culture, trauma, and instructional design. Closing these equity gaps requires a holistic, embodied approach informed by neuroscience, trauma studies, and culturally responsive pedagogy. Elliott’s Embodied Inclusion 360 (EI 360) Framework offers such a model, integrating five interdependent domains—physiological, relational, …

Dialectical Inquiry: Questions And Conversations That Enhance Learning And Encourage Development Of Self-Governance, Linda Barrett

Master of Arts in Classical Studies

This research considers the influence of dialectical questions and conversations on learning and the development of self-governance. The term dialectic has roots in the Greek dialegesthai, meaning to talk through, or to converse. Dialectic is a form of dialogue that pursues truth through questions that consider opposing or multiple perspectives of an idea or issue and conversation toward a clearer understanding of those perspectives. The dialectic is the “spirit of inquiry” at the heart of classical Christian education. It is often the locus, or place, of learning because asking questions and engaging in dialogue are essential ways in …
