Service Through Empowerment, Samantha Oritz, Emma Schuele, Faith Robak

Celebrating Scholarship and Creativity Day (2018-)

This community-engaged learning project explored the impact of community support on the reintegration of previously incarcerated men through our volunteer work at the Overcomers International Fellowship (OIF) Dream Center. The Dream Center is a nonprofit organization that provides residents with housing, mental health support, education, and employment resources to help them transition back into society. As volunteers, we conducted empowerment interviews, reviewed case studies, and supported daily operations while building meaningful relationships with residents. Through these interactions, we not only learned about their individual experiences but also saw how having a strong support system can influence personal growth and overall …

Effect Of Music Therapy And Music Focused Interventions On Fall Rates In A Memory Care Unit, Emily Spanier, Cassie Howe, Hannah Reiter, Paige Mauer

Celebrating Scholarship and Creativity Day (2018-)

This quality improvement project examined the effect of music therapy and activity-focused interventions on fall rates in a memory care unit at a long-term care facility. The project was developed after staff identified falls as a major safety concern, with the memory care unit accounting for a disproportionate number of facility-wide falls. Through audits and observations, the team found that boredom, wandering, restlessness, and lack of meaningful engagement were common contributing factors to falls among residents with dementia. To address this issue, the team implemented low-cost, person-centered interventions including playing familiar music through Alexa, encouraging participation in simple arts and …

The Impact Of Hybrid Insulin Peptides On The Two-Phase Decline Of C-Peptide In Type 1 Diabetes, Ashley Mehl Apr 2026

The Impact Of Hybrid Insulin Peptides On The Two-Phase Decline Of C-Peptide In Type 1 Diabetes, Ashley Mehl

Celebrating Scholarship and Creativity Day (2018-)

This research aims to determine how the formation of hybrid insulin peptides (HIPs) contributes to the two-phase decline of C-peptide production in type 1 diabetes (T1D). C-peptide is used to determine the level of insulin production within human pancreatic beta-cells because it is secreted in equimolar amounts with mature insulin peptide. The two-phase decline is characterized by an initial rapid and exponential loss of beta-cell function, followed by a prolonged plateau phase of residual insulin secretion. During this plateau phase, residual beta-cells continue to generate HIPs through both enzymatic transpeptidation and spontaneous formation via anhydride intermediates. These processes are problematic …

Facsimiles, Russell Soh Apr 2026

Facsimiles, Russell Soh

Student Theses

An excerpt:

Hi Everyone, I’m currently in the process of organizing and sketching out a series of prose proems based on a small multitude of notes I’ve accrued over the last six months. These notes are essentially notes towards the writing of various poems (around 8). The idea is basically to turn these notes, or these would-be poems, into a series of abstracted ‘facsimiles’, like tangible ghosts trapped in a simulacrum of the poem. I need to be reacquainted with the prose poem, or at least my idea of it.

Wellness By Design: Leadership And Learning Practices For Well-Being In Arts Management, Ashleigh Olander Apr 2026

Wellness By Design: Leadership And Learning Practices For Well-Being In Arts Management, Ashleigh Olander

Student Theses

Leading with a culture of care is the art of wellness-based design. The arts are often seen as places for healing and community connection; however, arts institutions themselves frequently function in ways that undermine well-being. The systems in place do not promote wellness, nor do they dedicate resources to maintaining the vitality of staff. Wellness initiatives in the arts are ordinarily based on programming, rather than embedded into the foundation of the organization. Although engaging with the arts as a whole elevates wellness, it is challenging to find an arts institution designed with wellness practices in mind. There is a …

Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Sciences Faculty Articles and Research

Ongoing climate warming may profoundly impact terrestrial gross primary productivity (GPP), a key component of the global carbon cycle. However, uncertainty in the relative roles of atmospheric water demand (vapor pressure deficit, VPD) and root-zone soil moisture (SM) limits predictions of drought impacts on GPP. Here, we show that growing-season GPP was more strongly constrained by VPD than SM globally, based on observation-constrained model estimates, satellite retrievals and Dynamic Global Vegetation Model simulations. The importance of VPD increased with higher temperatures and more severe and prolonged droughts. This pattern reflects VPD’s critical role in regulating stomatal conductance and plant hydraulic …
